BOOK SALE & LIBRARY YARD
SALE
Friends held their annual Book Sale
and Library Yard Sale on Saturday,
June 28th. It was a busy day with
many bargains to be had. It is also
a fun time to reconnect as we al-
ways see lots of people we know
walking Main Street in the village.
Please continue to drop off unwant-
ed books at the library for next
year’s sale as well as for use in our
Book Nooks.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Our annual Ice Cream Social was
held in conjunction with the Cas-
tleton Women’s Club Colonial Day on August 16th. Robert
Wuagneux, one of Castleton Col-

Our new treasurer, Elizabeth MacKay, is completing the required paperwork for the federal gov-ernment to register the Friends of the Castleton Free Library as a 501c3 nonprofit organization. This documentation will make it easier on the organization when our books are annually audited, and for all of us come tax time.
Book Nooks
For those who frequented Crystal Beach
this summer, we’re sure you noticed the
arrival of our first Book Nook, located
in front of the service building. It was a
popular site as Normandie Keller and Sue
Day, who restocked the nook twice-
weekly, can attest. A second Book Nook
has been installed at the Castleton Fam-
ily Health Center.
The Little Library Book Nooks are the
result of a community partnership with
the Library Friends, Castleton College
students, and the crew at Forty-seven
Main Street.
Special thanks to the Castleton College
art department for the wonderful job the first-year art students did in decorating both
Book Nooks, and to Castleton College Librari-
an,Charlotte Gerstein and art Professor, Oliver
Schemm who facilitated and supervised the col-
laboration. Thanks also to Anne Ruby from the
CFHC, Chris Beebe from Crystal Beach, Joe
Mark and Bob Grace for installing the first Book
Nook and to Nancy Mark and Nancy Goodale for
overseeing the whole project.
Everyone is invited to choose a free book and
pass it on to others and to donate books to the
library for the Book Nooks.

Exciting things are happening with this very active group. In October
the group discussed Gertrude Bell: Queen of the Desert, Shaper of Na-
tions by Georgina Howell. In November they will be reading a play at
a member’s home with potluck dinner included. The December book is
Schultz and Peanuts: A biography, by David Michaelis. January 2015
brings the Annual Book Club party. Please watch for additional an-
nouncements and consider joining this fun group.

YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK
A portion of your donations and membership dues has been used recently in these important
ways:
For those who don’t have the library hours memorized, a new open banner will be flying by the
front door shortly. Sturdy aluminum brackets have been purchased as well as a new pole and
banner. A second bracket will hold the American flag.
The planters, built by the crew of 47 Main Street, arrived in early July and were placed at the
base of the stairs out front. They were filled with bright
seasonal flowers that bloomed until frost. The boxes will
soon be filled with evergreen boughs and other decorations
for the winter.
Looking ahead toward spring, a new picnic table, constructed
of recycled plastic for durability, will grace the front lawn.
And finally, plans are being made to redo the front walk.
If you have an idea for a project you would like the Friends
Steering Committee to consider, please call Martha Molnar
at 468-5125.
