Technology is the non-linear tool available to humanity which can affect fundamental changes in the ground rules of economic competitiveness. National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra being one of the premier institutions, contributes considerably to the technical man power necessities of the country's expanding economy. The Institute plays a pivotal role in reinforcing the bright future of the students and facilitating them in seeking new vistas. National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra has built for itself a reputation for delivering quality professional education in the country. It stands tall amongst the technical institutions of higher learning.

and pleasure to welcome the Chief Guest, Chairperson BoG, esteemed guests and degree recipients.

My heartiest congratulations to our youngest alumni who, I believe, have not just earned a degree, but have groomed themselves as the well-rounded personalities.

This Convocation is associated with a special distinction that comes from its Hon'ble Chief guest, Shri Pawan Munjal, Chairman, Managing Director & CEO of the world's largest two wheeler manufacturing company- Hero MotoCorp Ltd- who the Institute takes pride in as its illustrious alumnus.

The Institute constantly strives to enhance its contribution by generating skilful professionals not only to serve the nation but also across the globe. The Institute lays focussed emphasis on creating good academic ambience, enhancing innovation & research and industry connect; and providing state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities.

The process of NBA accreditation initiated in year 2017 is successfully completed and the institute got accreditation status for 06 UG programmes of Mechanical engineering, Civil engineering, Electrical engineering, Electronics and Communications engineering, Computer engineering and Information Technology. The B. Tech Electronics and Communications engineering Programme has been accredited for 06 years while the other programmes have been provisionally accredited for 03 years. In addition the accreditation for 14 PG programmes is in progress.

NBA Accreditation

NIRF ranking The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable

thMinister of Human Resource Development on 29 September 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover teaching, learning and resources, Research and professional practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception. NIT Kurukshetra

thparticipated in NIRF since its inception. In NIRF-2015, it got 48 rank, in NIRF-2016, the same was 60, and in latest

rdNIRF-2017 the ranking was improved to 43 rank.

The induction program was organized in the Institute for the B. Tech. batch of

th2018-19 during 25 July to 10th August 2018 with the objectives of helping new students to adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, inculcating in them the ethos and culture of the institution, helping them build bonds with other students and faculty members.

As part of the induction program, the incumbents lear ned about the institutional policies, processes, practices, culture and values, and their mentor-mentee groups. In addition, different activities were organized

such as mentoring & universal human values; familiarization with institute; literary activity; lectures & workshops by eminent people including distinguished alumni; visits to local areas; extra-curricular activities in the institute; feedback and report on the program etc. Some of the eminent speakers who interacted with the students during the Program included the distinguished alumni: Shri Vivek Attre (1984-88); Prof Gopalakrishan Iyer (1986-90), Shri Omesh Handa (1991-95); Shri Shatrunjay Rawat (1988-92), Ms. Madhu Sharma, Motivational Speaker and many other eminent people including Dr. Satyendra Tiwari, CMO, Naturopathy Hospital, Gurukul Kurukshetra. The

st Induction Program culminated in a Valedictory function and Talent show on the last day wherein the B. Tech. 1 year students of 2018-19 batch showcased their incredible talents through various performances on stage. The valedictory function was graced by various functionaries, faculty, staff, and students of the Institute, which was presided over by the Director. The Induction Program received a very positive feedback from the students as well as their parents. This Program, a first of its kind, was organized successfully under the overall coordination of the office of Dean (Students' Welfare).

Research FellowshipsIn addition to existing fellowships, 65 full time research scholars have been provided Institute scholarship. Further approval from the competent authority has been obtained to admit 64 full time research scholars every year. 37 students have been admitted as full time research scholars with full scholarship in odd semester of academic session 2018-2019.

Infrastructural Development

Institute has taken various initiatives to improve the infrastructure development of the campus. In addition to the maintenance and upgradation of the buildings and other infrastructures, a 300 seater multi-purpose boys hostel including 100 suits for foreign students, research scholars and married PG Students (multi-storeyed framed structure) (Ground floor +5) is constructed at NIT, Kurukshetra. The total plinth area of the building is 15,675 sqm and the cost ~50.66 Crores. A 'Sewage Treatment Plant' with capacity 01 million litres per day. The plant spread in 3706 sqm use Moving Bed Bio-reactor (MBBR) technology and well equipped with In-house Laboratory Testing Facility for monitoring the efficiency of plant. The cost of the plant is 1.674 crores. SOLAR GEYSERS (198 units) are operational in Boys hostels 01-09 and Alknanda & Bhagirathi Girls hostels which costs Rs. 1.77 crores. To facilitate students Air conditioners (120 units) of 1.5 ton capacity were installed in various lecture halls in various Departments as well as in examination halls.

