new neXt generation data centre: reading

reading coLocation:

Customers can use a section of technical space within this shared data centre area – enclosed by a portioned perimeter, secured with proximity security and monitored by CCTV. We offer 42U colocation racks from 16 Amps to 32 Amps.

reading PriVate coLocation sUites:

Private suites can be tailored to a customer’s exact requirements, while some are pre-configured for immediate availability. Access by proximity photo ID cards comes as standard and the suites are also monitored by CCTV. Upgrade options are also available. Power can also be tailored to exact requirements with single-phase up to 32 Amps and three-phase up to 64 Amps available per footprint.

In addition to colocation space, our Reading data centre also offers you access to virtual server hosting and a full suite of managed services.

our new next generation facility in reading is the blueprint for the future of “energy efficient” technology and equipment. Built to tier 3 standards and with a focus on innovative power usage, cooling, monitoring and maintenance, the data centre is designed to provide reliable, secure and affordable colocation outside of central London and the m25 ring.

The best available, proven equipment has been selected from leading vendors including new carrier grade Cisco ASR9000 routers, Cisco Nexus 7000 switches, Riello/Perkins generators (N+1), Rittal cold aisle pods and Weatherite air handling units.

• 100 racks• 2,750 sq ft• Up to 2KW per rack• Colocation ad hosting options• Green energy from renewable sources• Hands and eyes support 24/7/365• Connectivity with the highest grade network providers• Direct access circuits to our core network

• 450 racks• 25,000 sq ft• Up to 8KW per cabinet• 2MVA power available• Hands and eyes support 24/7/365• Connections to other major network providers• Direct access circuits to our 10Gb core network• Access to virtual server hosting & managed services

The cost of energy is increasing exponentially year-on-year. It’s now more important than ever to act

responsibly and use the most efficient, reliable data centres available. And where our needs are

not met by existing sites we are committed to building our own – to a blueprint that protects us and our customers for years to come.

One of the key efficiency drivers at our Reading facility is free (or fresh) air cooling. For the majority of the year, air handling units draw in ambient air from outside the data centre via intuitive window louvres, removing the need to cool the air with energy-hungry chiller units.

Our Reading data centre is monitored at two levels, both on-site at Reading and remotely via our Harrogate Service Management Centre. We monitor more than 200 key metrics 24 hours a day, every day.

We monitor everything from fuel levels in generators to battery temperatures in our Uninterrupted Power Supply. From the temperature in the pods to the air pressure in the entire building, no key metric is missed.

Security is also monitored at two levels – locally and remotely. There are multiple layers of physical and firewall security with instant alerts to our staff via the advanced Building Management System.

POWERUp to 3MW of power is available, with between 1.5 and 8KW per cabinet.

The facility also has N+1 backup generation, with an N+N UPS system.

COOLINGOur ultra-efficient ‘Free Air’ cooling system, including cold aisle

containment, will reduce cooling costs and environmental impact.

SECURITYSecurity guards man the Reading facility 24/365, while CCTV monitors

our data centre from the site itself, and also in our Harrogate HQ.

Photo ID and access cards are required as part of a ‘single person’

entry system, while an intruder alarm is fitted for full reassurance.

FIRE PROTECTIONThe site has an inert gas fire suppression system, in addition to a

network-monitored fire detection system to enable proactive prevention.

CONNECTIVITYOur Reading data centre is embedded within InTechnology’s highly

resilient national network, with additional connectivity available to and

from all other major network providers.

CERTIFICATIONThe data centre is engineered for concurrent maintenance, within

Tier 3 guidelines. The facility is ISO and PCI compliant for physical

hosting services.
