Volume II Issue 3

This 3rd issue of CCFI's Voice of Victory newsletter will give you the highlights for this year's activities and mission work of the church. The aftermath of typhoon Ondoy's devastation in the Philippines was a big call for us to do our share by sending relief goods and financial aid to our brethren in the hardest hit areas of Metro Manila. Some images of the magnitude of Ondoy's wrath and the relief efforts that our brethren made can be seen in this supplementary version of our newslet-ter. While Ondoy had already left, the rehabilitation of many people and reconstruction of many properties including our church in Marikina will be an on-going task that our church will be deeply involved in. Even in this very tragic situation, it was comforting to see our nation came together and our faith was readily chal-lenged to exercise what the abounding grace of God

means to all of us. In the same way, the opportunity to minister to the elderly people in La Maison de Vessy also gave us a very special first-time experience to share the joy and hope that we have in our Lord Jesus Christ. Our youth and the CCFI Singing Ambassadors made a 30-minute pres-entation of dance and songs to the delight of around 30 elderly people who were lifted in their spirits and stu-por even briefly to see a glimmer of hope in their lives. The subsequent interaction that we have with them during the snacks-and-drinks-get-together was truly heartwarming as many of these people were long-ing to have someone talk to them and listen to their stories. I can't miss to share one funny but touching moment when one of the elders came in at the end of the show and asked why nobody informed her about it and requested that our singers sing one song for her. Our singers readily obliged and she, with a copy of the song in her hand, heartily sang with the group. I easily remember what the Lord said to His disciples, "whatever you did for one of the least of these broth-ers of mine, you did for Me" (Matthew 25:40). What a

fulfilling moment!

This pursuit to increase more and more in the grace and love for the Lord and for other peo-ple will be a continuing commitment that we as a church will be engaging together. As Chris-tians, God has called us to make a difference in the 'world' that He has placed each of us in. Such a call is expedient in light of the greater challenge that Christianity faces because of the "end-time" culture that weighs heavily on mate-rialism, modernism, naturalism, liberalism and even ecumenism. Add to that the voice of secu-lar tolerance that seems to offer a very deceiv-ing element of acceptance to whatever society considers as an acceptable norm albeit contrary to what the Bible teaches. A great divide has now expanded between what God demands His people to embrace and what the world tries to promote. While this can be a daunting challenge, this is nevertheless a great opportu-nity that the Lord has allowed His people to face as His abounding grace and love flow through them that they may be able to stand up for His truth and live and fulfill His call for them to be a 'light and salt,' abounding in Christ's

work for the lost world.

Thank you once again and may God richly bless each of you as you celebrate with us God's

abounding grace.

Remember what It Means to Have the Lord in Your Life Having the Lord in your life means that you have peace and comfort in your heart as you walk down any pathway

your life has to offer. It means you can pray to a caring and compassionate Father who always has the time to listen and who never fails

to understand the hurts and fears that are dwelling in the depths of your soul. Even though all of these blessings are crucial to our day-to-day existence on this earth, they are small compared to

the promise of spending an eternity in His presence. Therefore, what it means to have the Lord in your life is knowing the blessed hope of tomorrow and the glorious

promise of heaven that He has prepared for us! - by Cathy Beddow Keener -

Ondoy (Ketsana) Flooding Saturday, 26 September 2009

On Saturday, 26 September 2009, storm Ondoy cre-ated devastating flood in Metro Manila and in its neighboring provinces. Almost 300 people perished from the heavy flood and hundreds of thousands of people were displaced. Many houses, schools, streets, cars and many other properties were destroyed. Many CCFI brethren in Manila were also badly affected and some of our members whose families in Manila were

also serious victims of the calamity.

CCFI Geneva Mission ministry immediately responded to the need and sent an initial amount of CHF 1,000 to meet the emergency needs of our brethren. Around 200 packs of relief goods consisting of bags of rice, coffee, milk, sugar, canned goods, noodles, can-dles, charcoal, purified drinking water and rubber boots were quickly distributed to the victims of the

typhoon.