Research & Consultancy Cell Research and Consultancy Cell has formed in the Institute to facilitate the smooth conduct, structured flow of the functions and activities related to sponsored research projects and consultancy services. The Research and Consultancy Cell will commence its functions according to the pertaining set of Rules and Regulations of sponsored research projects and consultancy services. Institute has prepared comprehensive separate sets of rules and regulations for Consultancy services as well as for Sponsored projects. In addition to these, a guidelines for utilization of the contingency grant for full time Ph.D. scholars in the Institute has also been prepared.

Industry-AcademiaCollaboration

To promote the interaction between teaching fraternity of the NIT Kurukshetra with outside world including leading Industries and academia in mutually beneficial areas and to provide a formal basis for initiating interaction various Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) were signed. This year total five MoUs were signed with Renewable Energy Department, Haryana /HAREDA, HDFC Bank Mumbai, AEON Learning PVT. LTD. Bangalore, Conserve Infotech Private Limited, Rajasthan and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd and Bharat Bharati Shiksha Samiti.

Industry Cell is a non-profit student run organization of NIT Kurukshetra. The mission of Industry Cell is to encourage and refine the entrepreneurial and product development skills of students like idea generation, opportunity evaluation, business modelling, cash flow, marketing, intellectual property rights and so on. Industry cell has organised Start-Up week (April 2-8, 2018) and Guest lecture delivered by Mr. Avinash Kumar Gupta, CEO of Sealed Energy Systems, Ambala. In addition to that a team of eight students have visited IIT Roorkee for Google Start-Up Weekend, During April 2-8, 2018. Industry Cell has also organised a workshop on Case study and guesstimates followed by a competition on the same.

Industry CellIntellectual Property Rights Cell

The Intellectual Property Cell (IPRC) was established in the institute on July 25, 2017, with prime aim is to disseminate IPR literacy and to equip the faculty members of the institute with the knowledge of the nature, importance, relevance and role of various IPRs. A sum of 17 patents has been filled till October 2018 and 11 patents were granted. Since its inception, IPR cell has taken various initiatives to facilitate faculty members and students of the Institute for Patent to the filling. The IPR cell of the Institute organized a One-day

thworkshop on 'IPR Awareness' on 16 March 2018. The workshop was by Haryana State Council for Science & Technology Department of Science & Technology, Government of Haryana to organize this workshop. The resource persons for the event were Dr. Ravi Kiran, Professor of Management from Thapar University Patiala, Dr. Vinita Krishna from IIT Delhi and Mr. Sandeep Aggarwal, Patent attorney, New Delhi. The 130 number of participants including faculty members, Ph.D /M.Tech and MBA students of NIT Kurukshetra get benefitted from the workshop. In addition to this event, IPR Cell organized another workshop on 'Searching Drafting and filing process of

ththe Patent' on 29 September 2018. The resource persons Shri Avinash Kumar, Scientist 'F', Additional Director, DRDO and Dr. Nidhi Sandal, Scientist 'E', Additional Director, DRDO deliberated and discussed various issues regarding searching, prior art information, drafting and filing process of the Patent. The participants discussed numerous issues regarding searching and filing the Patent.

Under 'Unnat Bharat Abhiyan', the NIT, Kurukshetra has adopted three villages namely Sunehari, Jyotisar and Alampur in consultation with district administration Kurukshetra. In recent past various awareness drives have been executed in these villages by various faculty members from different departments. In 2018, major activities including awareness program on Financial literacy for promotion to digital economy, awareness program on electrical energy conservation and awareness drive and Swachata abhiyaan & Tree plantation has been conducted in three villages.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

Swachhta Abhiyan was organized on September 20, 2018. During the activity cleanliness drive around the sports complex has been conducted. A large number of students have participated in the activities while around footfall of 230 participation was marked. The activities were carried out with the help of the sports section. Students were motivated for cleanliness and to protect our environment. A mass-pledge regarding Swachhta Abhiyan was conducted and later on the cleanliness drive around the sports complex was done.

