La FioritaGaetano Pesce, 2010
It ‘a long time since I insist on asserting, and try to convince my colleagues that the time of abstract forms of objects and buildings is now the past and those who still communicate with these resources are likely to be regarded as a nostalgic or an outmoded. In my opinion, I continue to express myself with works that are carriers of images, figures and signs capable of evoking visions suitable for even the most “simple” of their users.Abstract, we’ve had enough and that cost us the loss or the risk of loosing our identity, our “difference” and so for the spaces we inhabit and for urban places, with a possible flattening view of the world. With this background I present one of the latest creations I m ade for Meritalia. This is a sofa dedicated to “spring” it continues the work on four seasons that I started last year with the padded seat “La Montanara” which celebrates the winter. To evoke and honour the generous season of “blooms”, its gaiety, its freshness, the positive attitude, the joyous atmosphere, the kindness is the intent of this new creation.Broadly speaking, this is a “green area” where, with the advance of the season, scattered flowers appear of various kinds, colour, size and shape. In other words, on a session created with a special fabric that recalls a grass, users will have the opportunity to dispose large-flowered cushions in accordance with their needs of comfort and taste.I’m sure that “La Fiorita” will be able to arouse interest and success which had the other works proposed with Meritalia before.

Every company operating in the furniture’s, home objects’, office and lighting’s field should invest part of its resources in finding new expressive languages, new techniques and processes and use of new materials. In science, medicine, transportation, space exploration, etc. these are common occurrences, knowing that there is no future without the constant progress of ideas, goods, and the achievements already reached. With Meritalia this year I showcase the conclusion of a research started in 1996 with a seat called “Kim” that, since then, is part of the collection Aiber in Miami. This experimental series of seats is originated from the continuous extrusion of a silicone curb randomly disposed on a mould until the person who applies it considers satisfactory the form reached. This process, of course, gives rise to unique pieces which, for the way of their execution, are unrepeatable. In reason for the strength of silicone to the elements, this series “Senza Fine” can be placed both in internal and external spaces and from this latter ability, comes the idea to expose these “pieces” on the sidewalks of Via Durini in front of the showroom Meritalia.See you then around there during the days of the next Salone del Mobile; it will be a pleasure hearing from you about this other new work for Meritalia.

“When I finally had the chance to work on an Interior design project , it seemed only natural to me to be inspired from where I came from: the world of engines.Indeed I took the occasion to show everyone that poetry could also lie and be found beneath and amongst mechanical pieces and parts.I couldn’t avoid thinking of all those men , both from yesterday and from today, who spend hours, passionately, on the engines of their own vehicles, transforming their garage into what looks like a car and bikes ‘s store. Those kids happen to hold in their hands pieces whose use may not seem very clear or realistic at glance, but which are bewitching because of their “technological beauty ”.What I am talking about is that brutal and yet fascinating aesthetics, which states that even a bolt can be as sophisticated and rich as a piece of jewellery. It is exactly because of that hidden refinement that I decided to transform those parts into design objects, whose value could increase with time …just like a vintage car.”“This micro collection wouldn’t be born without Gaetano Pesce’s friendship. I met Gaetano for the first time in 2005, during the opening of Fiat Café at Triennale. Davide Rampello introduced us and it’s been empathy right away. We saw each other only four years later, in occasion of a Frank Gerhy’s commemorative lunch at Triennale.I was feeling a “newbie” sitting among so many geniuses of architecture and design’s world. And yet Gaetano wanted to resume our conversation. In all the chatting we talked about creativity and we discovered that, after all, our worlds were connected. Gaetano, generously and enthusiastically as usual, wanted me to meet the Meroni’s, whom he was cooperating with since many years; he praised their creative work, their beautiful industrial philosophy and their being so open minded about innovation. He was not wrong. When, with him, I met them and I had the chance to spend some time in their company, I had the feeling to be part of a whole great family. I felt happy and surrounded by energy and professionalism, soaked in the will of searching new paths and taking risks but more than everything I felt proud that one like me, new in this field, that came from automotive sector with my fetish materials and my crew, was being listened to. Feeling that Gaetano Pesce was passing the baton to me was something that I never even thought I could find. ”

Lapo Elkann, Aprile 2010

Modern lifestyles are growing more and more differently and people would like to have a space where it’s possible to live freely only on the basis of one’s own taste. In this era, in which it is possible to watch a movie in our own house, time spent sitting on a couch is much longer. Therefore it must keep in great consideration the fact that, if we sit for more than two hours in the same place, a body needs to move in comfort and in a free manner. In this sofa, with a variable inclination’s headrest, it was kept in mind, in designing elements, also the possibility to watch a movie at one’s own convenience.Legs were thought to be made in a shape that doesn’t damage floor or rug. It was took under consideration the ab ovo function of the sofa, which was conceived with a very simple design.

Scheda tecnica:Struttura in acciaio interamente inglobata in poliuretano flessibile a diverse densità.Molleggio delle seduta con cinghie elastiche pretensione.Schienali con sistema poggiatesta snodabile.
