"Classic" or "classical" refers to that which endures over time. Classical Education is the model
of education that has been around from the start of history and it shaped some of the world‟s
greatest thinkers, influencers, inventors, and scientists.
Classical Education honed scholars and some of the world‟s greatest minds for centuries. It was
the education of Plato, St. Augustine, Shakespeare and Paul the Apostle. Classical Education is
at the core of our Bahamian History and prior to that, marked world history by the establishment
of the Roman Empire and Western Civilization.
With a sincere concern for the poor results of “modern” education, many all over the world are
returning to the solid, sound roots of Classical Education. Historically education had two key
parts – the Trivium (our K-12) and the Quadrivium, for the adult years.
New Providence Classical School is based on a pattern of education that aligns
with the way a child learns naturally. This threefold pattern called the Trivium teaches a child in
a manner that is best for his or her developmental stage.
The Trivium has three core phases which build upon each other, and this classical Trivium
method is applied to all subjects.
At New Providence Classical School we do not teach children for intellectual
regurgitation and test-taking, but rather to equip children with tools for lifelong learning!
Comprehension is Critical!
Equipping the child to comprehend, interact with, relay, analyze and apply information is
important to us. We help each child understand how the information fits into his or her life.
We also want the child to grasp an understanding of how the information learned fits into God‟s
larger design and world history as a whole!
The Trivium
Grammar – This stage is marked with a lot of memorization of classifications, tables, language,
grammatical structure and vocabulary, utilizing songs, chants and jingles as well as dance, art
and crafts for hands-on learning.
Dialectic (Logic) – In the Dialectic or Logic phase a child begins to understand the information
learned, reasons and asks logical questions. It is crucial that the child begins to learn to analyze
and organize facts in light of the other information he or she has already learned.
Rhetoric – In this phase students go beyond the memorization and logical sequencing of
information to presentation. Students learn how to correctly research, document, and present
information in written and verbal form. This is the crown jewel of a Classical Education and
results in a poised, mature, critically thinking young man or woman with adult level articulation
that is beautiful, compelling and convincing in manner.
New Providence Classical School Our Statement of Faith
The Statement of Faith is the foundation of belief upon which New Providence Classical School was established. This is the primary doctrine of New Providence Classical School. Secondary or divisive doctrines or issues will not be presented as primary doctrine. We believe that the Bible is the only inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God and that it is the final authority on all matters. We believe in one God who is eternal and exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and (the) Holy Spirit. We believe in the person and works of Jesus Christ, that Jesus is God and also man. We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus, that He died, was buried, raised again, and ascended to Heaven. We believe in the depravity of man and that without God man is in a lost condition. We believe that trust in God and acceptance of Jesus‟ finished work on the Cross leads to regeneration and everlasting life in God‟s presence. We believe that there is life after death. After death one is resurrected either to a life separated from God (damnation to Hell), or to Heaven, life eternal in God‟s presence. We believe that God cares, is loving, personal and knowable. We believe we are dependent on the power of God and the work of (the) Holy Spirit to renew and equip us in continual growth, fellowship, faithfulness, love, and obedience. We believe in the Unity of Believers and that individually and collectively we have a mandate to share God‟s Good News and to help others.
School’s Scriptures
John 15: 5
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
1 Peter 3:15
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to
every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

School’s Prayer and Song
PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISSI
Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not
so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.
