School opening time

As parents will be aware, the gates open at 08:35, when supervision begins, and children can come straight into their classrooms. All children should be in their classrooms for registration at 08:45 each morning.

For reasons of safety, please ensure that children are not arriving too early and using the area outside the nursery and bike racks as a playground, which has recently resulted in an accident occurring. Thank you.

Mr Tommy Top Hat came to visit Year 1.

He told us about life in Victorian times and brought with him lots of toys and games for us

to play with. We leaned about a range of toys from the past; how they worked and

what they were made from. We had a FANTASTIC time!

Visit from Northampton County Cricket Club ‘Steelbacks’

Key Stage 2 children all enjoyed a visit from the Steelbacks last term. The successful Steelbacks play ‘Twenty 20’ cricket (number of overs) which is a shorter and exciting game. Year 5 RMH are pictured here with the Captain, Alex Wakely.

Northamptonshire Festival of Music 2014 At the end of last term our three primary phase choirs took part in the annual music festival. Year 1 & 2 ‘Songbirds’ performed the ‘Nursery Rhyme Rap’ and ‘I’m a Giraffe’ with great enthusiasm and perfect pitch and were awarded joint 3rd place. Our ‘Junior Choir’ performed an impressive 4 -part piece called ‘Roundabout’ which they followed with a rendition of ‘Naughty’ from the musical, ‘Matilda’. This piece required excellent timing and some challenging harmony work which they nailed with precision. Whilst the choir were not placed, we thought they were excellent! On the last day of the festival the ‘Primary Choir’ performed at Christ Church in Abington. They sang ‘Inch Worm’ beautifully and their final piece, ‘Electricity’ was spine tingling, which earned them second place in the ‘Year 6 and Under’ category. Well done to everyone for all the hard work and practice. Thank you to Mrs Hussain, Mrs Murphy and Mrs Harle for leading our choirs and to all parents who supported the festival this year. We all love to sing at CCS!

Code of conduct for the taking of photos at CCS Event Parents are reminded that the school is happy for photographs to be taken at school events such as Class Spotlight Assemblies or Productions, but we do request that such photos are for personal use only and are not shared or posted on any social network sites such as ‘Facebook’ as this is an infringement of personal privacy rights when photos contains images of other children and/or staff. Thank you for your co-operation.

Learning Resource Centre News

The good news is that our new LRC is now ready to start lending books. Parents will have recently received information about the book loan system that is in place. The letter sets out the terms and conditions of book loan procedures and requires agreement from all parents. Please complete the agreement slip at the end of the letter and return it to school as soon as possible, as your child cannot borrow books form the LRC until the agreement slip has been signed and returned to school. Thank you.

World Book Day—March 6th 2014 http://www.worldbookday.com/

We will be celebrating this special day by inviting all primary phase children to come to school dressed as a character from a book. It might be your favourite book character or a character that interests you. We are looking forward to a great day of all things books and reading! All the children will be visiting the LRC and Y1-Y4 will have the exciting opportunity of meeting the children’s author/illustrator, Erica Jane Waters. Children can also purchase a signed copy of one of her books if they wish. Primary parents are also invited to visit the new LRC with their children on either Wednesday 5th or Thursday 6th March between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm. During this time you can browse our new book collection and visit the Book Fayre which will be in the LRC on these days. Please see the recent World Book Day letter which gives further details about book purchasing and visiting the LRC after school. Do visit the official WBD website to find out more. Each child will receive a £1.00 National Book Token.

So far we are pleased with the developments and improvements that we have made to PE lessons and opportunities to participate in non-competitive and competitive sport. The new House System is having a very positive impact on pupil engagement and enjoyment of sport; the children look forward to the termly sporting tournaments and there is great sense of excitement and encouragement during each event. Last term the cross country tournament was very exciting and we were so impressed with every child from Y1-Y6 who had chosen to represent their house. Well done everyone!

Snacks in school

As a member of the ‘Healthy Schools’ programme, our snack policy aims to ensure that all children have access to a healthy mid-morning snack to help maintain concentration and energy levels.

Fresh fruit is available, free of charge, to all Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children each day. In KS2 children may bring either a fresh fruit and/or vegetable snack to school; this can include dried fruit such as raisins. Children may also bring a wrapped biscuit or cereal bar. Children should not bring sweets, confectionery or crisps in to school for mid-morning snack.

You could visit the Change4Life Smart Swaps website for ideas on healthy snack options.

Packed lunches

We also encourage the provision a healthy, balanced packed lunch. We request that lunchboxes do not contain fizzy drinks, sweets and/or confectionery type products.

PLAYGROUND SAFETY– USE OF CLIMBING EQUIPMENT

For reasons of safety, children should not be playing on either the climbing frame or the adventure trail, before school or at the end of the school day. Parents are requested to ensure that pre-school children are not on the equipment either. Thank you.