During the convocation 1277 candidates were awarded degrees in B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA and Ph.D. Out of 1277 total degrees, 46 were awarded in Ph.D, 342 in M.Tech, 36 in MBA, 80 in MCA and 773 in B.Tech. The prestigious “Shyam Sunder Dhingra Award” for overall B.Tech topper was given to Rajan Manocha (Department of Mechanical Engineering). “Best all round student award” was given to Aditya Kompella (Department of Civil Engineering) and Vandana Yadav (Department of Electrical Engineering). “Dr. R.P .Singh Medal” for B.Tech

Winners of Technical paper presentation competition on the theme of Celebrations organized by ELECTRORECK, technical society of Electrical Engineering Department, NIT Kurukshetra, were felicitated by the Director. The ideas such as Super Balloons, Smart dust technology, Electrical Vehicles and IoT, Cyborgs won the prizes. Newsletter of Electrical Engineering Department, prepared by ELECTRORECK, was inaugurated on the occasion.

International Day of Non-ViolenceInstitute has celebrated the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi which is marked as the International Day of Non-Violence. To explore the Gandhiyan values, ideals and the challenges involved in implanting them in society, a national seminar on Gandhian Values in

s t the 21 Century: Contemporary Trends and Challenges has been organised by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences on September 29, 2018. On this occasion Dr. S. D. Sharma, former Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla delivered a keynote lecture. Prof. Sunita Siroha, English department, Kurukshetra University presented plenary talk and urge delegates to implement the teaching propagated by Mahatma Gandhi. Prof. Tejinder Kaur, Director, Center for Diaspora Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala in her Valedictory Address expressed her concern on the necessity of introducing Gandhian principles of ethics for engineering students. As a part of celebration of

was organised on 4 October 2018, featuring performance by Dr. Sudhir Sharma and his team. Director Dr. Satish Kumar graced the event as the Chief Guest alongwith Madam Director, Mrs. Sneh Chaudhary. A short film made by Ministry of External Affairs, GOI, featuring artists from over 124 countries contributing musically in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi through his favourite bhajan 'Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye' was also showcased.

NIT Kurukshetra celebrates International Women's Day (March 08, 2018) with great zest and zeal by holding a seminar entitled, "Role of Women Achievers in Science, Technology and Management in the Sustainable Green Energy Growth in India." The objective of the seminar was to create awareness for women empowerment for establishment of an egalitarian society. Ms. Sophia Dahiya, Joint Controller General of Accounts, Govt. of India was the Chief Guest for the event and Ms. Archana Chaudhary, Executive Officer, Head, Resource Mobilization and Partnership, UNESCO was the Guest of Honour. In her message Ms. Sophia Dahiya on Indian Government's initiatives like the use DBT schemes and other schemes she demonstrated the way rapid changes are at hand to improve and enhance women empowerment. Director NIT Kurukshetra, Padamshri Dr. Satish Kumar emphasized on the need to acknowledge contribution of women from diverse fields in growth and development of a nation. There were three technical sessions where student presented papers and panel discussion on "Narrow Apex of Vertical Triangle for Women Employees at Higher Positions" and the need for "Gender Sensitization at Root Level."

An expert lecture was organised by the Department of Business Administration on the subject of the prime role of NABARD in advocating start-ups to amplify its impact. The lecture was addressed by District Development Manager Mr. R. S. Mor. He gave insights of the ample opportunities and schemes for the betterment of farmers.

was inaugurated by Dr. Satish Kumar Director NIT Kurukshetra. Various renowned experts from Punjab University Patiala, IIT Roorkee, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, attended the conference. Convener of the event was Prof. Rajendra Kumar; while Dr. Vikas Choudhary and and Dr. Neeraj Kaushik was the coordinator and Organizing Secretary, respectively. About 200 participants from all over the country attended this conference. The recommendations of the conference were forwarded to the policy makers.

International workshop on Sustainable Energy, Power and Propulsion

Aimed at moving towards a sustainable future, a novel approach was adopted by the scientific fraternity in the form of an International Workshop on "Sustainable Energy Power and Propulsion" during March 18-22, 2018. The

thinaugural ceremony of the 9 iteration of this workshop took place in the Jubilee hall of the

thInstitute, on the pleasant late evening of 18 March 2018. This event witnessed presence of Padma Bhushan Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog as the Chief Guest along with Dr. S.K. Salwan, Chairman, Armaments Board; Mr. V.K. Raizada, Executive Director, Indian Oil Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex, Panipat; Dr. Manjit Singh, Chairman, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory Chandigarh as the Guests of Honor with the benign presence of Dr. Ashwini. K. Gupta, Professor, University of Maryland, College Park; Dr. Akshai Runchal, President, ACR Inc. and Dr. Abhijit Kushari, Professor, IIT Kanpur and many more experts in the fields of Energy, Power and Propulsion. On this occasion Director, Dr. Satish Kumar stressed on the importance of collaboration of institutes around the globe in the areas of solar, wind and geothermal power and propulsion systems without any barriers and flag shipped several student and faculty exchange programs, training and internship facilities to name a few.

