18 January 2019 NEWSLETTER ISSUE 17 www.cncs.school Messages from the Headteacher Dear Parents/Carers UCAS Applications - Tuesday was the final day for Year 13 students to submit applications for university places in September. Once again students will be moving on to many varied courses around the country on the final stages of preparation for their future career choices. This year we have students who have applied to study Civil Engineering, Maths, English, Medicine, Physics, Law, Photography, Musical Theatre, Politics and International Relations. A particular well done to Agnieszka Niewiadomska and Ryley Bucknall who have both been offered places at Cambridge University in September. Agnieszka has chosen to study Computer Science and Ryley will be studying Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic. Well done to all students. Tamworth Road Gate - We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure of the Tamworth Road gate over the past week. Work is currently being completed to enhance the security of our site and we will be reviewing the opening and closing times of all our gates to continue to ensure that our site is as safe as possible. We will inform parents once these improvements and timings have been finalised. Access to and from the school via the Tamworth Road will be available as normal on Monday. Year 10 Parents’ Evening - We look forward to seeing all Year 10 parents and students at parents’ evening on Thursday 31 January, 4.30-7.15pm. Subject staff and the tutor team will be on hand to discuss targets and the progress being make on your son/daughter’s individual courses. Parents can book appointments using our online booking system. It is really important that parents and students are on time and keep to their 5 minute appointment time. If parents have any problems booking an appointment, please phone or email the school for support. Year 11 Parents’ Evening - Many thanks to all the parents and students who attended Year 11 Parents’ Evening last night. Lots of information was given to parents and students about the progress of our students in the run up to their GCSE exams in the summer. There are lots of interventions and after school sessions offered to Year 11 in order to help them prepare for the summer exams and it is essential that students act upon the advice and support offered. Year 8 Options Evening Advance Notice - Year 8 Options Evening takes place on Thursday 14 February at 6.00pm. The expectation is that everyone should attend as this is a vital time for your son/daughter as they make crucial decisions about their future. The evening will provide information needed to help support students in making informed decisions about which courses and pathways to follow. We look forward to seeing you all on the night. Adverse Weather Procedures - Now the wintry weather is upon us, I would like to remind parents and students of the procedure should extreme weather conditions force the school to close. Parents will receive notification by text message and also a notice will be posted on the school website. Please do not block the school switchboard with calls to enquire if school is open. Parents are asked to ensure that during the cold weather their son/daughter has a warm jacket or coat to wear to school that is plain black or navy blue and sensible footwear.
