Fundamental Apostolic Doctrine
The basic and fundamental doc-
trine of Shield of Faith Christian
Center shall be the Bible stand-
ard of full salvation which is re-
pentance baptism in water by
immersion in the name of the
Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and the
baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of
speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the
utterance
We shall endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit until we all come into the unity of the faith at the same time admonishing all brethren that they shall not contend for their different views to the disunity of the body
About the BiblemdashThe Bible is the infallible Word
of God and the authority for salvation and Chris-
tian living (See II Timothy 315-17)
About GodmdashThere is one God who has revealed
Himself as our Father in His Son Jesus Christ and
as the Holy Spirit Jesus Christ is God manifested
in flesh He is both God and man (See Deuterono-
my 64 Ephesians 44-6 Colossians 29 I Timo-
thy 316)
About Sin and SalvationmdashEveryone has sinned
and needs salvation Salvation comes by grace
through faith based on the atoning sacrifice of Je-
sus Christ (See Romans 323-25 623 Ephesians
28-9)
About the GospelmdashThe saving gospel is the good
news that Jesus died for our sins was buried and
rose again We obey the gospel (II Thessalonians
18 I Peter 417) by repentance (death to sin)
water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ
(burial) and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit
(resurrection) (See I Corinthians 151-4 Acts 24
37-39 Romans 63-4)
About Christian LivingmdashAs Christians we are to
love God and others We should live a holy life in-
wardly and outwardly and worship God joyfully
The supernatural gifts of the Spirit including
healing are for the church today (See Mark 1228
-31 II Corinthians 71 Hebrews 1214 I Corinthi-
ans 128-10)
About the FuturemdashJesus Christ is coming again
to catch away His church In the end will be the
final resurrection and the final judgment The
righteous will inherit eternal life and the unright-
eous eternal death (See I Thessalonians 416-17
Revelation 2011-15)

Intercessory Prayer By Elder Maurice Landry
Most churchgoing adults believe in interces-
sory prayer and the power of prayer People are
often heard to say ―Irsquom just waiting on my blessings
But our prayers are more than just asking and re-
ceiving Godrsquos blessings Our prayer should be inti-
mate communication with God that includes our ad-
oration confessions thanksgiving and fellowship We
see examples of faithful and powerful prayers
throughout the Bible but letrsquos pause for a minute
and consider the example that First Samuel gives for
intercessory prayer In I Samuel 41-11 the Philistines had at-
tacked Shiloh conquered the Israelites and captured
the Ark For seven months the Ark was moved from
city to city and at each place the Ark was taken the
Philistines were struck with terrible plagues or dis-
eases The Philistines decided to return the Ark by
first taking it to Beth-Shenesh and then sending it
back by cart to Kireath-jearim The men of Israel
fetched the Ark and brought it to the house of
Abinadab It was there 20 years before the people
lamented The Ark remained there for 100 yearsmdash
until Davidrsquos timemdashand then it was moved By the time we reach I Samuel 71 we realize
how desperately Israel needed prayer Israel was in
idolatry that led them away from the Lord Israel had
turned to Ashtaroth and the strange gods of their
neighbors and they were not serving God with all
their hearts Their loyalties were divided Samuel offered Israel ways to prove their loy-
alty to the Lord They must ―put away their strange
gods The phrase ―put away means to destroy com-
pletely rid or turn the opposite direction Israel must
humble itself in full repentance to prepare their
hearts to serve only Him True repentance is a
change of mind and heart It is turning away from
idols (those things that keep our minds off God) and
turning toward God (2 Chronicles 714) God re-
quired their hearts service and worship for Him
only Destroying the idols had to be done first be-
fore Israel was delivered from its enemy the Philis-
tines In I Samuel 75 Samuel gathered Israel at
Mizpeh which means ―watch or watchtower
Mizpeh was five miles north of Jerusalem and the
place where Samuel was appointed to be judge
Samuel said he would pray an intercessory prayer for
Israel He knew that his prayer for Israel
had to be true communication with God
for only God could answer his request I
Samuel 76 says that Samuel ―drew water
and poured it out The action speaks to
Israelrsquos humiliation and sorrow for sin and
the pouring out of
their hearts They were in dis-
tress and needed to repent and
show true remorse The people
had made public confession
―We have sinned against the
Lord The people publicly stat-
ed the seriousness and the truth
of their situation Israel showed their true repent-ance from their contrite hearts and deliverance was
to come Samuel judged them and Israel was par-
doned of their sins God wants His people to come
to Him and He would deliver (Psalm 1066) In I Samuel 77 the Philistines heard of the
gathering of the children of Israel at Mizpeh and be-
gan to prepare for war Fear spread throughout Isra-
el for the Philistines had defeated them in the past
and were still an intimidating enemy Because the
Philistines believed that Israelrsquos gathering was a po-
tential uprising the Philistines began a war with Isra-
el The people of Israel said to Samuel ―Cease
not to cry for us In other words ―Samuel please
donrsquot stop interceding for us Keep going before the
Lord in prayer Israel stayed close to Samuel and
desired his intercessory prayers for them Samuelrsquos
act of intercession with God for Israel included the
offerings of the sacrifice for their sins as well as his
sincere prayers God hears the cries of His people
and He answers their prayers Samuelrsquos intercessory prayer for Israel attests
to the great power of prayer Samuel was a man of
prayer who cried and called on the Lord as the lead-
er for Israel (I Samuel 86 1217 1511) The Bible
has other examples of intercession and requests for
intercession In the New Testament Paul in his let-
ters would request that the saints and brethren pray
for him and his ministry (Romans 1530 I Thessalo-
nians 525) But the ultimate example of intercessory
prayer is our Saviour Jesus Christ In John 1721 Je-
sus prayer for all who believe He prayed on our be-half and no greater intercessory prayer was ever
made Hebrews 725 says Jesus lives to make inter-
cession for us
Jesus prayed on
our behalf No
greater interces-
sor prayer was
ever made