National IT ChallengeThe National IT Challenge Competition for the Youth with Disabilities was organized by Department of Empowerment of persons with Disabilities (DEPWD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The objective of this national event is to help youth with disability to have an opportunity for the access and development of IT utilization ability and to select a group of disabled students to represent INDIA on the International level. Department of Computer Application, NIT Kurukshetra organized this National IT challenge third time. The chief guest for this event was Shree K.V.S. Rao Director, DEPWD. The challenge witnessed a great participation of around 104 students, those participated various technical and creative challenges including E-tool, E-life and E-creative activities.

Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra has won 3position with a cash prize of Rs. 03 lakhs in national level 'ONGC Solar Chulha Challenge'. The prizes were given by Union Petroleum Minister Shri

thDharmendra Pradhan on 24 April 2018 at a function cum exhibition organized by ONGC in New Delhi. The team of students comprising Himanshu Agrawal, Vikrant Kamboj and Abhishek Dhiman and Udit Midha with Dr. Avadhesh Yadav, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering department prepared the design of the equipment. In addition to the cash prize, a research project has also been awarded to carry forward the work further. To promote this national endeavour, ONGC will also provide monetary support to the Institute to manufacture about 1000 units.

Solar Chullha Challenge

A workshop on Yoga and Healthcare was organized on June 2, 2018 in AE lawn by the Anamika Society of NIT Kurukshetra. Internet of Things (IoT) Workshop

Internet of Things(IoT) is a revolutionary technological innovation that has changed the entire way people communicate, work and live. In wake of the humongous impact and scope of this concept, a holistic workshop was conducted in our campus. The instructors from Oracle Workforce Development Program - KVCH conducted a workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) at E202 on September 29-30, 2018. The workshop illustrated the vitality of IoT in our daily lives. The experts in the field delivered a hands-on lecture on a programmable microcontroller called Arduino Uno which included programming it and running an LED using it. The workshop benefitted the students in various ways including help to earn the basics of Internet of Things and its applications; to build own IoT system using NodeMcu-ESP8266; work with DHT sensors to detect humidity and temperature; Understand Arduino Architecture and programming; GPIO Interfacing with LED's etc.

Cyber Security Workshop

A workshop on Cyber Security was conducted by Oracle Workforce Development Program-KVCH. This workshop discusses the basics of hacking to its advanced level. Discussion began from scratch, to ethical hacking and a detailed discussion. Cyber security is the collection of technologies that processes and practices aimed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage or unauthorized access. After building up the basic knowledge of the technical details and getting familiar with the terms, practical sessions began. The practical began with email spoofing, steganography, SQL injection attacks etc. Students across the first, second and third year attended it with the participation of 120 students in total.

National Students' Space Challenge

NSSC (The National Students' Space Challenge) is India's first and largest space fest, conducted and organised by IIT Kharagpur. It provides a platform for space enthusiasts to showcase their talents in a plethora of events. Started by the Space Technology Students Society, NSSC 18 was held from October 05-07, 2018 at IIT Kharagpur campus. With teams like IIT Gandhinagar i n c l u d i n g 2 0 d i f f e r e n t institutions were participated in the event. NIT Kurukshetra team took part in Lift- Off (an ev e n t m o d e l l e d o n t h e concept of water rocket) and space quiz and won the first prize in the Lift-Off event by defeating close to 70 teams. The winning team comprising of Harsh Sharma, Harsh Mittal, Deepika Sangwan and Akshat Redhu. It was a great moment of pride for NIT Kurukshetra as putting such a performance in the first-ever NSSC participation.

Auto Kriti

The SAE Club has been involved in implementing the learnt theoretical ideas to design and develop prototype of automobiles at undergraduate level. Housing within its periphery Team Nitrox & Team Accelerons, which design and fabricate an All-Terrain Vehicle & Formula Style Vehicle respectively, club represents NIT (REC) Kurukshetra at the National and International level engineering platforms in India & United States of America. This year, AUTOKRITI 10.0-An automotive overhauling workshop where participants were acquainted with the entire Toyota Camry Hybrid & Toyota Land Cruiser Engines. Autokriti 10.0 was a 3 days engine overhaul workshop. During October 07-09, 2018, the theories of engine, transmission, brakes, suspension and steering were put forward in an interactive way. The basics of engine have been cleared by inline HONDA CITY engine and then the students were forwarded to level 2 Engine. Autokriti 10.0 had introduced the breath taking Land Cruiser V8 Petrol engine as well

