VALENTINE’S DAY PARTIES
Our Valentine’s Day Parties will be Friday, February 14. The time and duration will
be left up to each individual teacher. If you are interested in volunteering in a class-
room, please contact your student’s teacher.
Students are allowed to bring in treat bags or candies attached to Valentine cards.
However, due to the number of students with food allergies, no food or drinks will
be allowed to be brought in by parents for our Fall, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day
parties. Thank you for helping us keep all Smith Fine Arts Academy students safe!
KIDS HEART CHALLENGE
Kids Heart Challenge is a community service learning
program of the American Heart Association.
It teaches kids:
the importance of developing heart-healthy habits;
that being physically active can be fun;
that raising funds to support cardiovascular research and education helps save
lives in their community and across the country.
Envelopes have been sent home for the Kids Heart Challenge. Students registering
online will receive a free wristband. Students will be participating in the Kids Heart
Challenge during their PE class on February 14, and the money collected will be due
that day. Students should check in with Mrs. Cheesman as they collect donations in
In the case of inclement weather, every effort will be made to have a decision by 5:30 AM and communi-cated to you and your family in the following ways:
1. Staff/parents will be notified through an all-call using School Messenger. Telephone num-bers are generated from our Skyward database.
2. Communication will be added to the district’s website and social media accounts.
3. Communication will be sent to the following radio and TV stations: WCBK, WISH-8, WRTV-6, WTHR-13, and FOX-59.
Early Dismissal
As weather conditions in our area
can change quickly, an early dismis-
sal may be necessary. We will
make a decision concerning dismis-
sal as early as possible, call parents
through School Messenger, and
communicate information through
our website, social media, and local
media.
We encourage you as a family to
develop a weather plan. For exam-
ple, if parents or guardians work,
where should your child go if there
is an early dismissal or a two-hour
delay? Please be mindful that
weather prediction is just that, a
prediction. We will drive roads, use
science, and apply common sense
before making any decisions.

perature of 100 degrees or higher,

for 24 hours without medication to
return to school. They must also be
vomiting and diarrhea free for 24

CHARACTER LIFELINE
Smith Fine Arts Academy promotes positive character building by high-lighting Character Lifelines each month. January’s Character Lifeline was Effort and Accountabil-ity. Students have been learning about these lifelines by working hard and showing reliability by getting assignments completed and turned in on time. During the month of January, students chosen for showing this characteristic are: Griffin Higgins, Maverick Cooper, Jayla Riffel, Charlie Hansen, Keaton Coffman, Violet Forler, Ameila Guy, Aubrey Miller, Hannah Martin, Max Foley, Preston Santiago, Billy Mar-tin, Hudson Sparks, Blane O’Neal, Hayden Albertson, Makenzie Belch-er, Hayley Stephenson, and Evie Scott.
Congratulations to all students showing accountability this month!

my for the purpose of providing
students with extra support in
reading/language arts. This extra
support is available for all students
at Smith Fine Arts Academy. Class-
room teachers, Title I teachers, and
instructional aides will provide as-
sistance in reading/language arts
and math through small-group and

dren demonstrate need for sup-
port. Please contact your child’s

MBF CHILD SAFETY
MATTERS PROGRAM
This year your child’s school will be using the MBF Child Safety Matters program. The goal of the program is to help keep your child safe.
The program empowers children to spot and respond to bullying, cyber-bullying, child abuse, and digital dan-gers. Most importantly, it teaches that adults are responsible for chil-dren’s safety. Children perform better in school and enjoy healthier, happier, and safer lives. You can learn more about the Program at www.mbfpreventioneducation.org. You can also download the “Child Safety Matters” app at no cost from the App Store or Google Play. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school's counse-lor or family service coordinator.
Smith’s Child Safety Matters program will take place during school on Feb. 18th.

THE VARIETY SHOW
Friday, March 20th at 1:45
What kinds of acts? LOTS of DIFFER-ENT acts!! What makes an act REALLY good? Costumes, movement, music, add MORE to the act than just one thing!! Movement? Change directions, add props, use different hands, changing levels, surprising the audience! Two minute limit to every act (or less time) - time yourself when you practice. When do I try out? During Fine Arts Friday, during school on Feb. 21 & 28! Where do I try out? On the STAGE!! With the microphones, lights, etc. It’s a great time to see what it’s really go-ing to be like for the show. Who do I try out in front of? The Fine Arts Teachers.
IMPORTANT DATES: February 21 & 28 - TRYOUTS during Fine Arts Friday specials
March 13 (Fine Arts Friday) - Dress Rehearsal
