Value of the Fortnight

Dianne Wright, Campus Principal

This week I have witnessed many students and staff being kind to one another. All classes are discussing ways that we can demonstrate kindness to one another. I look forward to hearing more about what our students and staff are discussing, and doing, over the next few weeks. Recently I visited several schools in Papua New Guinea. Many of these schools had no electricity. So there were no interactive whiteboards, air conditioners, computers, iPads or refrigerators. Classrooms had no floor coverings and some had no desks or chairs. I spoke to the children and staff and asked them what I could do to help the children learn easier. One teacher, Mr Yaron Tobivau, asked for me to send some pens, pencils, rulers, sharpeners, erasers, reading books and exercise books.

You can join me in showing kindness to the Papuan New Guinean children and staff at Kaibola Primary

School, by bring some of these items to Emerson and I will send them to Papua New Guinea.

I have taken some photographs of the classrooms for you to see just how lucky we are at Emerson

School. Please bring items (pens, pencils, rulers, sharpeners, erasers, reading and exercise books) to the

General Office on your Campus.

The students have been studying the artist Pablo Picasso in Art.

The Spanish artist invented “Cubism”, a movement that shaped the direction of modern

art. Students drew their self-portraits, including both the front and side view of the face, as

Picasso did. They then added a geometric background.

Students used oil pastels to colour their work.
