Neptun & Kraus Modelbau have new releases as does Saratoga & Mountford. Check out the Superior availability list. Available again are British CV’s, Japanese CL’s, lots of DD’s and even some World War I’s which I’m sure a lot of you never thought you’d see again. “Never-were” reissues are a sleek Russian BB and CB to keep SOYUZ company, the GRAF ZEPPELIN & the British hybrid LION…and the new TILLMAN IV & the aforementioned SOYUZ are now in production. We have just received huge shipments of GHQ & SeaBattle 1:2400 models. This would be an excellent time to beef up your 1:2400 fleet. In early March, we sent out the first of our customer emails giving you a heads-up on what’s on the horizon. We will be sending these out periodically. If you did not receive this email and would like to receive future ones, send us your email address and we’ll get you on the list…and we promise, we will not “flood” you with them! Have you joined our Facebook page yet? Good idea to do so as we have posted a lot of new photos of the Superior collection of Ron Pegg. Check out other photos of our customers’ work as well. As we enter our 49th year in business, I want to thank you for your orders and your support. Obviously, without you we would not have been around this long. NEW SUPERIOR 1:1200 “NEVER-WERES” Here are the new “Never-were’s” by our esteemed model maker Wayne Smith, announced last issue. They are really spectacular! A143 $37.50 TILLMAN IV, U.S. BB 1916 80,000T, 975’L, 25.2K, 24-16” This is an alternate design from our previous TILLMAN model (A126). Both designs were done at the request of the colorful Senator from SC, Ben “Pitchfork” Tillman. The main battery was particularly unique in that it was made up of four “Six-shooter”, six gun turrets. R101 $35.50 SOVETSKY SOYUZ, Russian BB 1938 59,150T, 889”L, 9-16”, 12-6”, 8-3.9”, 32-37mm This was generally acknowledged as the best of the Russian BB designs. There were 16 planned but only four started and none of them were completed. They would have rivaled the U.S.MONTANA BB and the Japanese BB YAMATO designs. Superior 1:1200 “Never were” reissues And speaking of Russian designs that were never built, we are re-issuing the following. R103 $34.50 PROJECT 24 (Variant XIII), Russian BB, post war 72,950T, 925 ‘L, 9-16”, 16-5” This proposed ship would have been 60% larger than IOWA and 20% larger than MONTANA plus being beamier, slightly faster and with superior protection. This was the last BB designed by any country and would have outclassed any other ship in all other navies. R202 $31.50 STALINGRAD, Russian CB, circa 1950 38,540T, 897”L, 9-12”, 12-5.1”, 24-45mm This beautiful design was another pet project of Joseph Stalin who wanted 12” guns and 35 knots to outpace the IOWA’s. These ships would have formed part of a mix of coastal and naval forces to disrupt U.S. Battle Groups to prevent them from launching atomic weapons against the USSR. They would not have survived massive air attacks from U.S. CV aircraft. B114 $31.50 LION, British BB/CV hybrid WWII era. 44,750T, 800’L, 6-16”, 15-5.25”, 12 fighters, 2 torpedo planes This design was proposed in 1941 as a way of providing fighter coverage and limited strike capability. She would have had the BB LION hull with the aft 16” battery eliminated and a carrier deck added. While an interesting concept, there were too many drawbacks to proceed with such a design and the idea was shelved. She would have had the same main and secondary turrets that were planned for the LION class BB’s. There are differing opinions on how many aircraft she would have carried. G501 $28.50 GRAF ZEPPELIN, German WWII CV 33,550T, 861’L, 33.8K, 16-5.9”, Numerous AA, 12 fighters, 30 dive bombers Germany’s only CV, she was launched in 1938 85% complete. She never became operational. Her AC complement would have consisted of 12 Bf109 fighters and 30 “Navalized” Ju87 Stukas. Note: For aircraft for above, order CAP AERO C2G1 Bf109 and C2G3 Ju87 Stuka, They come five to a pack. $4.50 per pack.