These two ladies are not only India's fastest but only represent Indian riders on the International platforms in Mugello circuit in Italy and Sepang Circuit in Malaysia. Eminent experts like Er. Ajay Godara, Founder and Director ENOVATION LAB, Chandigarh and Er. Manuj Khurana, CEO & Founder of NewMo discussed the latest technological stuff related to Electric Vehicles. Experts from GRINNTECH Er. Rahul Lamba & Er. Sarthak Manocha deliberated about Li-ion Batteries & techno commercial aspects of Electric Vehicles. Prof. P.C. Tewari presided over the Program and also felicitated all the technical experts of Autokriti 10.0 workshop.

Microbus Society

Microbus successfully managed and conducted DrishTI online contest in the Institute organised by Texas Instruments, one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturing companies, on pan-India level. The contest provided the participants a brilliant platform to get their theoretical knowledge in resonance with the practical applicability of the subjects they read. The contest witnessed agile participation from students of all disciplines who were tested on various parameters like simulation of design in software for cost effectiveness and various performance metrics along with concepts related to data processing and micro-controllers.

Microbus was instrumental in conducting workshop on IoT (Internet of things) under the aegis of i3indya in partnership with Radiance, IIT Bombay. IoT is a technology which is fast grooming and includes all day-to-day need appliances connected and controlled by the Internet in which information is sent to the internet cloud and processed. Keeping up pace with new technologies is vital in engineering field, so the workshop was well appreciated by all and also provided the participants a chance to compete in Radiance-2018.

Utkarsh FestA Hindi literary cum cultural fest 'UTKARSH-2018' was organized during September 21-23, 2018 by Anamika Hindi Society in the direction of Dr. Y. Dwivedi, Faculty-in-charge. On this occasion chief guest was honourable Director of the institute and the distinguished guest was social worker and founder of Puran-Murti Educational Society, Dr. Vijay Pal Nain. The theme of the fest was 'Shuny se Vyom'. This event was comprised of 22 events in which 500 students have participated, including participants from 08 different institutions. This event witnessed a footfall of more than 2500 students. This fest includes events Kavi Sammelan, Hindi Competitions comprises of writing, grammar, quizzes etc. During the event, a program named 'Vichar Manch' was organised in which students interact with the Director Dr. Satish Kumar and asked various questions related to advanced research facilities, Student training, personality development etc. The valedictory function of the fest was organized on September 23, 2018, in Jubilee hall of the Institute. Winners of the various competitions were awarded trophy and certificates.

A blood donation camp was organised by Rooh society on September 29, 2018 which aimed at sharing the gift of life and be the reason for someone's smile. The blood donation camp spread awareness about the importance of blood donation among students and encourages them to be a part of the noble cause.

Raktdaan

SHIKSHANGANShiksha Group organized three days annual festival 'Shikshangan-18' under the aegis of Students' Club for Social Action (SCSA) of NIT Kurukshetra. It mainly included various activities from the domains of Academics, Fine Arts, Sports, Music, Dramatics and Dance etc. About 200 students from Shiksha Group, Nivedita Public School and fellow NGO named Chetna participated in various events of 'Shikshangan -18'. This event witnessed various Sport events and cultural events like dancing, singing, acing and poem recital etc. In valedictory function, prizes were distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest. Er. Ravi Sharma, Former CEO Adani Power and Founder & Chairman, Prama Jyoti Foundation, New Delhi. Director Padmashree Dr. Satish Kumar presided over the function. The Shiksha Group, provided scholarships to twenty two needy and poor children for the session 2017-18. Fourteen children got scholarship for academics, three for all round performance and five for excellence in sports and extra-curricular activities in addition to academics.

National Science Day

Department of Physics has celebrated 'National Science Day' on February 28, 2018 to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. On this occasion lectures were organized on Raman life & his scientific contribution, and Indian achievements in nuclear and Space science. The coordinator of the programme Dr. Y. Dwivedi describes the vast scientific legacy and contribution of great Indian science. During the event Science Quiz and debate competitions were organised for students. A science debate was based on 'Role of Science for Nation building' and 'Science: an effective tool for women empowerment.'

During the workshop students were introduced to Multi Touch & Augmented Reality based on Pranav Mistry's six sense device by experts from Infizeal Technologies and trained to make multi touch pad and to convert laptop screen into a touch screen.
