Mothers Day Afternoon Tea From the Chaplain Well I’m very excited to see that we are starting to give out free toothbrushes to the kids that are coming to breakfast club. The team here at East Narrogin have sourced some toothpaste and brushes and our aim is to give one to every student. At the moment we are just starting to hand them out to the students that come to breakfast club and getting them to brush their teeth afterwards. The message that we are aiming to get across is how important our teeth are and how we need to eat healthy and look after them. Marty Vause Chaplain Crunch & Sip Award Room 6 Assembly

Healthy Kids at East Narrogin Wow, we have been crunching and sipping through the last week with enthusiasm! Thank you parents and families for your support in ensuring that your child has their piece of fruit or veg and a water bottle to sip throughout the day.

Please keep your eyes open for a report in the Narrogin Observer in the near future highlighting our 10th Anniversary as a Crunch n’ Sip school.

CONGRATULATIONS to our poster competition winners:

    Crunch and Sip

    Pre-Primary– Tyler Ugle

    Years 1, 2, 3 – Annabelle Heal

    Years 4, 5 ,6 - Emma Phillips, Sarsha

    Hayes and Kaitie Phillips

Suggestion: At your next shopping trip, ask your child to help you choose something you haven’t tried or haven’t purchased for a while to put in the shopping trolley. Suggestions are cauliflower, capsicum, snow peas, baby cucumbers, beans and kiwi fruit. Younger children may enjoy their fruit or veg being cut up or sliced to add variety to their crunch and sip time. See if your family can have a ‘crunch off’ at dinner time to find the loudest crunch item in the salad bowl! Mrs Kensett-Smith and Mrs Dyke

    Eat Well for Less

Many people believe that unhealthy foods are cheaper than healthy alternatives but this is not the case. Your dollars are better spent on healthier foods which are less processed and are lower in salt, fat and sugar. Due to the convenience and time, we are relying on takeaway and ready-made meals more than ever before. In fact, the average family spends $3640 a year on takeaway!

This year’s FOODcents week falls on 4-9 May. To get involved, think of some ways that you can shop smart to save money but still provide healthy meals for your family.

Some ideas for you include: Plan your meals using a weekly menu Buy in bulk Grow your own food Make the most of leftovers Use your freezer Compare price per kilo Make vegetables the base of your meal, not meat Shop in season Pack your lunches instead of buying them Cook homemade meals rather than getting takeaway
