SANDIWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER WELCOME BACK I hope you have had a lovely Easter Break with your families. The teachers are looking forward to the last term of the year with lots of lovely activities planned. They will shortly be putting information about the curriculum for the term on their class pages. WEB SITE You may notice that we have password protected some of the pages on the school website. During the next week, some of the information about the classes will be available to the general public (School Tour) and some areas will have restricted access. We are trying to achieve a balance of sharing lots of images about what the children do in school with maintaining their privacy and protecting their identity. It is important that we are able to share some information to everyone as our website is often the first point of contact for new parents and visitors. It is a sad fact that we need to take these precautions, but I would rather be ‘safe than sorry’. You will shortly receive a text with a password to access areas where you can celebrate the work that takes place and read the class blogs. I ask that this password is restricted to family members only. We will change this on a regular basis and keep you updated as necessary. CLUBS Clubs start next week. Please sign up on the school website by logging in as your child and viewing the Wiki. Please contact the school office if you need any help with this. SUN SAFE We have all enjoyed the lovely sunny weather during the holiday and I hope there is more to come in the following weeks. We are increasingly aware of the health issues with too much exposure to the sun in the form of premature damage and skin cancers, but we need to maintain a common- sense approach to enjoy the health benefits that being in the sun can give us, both physically and emotionally. I would like to share with you the precautions that we will take during the summer weather and I ask that you can support us. • Please apply sun cream (SPF 15 or more is recommended) before children come to school. • You may send sun cream into school (named) that the children can apply themselves during the day. • We will provide the children with regular ‘sun breaks’ if they are outside (during PE lessons, for example) • We will talk to the children about the health risks and benefits of sun exposure • Children may wear sun hats/caps and sun glasses for when they are outside. • We are able to sell baseball caps/legionnaire caps that have the school logo on - these will be available from the school office for just £4. These are machine washable and look great! • If your child is fair skinned, has fair or ginger hair, they are at greater risk of sun burn. Please speak to class teachers if you have any concerns over exposure to the sun. • Please make sure that all children have a clean water bottle (named) in school everyday and that you encourage them to drink from it. We will make sure that these bottles are freely available to the children and that they can top them up during the school day. Further information can be found at: http:// www.sunsmart.org.uk/schools/schools-and-sun- protection The ‘Sun Safety’ Policy will shortly be available on the school website.
