We are happy to inform you that this quarter, too, had been quite exciting for us. Besides organising a number of science popularisation activities our team at the UCOST also started implementing a crucial national project. The National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) aims to make the quality data swiftly available to the states as well as the countries around the world. The science popularisation activities held this quarter scientific temper among children these colourful science fairs held at Dehradun, Gauchar and Nainital attracted vast crowds of students and science enthusiasts. held in DehradunIt minds with new ideas. About 69 meritorious students from Kumaon and Dehradun region participated in the camp. UCOST in Dehradun. People across the state have now access to clean drinking water, thanks to this state of the art laboratory. A water quality map of the state figure out science and technology interventions required to be taken to keep a precious resource like water unpolluted. November 22. Various basic issues relating to the state
were discussed at the workshop. On the occasion the

National Seminar on Scope of Higher education in Uttarakhand
The prestigious Nobel Prize which is bestowed each year is named after wealthy Swedish industrialist and inventor of dynamite Alfred Nobel. It was established in 1895 in deference to his will. The worth of each Nobel Prize is £690,000 and the prizes are always handed out on December 10 the day Nobel died in 1896. The first Nobel Prize was awarded in 1901. The prizes were originally given in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. The Nobel Prize for economics was created in 1968. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, Norway, while the other prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden. will also help figure out the thrust areas where science and
technology (S&T) interventions are urgently needed.
Accomplishments:
-------At the water testing lab more than 300 water samples
of various sources are tested on 26 quality parameters as
per the Bureu of Indian Standards (BIS).
-----Water testing is carried out up to the part per million
(PPM) and part per billion (PPB) levels by atomic absorption
spectrophotometer.
---Completion of water quality map of Uttarakhand, which
is the first of its kind in the country.
Training programmes based on the water quality map being
held in the state to sensitise the masses about the
sensitivity of the issue.

six days training camp held at UPES Dehradun from 26/

Intellectual Property Rights viz. Definition of IPR, requirement of
IPR, patentable subject matter, industrial applicability of IPR its
applicability infringement and fee.
Health campaign launched to find treatment of acute pancreatitis
n what may pave the way for a cure of acute pancreatitis Padma Shree Vaidya Balendu, a Dehradun based practitioner of Ayurveda, and UCOST have joined hands to find Ayurvedic

A number of experts attended the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Harish Rawat said Ayurveda begins where Allopathy ends. He stated that commercial farming of the medicinal plants would help Uttarakhand emerge as a hub of Ayurveda while describing in detail the various initiatives taken by the state government in that connection. A book by Vaidya Balendu on the treatment of pancreatitis was also released on the occasion.
