Production

Production- Digital Filming Celluloid film is used for the majority of films as the image quality of the film was nothing compared to others. As a result of it being cheaper than film, digital filming is now widespread especially amongst indie film makers who have a low budget for making their films. At the moment Digital film is usually used for editing then later changed to film when being released out in the cinemas. The process is quite expensive, time consuming and low quality. Digital video doesn't allow this process and is more resourceful as the footage is shot digitally and can then be edited immediately even during shooting.

C.G.IC.G.I : Computer Generated ImageryC.G.I is often found in Hollywood Blockbusters with high budgets and is a form of computer generated graphics.Raw elements are usually shot in front of a blue/ green screen so the background wanted for that shot can be created using C.G.I and then placed behind.

Production Cont...

Motion CaptureMotion capture is recording actions of actors that are human and then mapping it onto 3D animated digital model of the character.Motion capture can be used for fingers, face and delicate expressions. Motion capture only records the movement of the actor and not his/ her appearance.

Due to the large costs involved in distributing, films with a big budget can distribute to many places, when of the is

majors is paying to distribute a film they send it everywhere because thy have the funding, where as a indie film would

have to be very picky on who the distribute it to.

Distribution Distribution is a long and very expensive

process. The distributors have to pay for someone to package

the film, put it in the van and drive the van to the various cinemas

and in some cases, shipping it.

By taking the actual rolls of film out of the picture, you can save

a great deal of money. Also the film itself can degrade over time and can

get dirty due to finger prints which

will damage the film itself, so when the film runs it will be

dirty

Page 6: New technologies

Distribution Cont...

Digital film is not a physical object

therefore cannot get dirty or degrade over

time. By having the film digitally it can be

shown in many screens in the cinema, under

that one file instead of having to use a roll o

film per screen.

A negative draw back to this is it makes it even

easier for piracy to come about, because a email containing a film

can easily be intercepted and

uploaded.

This is where digital distribution comes into play, instead of spending all hose costs on hiring vehicles and people to deliver your film, you could send it via email instead, via a storage website or a memory stick. This saves a lot of money for the film companies, and for small indie films this gives them more of a budget to

spend on their film. The drawback of this is that it puts the people that used to package and deliver it out of a

job.

Page 7: New technologies

Attack the block had a small budget of £9Mil therefore they could only afford to send it to certain cinemas across the country, appealing to a local and niche audience. However they managed to take it to America, but due to the sang and London accents it did not do so well.

BATMAN TRILOGY

ATACK THE BLOCK

Now for the batman trilogy they have a huge amount of backing and funding, meaning they can distribute it to a whole load of cinemas all across the world, an because they have such a strong marketing campaign they will easily make there money back.

Marketing

IMDB(internet movie data base) – The IMDb started as a hobby project by an

international group of movie fans, essentially

something by movie fans for movie fans. It is a

huge collection of movie information. Which

contains information on upcoming movies

allowing anyone to see it.

Mobile phones – as the years go by we are being introduce to new phones with new technologies and updates. Our phones are now capable of doing all the things our computers does which makes it easier for movies like attack the block and the batman trilogy to market their films. People can now customise their phones with movie applications. Movies can use the applications on our phones to communicate with us about their movies.

Websites – movies can now make their own official websites with packed information and market their products through it because majority of us now have access to the internet nowadays.Attack the block - http://www.attacktheblock.com/ Batman returns - http://www2.warnerbros.com/batmanbegins/index.html The dark knight - http://thedarkknight.warnerbros.com/dvdsite/ The dark knight rises - http://www.thedarkknightrises.com/

IMAX- It has a wide-screen cinematography (The technique of motion picture photography) that produces an image roughly ten times larger than the standard film which is 35 mm.It’s done to project images that have greater sharpness and definition than can be shown in conventional cinemas, usually on a gigantic screen several stories high.

3D- Is a movie with images that have a three dimensional form or appearance. It’s a motion picture that causes an illusion of depth perception. It comes from stereoscopic photography, a regular motion picture camera system is used to record the images from two perspectives (or computer-generated imagery generates the two perspectives in post-production) Special projection hardware and/or eyewear are used to provide the illusion of depth when viewing the film (3D glasses).

DVDDVD is Short for digital versatile disc or digital video disc, a type of optical disk technology similar to the CD-ROM. A DVD holds a minimum of 4.7GB of data, enough for a full-length movie. DVDs are commonly used as a medium for digital representation of movies and other multimedia presentations that combine sound with graphics. One of the best features of DVD drives is that they are backward-compatible with CD-ROMs, meaning they can play old CD-ROMs, CD-I disks, and video CDs, as well as new DVD-ROMs. Newer DVD players can also read CD-R disks.

TV on demand-Video on Demand or Audio and Video on Demand are systems which allow users to select, watch/listen to video or audio content on demand. IPTV technology is often used to bring video on demand to televisions and personal computersTelevision Video on demand systems either stream the content through a set-top box, a computer or other device. allowing viewing in real time, or download it to a device such as a computer, digital video recorder (also called a personal video recorder) or portable media player for viewing at any time.of depth when viewing the film (3D glasses).

Streaming mediaStreaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a streaming provider. With streaming, the client browser or plug-in can start displaying the data before the entire file has been transmittedThe distinction is usually applied to media that are distributed over telecommunications networks, because most other delivery systems are either streaming (e.g., radio, television) or no streaming (e.g., books, video cassettes, audio CDs

4D4-D describes an entertainment presentation system combining 3-D film with physical effects in the theatre, which occur in synchronization with the film. Because the physical effects are expensive to set up, 4-D films are usually presented only at special venues such as theme parks and amusement parks. However, in Korea, some movie theatres also have the ability to present a 4-D film and the film Avatar was one of 10 films that have received the treatment, starting with Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

Some of the effects simulated in 4-D films include rain, wind, strobe lights, and vibration. The use of water sprays and air jets is also common. A 4-D film is not shown in a motion simulator, although some seats in 4-D venues vibrate or may move a few inches during the presentation.of depth when viewing the film (3D glasses).

Blu- rayBlu-ray disk is optical disc storage medium. It was designed to replace the DVD format. Blu-ray discs contain 25 GBThe name Blu-ray Disc refers to the blue laser used to read the disc, which allows information to be stored at a greater density than is possible with the longer-wavelength red laser used for DVDs.The major application of Blu-ray Discs is as a medium for video material such as feature films.

Love filmLove Film is a UK-based provider of home video and video game rental through DVD-by-mail and streaming video on demand in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia. Multiplex A multiplex is a movie theater complex with multiple screens, typically six to ten screens. They are usually housed in a specially designed building. Sometimes, an existing venue undergoes a renovation where the existing auditoriums are split into smaller ones, or more auditoriums are added in an extension or expansion of the building. The largest of these complexes can sit thousands of people and are sometimes referred to as a megaplex.Definitions of what constitutes a multiplex versus a megaplex are related to the number of screens, but often the comparison is arbitrary
