Welcome! The New York State Association for Computers and Technology in Education (NYSCATE) welcomes you to our first New York CTO Clinic, co-sponsored by the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN). Today you will experience an intimate professional development opportunity featuring award winning CTOs, a national panel of CTOs speaking on their professional and personal advancement in the field and all the exciting work the NYS CTO Chapter is planning in the future. Our clinic opens with a welcome message from Dr. Amy Perry-DelCorvo, CEO/Executive Director of NYSCATE and Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN. The program will then kick off with an

Opening Keynote by Keith Krueger on how human capacity affects the ubiquity and access gaps.

We will then learn the national and statewide perspectives on becoming ready for online assessments. This session will be followed by panel discussions on what superintendent want from a CTO and how to enable Smarter Education Networks by Design (SEND). The day will then conclude with a closing keynote by Ed McKaveney, CETL, on the evolving role of a CTO and how to prepare yourself. This opportunity would not be possible without the support from a great group of vendor sponsors. Be sure to meet with the K-12 technology vendors who will be here at the clinic exhibiting their latest, cutting-edge products and services. We encourage you to share your needs and discuss the challenges you see in your district with our vendor sponsors. They may have just the right product or service to help you plan strategically. We trust you will find this day filled with opportunities to learn and expand your leadership. Again, welcome to the 2014 New York CTO Clinic!

2:20 - 2:30 Break 2:30 - 3:00 Sponsor Presentation: Juniper Networks (Room: North Ballroom) Building Better Mobile Security and BYOD for Schools

School districts are increasingly providing mobile devices or introducing BYOD policies for students and employees. With these expansions, there are significant security risks in unauthorized access or disrupted access to private, personal or sensitive information. In addressing these risks, IT administrators have looked to separate approaches, SSL VPN solutions to secure network connectivity for remote or mobile users, Network Access Control (NAC) solutions to ensure that only authorized users and devices gain network access and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions to deliver centralized management control of mobile devices. Though these individual solutions are effective in their own right, the silo approach leaves school districts with deployment and management complexity which really shouldn’t exist. In this presentation, Juniper Networks will present an integrated approach that configures security intelligently by having SSL VPN and Network Access Control user policies leverage mobile device management (MDM) device-based information and simplifies deployment and management. This integrated approach provides school districts better mobile security and BYOD. Matt Konwiser, Government and Education Champion, Juniper Networks

10x Thinking in Education with Google and Schools Join Google to discuss how schools are transforming their classrooms to increase student engagement and prepare students for their future careers. Carol LaRow , Google Certified Teacher & Trainer

Sponsor Presentation: iBoss Network Security (Room: Carlton B)

Safe Access to Online Tools & Social Media In this session we will discuss how educators are missing teachable moments due to the fact they have technology that is not enabling learning. We will cover the top concerns we are seeing with our educational customers such as the obstacles of managing YouTube and Google in the classroom, social media and BYOD programs. In conclusion, we will then speak to how iboss Network Security addresses these issues. Anthony Bruno, Solutions Ambassador, iBoss Network Security

However, an exam can be given anytime/anywhere. To host a CETL exam, you will need three things: a proctor, computers with internet access and, of course, test takers. You may host an exam with as little as one test taker. The test takers themselves can arrange the test site but must have a proctor approved by CoSN.

Visit cosn.org/certification or contact the certification team at [email protected] to apply for the exam, set up an exam administration, request proctor training, or to order bulk user licenses for CoSN’s Collaborative Learning Site.

CTO Forum Building a Powerful Team for Blended Learning

When: Monday, June 30, 2014, 2:00-5:00

Location: Omni CNN Center Hotel, Atlanta, GA (during ISTE Annual Conference)

Many believe that blended learning is perhaps the most significant opportunity for transforming

learning in schools. Blended learning offers the potential for personalization and the opportunity

to leverage virtual learning with face-to-face support and collaboration. Yet too often, silos in

our districts can keep us from making this digital leap and fully realizing the potential for blended

learning. This highly interactive forum will explore the roles of the district technology leader

(CTO/CIO), the chief academic officer (CAO) and the superintendent in enabling blended

learning. Hear from a panel of key district leaders who are breaking down the silos and

working to realize the power of this innovation. Bring your questions, engage in the conversation

and come away with tips and tools for building a powerful team.
