September
The 5th
Malaysian Exhibition on Organic & Natural Products - “Organic Path 2010” was held from 18th – 20th
at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall in Kuala Lumpur. This time we chose ‘Organic Path” for the theme as we
believed that after years of organizing Organic SEARCH and then WATCH, now we are on the Organic PATH along
which the Malaysian organic market ...
Many programmes were organized during this 3 days event. Talks on various topics included skin care,
healthy living, organic farming, health care, free health screening; demonstrations on composting, cooking,
detoxification, eco enzyme making etc.
On the 3rd day, a public forum with two sessions was organized, one in the morning titled “Can Malaysian
Organic Producers Compete with Imports?’ As most ‘organic’ farmers/producers are so caught up with their day to
“You can get seeds over there!” Children’s Activities – “Fishing”

day farming/ marketing, we hope they could foresee the challenge ahead of them and the threat with the
implementation of AFTA (Asian Free Trade Agreement).
The afternoon session addressed the issue of “Organic Food is Better than Conventional Food: Is this a
Myth or True?” The discussion drew much interest from the audience, so much so that some audience got carried
away with the Qi myth …..
Overall, this exhibition also provided a platform for CETDEM’s pool of volunteers to have an opportunity to
share their knowledge and experience by demonstrating how kitchen and garden waste could be recycled into compost
as well as kitchen gardening/farming tips etc.. CETDEM was very thankful for the very dedicated volunteers and
CETDEM members who spent the solid three days running and managing the various activities ~ from sales of
publications on organic farming to health matters, seeds and seedlings, foods and beverages, etc. thus made this
exhibition possible!
Sri Nobel School Eco Trip to Titi Eco Farm Resort
CETDEM OFP organized an eco tour to Titi Eco Farm Resort in Negeri Sembilan for
320 school children aged 7 ~ 11 and 32 teachers from Sri Noble School Kelana Jaya
on 22nd and 23rd.

local herbal plants, vegetables and their health benefits.

October
CETDEM celebrated its 25th
Anniversary with a Fund Raising Organic Slow Food Dinner This dinner was a grand affair, held on 16
th October 2010 on a Saturday night at Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur, in
conjunction with CETDEM’s 25th Anniversary. The dinner concept was Slow Food. Each delicious organic course
was introduced by the chef as the dish was brought to the table and presented to the crowd of over 300 guests. One of
the reasons for choosing the theme ‘Slow Food’ and it was all vegetarian dishes, as we wanted to introduce and share
with our guests - a concept that is not just a matter of sustaining the natural resources, better health and healthy food
preparation. It is the concept of how we can soul search our lifestyle, it is always about choices in order not to affect
adversely the whole food chain, environment, value system. It also helps us to understand and discover the essence of
how food comes to the table and the relationship between man and nature.
The dinner was also an opportunity for CETDEM to raise funds for its ‘Sustainable Development Think Tank’ that
will sustain/deepen the work on a long term basis for sustainable solutions through the marriage of Sustainable

Development and Green Technology. With that we would deepen the work on transportation as well as venture into
addressing water issues that have yet to be adequately recognized and resolved, aside from sustaining our current work
on Energy, Climate Change and Organic Farming.
We thank our all guests and especially those who had come from afar to be with us in celebrating our 25th anniversary.
We are also very grateful to all the donors be it in cash or, and many others who have contributed much to make this
dinner a success.

Terra Madre –World Meeting of Food Community 21st – 25
th Oct (By Mrs. Neo YH)
Every two years, Terra Madre Slow Food International holds a World gathering of food community as well as an
international fair in Turin. of Food Community in Turin, Italy. This year some 6,000 delegates came from 153
countries all over the world including farmers, youths, musician, cooks, academics, NGOs and producers to net
working and sharing knowledge and experiences.
Many seminars, workshops and meetings were held simultaneously on issues of crucial importance to the well-being
of humans and the earth. This year Terra Madre’s empathsis was focused on the indigenous people and youths.
.Note: As we appreciated the invitations extended to our communities the 4th
consecutive year, it was CETDEM OFP
Coordinator’s hope that the Slow Food International President Carlo Patrini would urge all the delegates to bring their own
eating and drinking utensils so as to avoid wastes generated. She was to believe the President who has large followers could
influence and mobilize the mass to truly understand the motto of Slow Food and why TM brings all people from different parts of
the world to attend this symbolic Meeting.