Additional amount of CHF 1,000 in financial aid was also extended to affected CCFI churches and pastors namely Pastor Danny Casuga (Marikina), Pastor Vidal (Antipolo) and Pastor Richard Dizon (Caloocan), Bishop Rex Reyes (Tatay, Rizal) and Bishop Pete Ben-dana (Sta Rosa, Laguna) to help them in the initial re-

pair of their badly damaged churches and homes. On top of this, 2 boxes of used clothing and shoes that were sent by CCFI Geneva were also distributed to

the affected CCFI churches in Metro Manila.

Pastor Jojo Aguas of CCFI Caloocan spearheaded the relief efforts which took them to Marikina, Antipolo, Paco Manila, Taytay Rizal, Cainta Rizal, Sta. Rosa La-

guna, Caloocan City and Novaliches.

CCFI Geneva was also able to send 10 more boxes of clothing and shoes to CCFI Philippines for further dis-

tribution to victims of calamities and poor families. On behalf of CCFI Geneva Mission Ministry, we would like to reiterate our big thanks to those who gene-rously contributed financially to help our fellow bre-threns in the Philippines affected by the flood. Special thanks should go to CCFI Caloocan which took charge in the distribution of relief goods locally through the excellent coordination of Bishop Alfred Hermosilla who is currently in Geneva. Special thanks also to Sis-ter Helen of Mabuhay for the free sea cargo shipment of 6 mission boxes to Philippines and to those who prayed and are continuously praying for all the victims of calamities in our country. Many thanks also to Pas-tor Romy and Sis. Judith Matutina, and all CCFI mem-

bers for their generosity and compassion. The most important of all “to God be the glory for all His grace, mercy, love, protection for all

His people on earth, in Jesus Name. Amen.”

For the first time, the CCFI’s visit of the elderly people at “La Maison de Vessy” was realized on a Sunday afternoon of 18 October 2009. Organised and coordinated by the CCFI Mission Ministry, the songs and dance performed by CCFI Choir and Youth have touched the hearts of the elderly people who came to watch the 30-minute presentation. The CCFI members helped in fetching the elders from their rooms and accompanied and escorted them to the concert hall. Though others refused help, majority walked slowly and with difficulty. Some of those who were already weak and disabled were ushered in their wheelchairs. The elders have proven that their age has not affected their ability to appreciate the beautiful songs and dance presented by the group. The atmosphere inside the hall was both exciting and touching. The brief show left many of the elders clamouring for more which led

the administration to request for another similar show in the near future.

At the beginning of the show, a special short message prepared by Bishop Alfred Hermosilla in English was translated into French and delivered by Bro. Philippe Baehler explaining the purpose of CCFI’s visit to them. He emphasized that God’s love and abounding grace are available to them. They are

not alone nor abandoned because God cares for them. The CCFI Mission Ministry would like to thank again the “La Maison de Vessy” administration, Mme. Fabienne Perler who coordinated the CCFI visit, Mme. Rosalinda Gentina who introduced us to the

institution and who assisted and guided us during the visit. Thanks to Pastor Romy and Sis Judith Matutina, Bishop Alfred Hermosilla, Bro. Philippe and Sis. Grace Baehler, CCFI Youth and members who were present to support this important opportunity and

God-given ministry for His people.

He doesn’t promise sunny days; just a rainbow at the end of a storm.

He doesn’t promise silver and gold,

but to provide for your needs.

He doesn’t promise to make your life trouble free,

just to give you the strength to see things through.

He doesn’t promise all the answers,

just that He’ll direct your path.

He doesn’t promise you understanding, but faith that will see you through.

He doesn’t promise freedom from despair;

only joy and peace in believing.

He doesn’t promise that you’ll never fail, just that your strength and hope will be renewed.

He doesn’t promise you’ll have no fears,

but that He is always there.

Most of all, He promises unconditional and and ever lasting love.
