Tell Them From Me Survey This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted over Term 3 and early Term 4. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/j3czg

DSM News

WOW! Half way through Term 3 and almost at the end of winter. Crazy how this year has disappeared so quickly. Most of the posting orders have been issued and thank you to the families who have notified us of their next adventure. If you have received a posting order and we do not know, can you please drop us a line to inform us. If you are staying in area, however, moving positions and you will be a Recruit Instructor (RI) next year, again, please let me know. As the RI’s are absent from home for large amounts of time, extra support can be given to your child/ren in these times, however, for this to happen I need to be notified of when the RI is raising the platoon, so please drop me an email or call, to let me know. In Term 4 I will begin the moving groups by classes for all the children who will be leaving our beautiful school for new and exciting adventures in new places. These groups run over 4 weeks and all the children who attend enjoy them thoroughly. If you DO NOT wish for your children to participate, please give me a call. Also in Term 4, I will be holding the Moving Up groups for all of your students in year 6 moving up into High School in 2021. This group runs also runs for 4 weeks. Again, if you DO NOT wish for your child to participate, please give me a call. DCO will be holding their next Coffee connections at the RSL Club on the 28th Aug from 10:00 to 12:00. If you have some time up your sleeve, it is a great way to be connected with our lovely FLO Helen Marshall and find out what is happening in our community. As always, if you would like to attend, you must RSVP through Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.com.au Remember now that postings are upon us, jump onto the DCO website as they have amazing information on all matters pertaining to moving. www.defence.gov.au/dco If you need further assistance the Defence Family Helpline is also a great resource. They are available 24/7 on 1800 624 608. Rachel Dolan DSM

Defence Families Survey As the first round of posting authorities have been released, most of you will now know where your new location will be in 2021. To help me in supporting all our students, and to begin developing appropriate programs specifically for children in defence families, it would be very helpful if parents could complete the form below and return it to the front office. Once you know your Toll removal dates and the date of the last day of school for your child/ren, please inform the school, so I can arrange the children’s books, reports and and present their farewell certificates. This information will be kept confidential and only shared with appropriate staff. Thank you for participating, Rachel Dolan DSM. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Student’s name _____________________________________________________ Parent’s name/s _____________________________________________________ We have received a posting order. National Science Week– STEM Afternoon

On Friday, each class participated in STEM Activities for National Science Week. Mr Holloway’s class made boats using foil, tape, paper and straws. They had to design and make

a boat that could float, stand wind and weight. It was lovely to hear the children cheering each other on as their boats worked.

COVID-19 Updated Guidelines for Schools In line with the updated guidelines from NSW Department of Education, Kapooka Public School are implementing a number of tightened measures as of 19.08.2020. Schools will make arrangements for students who present as unwell or have flu like symptoms to be sent home. NSW Health have requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu-like symptoms, to arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics. Activities on hold for Term 3 The following events will be reconsidered in Term 3. For now, these events must remain on hold. • Kindergarten orientation • Year 7 orientation has been delayed until Term 4 • School camps • Excursions (other than field trips explained above) • Interstate excursions • Parent and carer attendance at assemblies and other school events • Parent and carer volunteers – e.g. parent reading helpers (note: canteen and uniform shop volunteers are permitted) • School-based activities that involve large gathering of adults. These include parent/community gatherings such as parent functions, working bees, fundraisers, school BBQs, large parent information evenings, and large on-site cultural events • Interschool sport, drama, debating and other events that are not within the local community or zone including gala days and regional sporting carnivals.
