PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
The New Plymouth Performing Arts Competitions Society welcomes you to our annual festival event in New Plymouth, once again being held at the TSB Showplace. We are looking forward to yet another busy week full of our local and visiting entertainment. During the week our committee is available at all times for any queries that you may have, as we want to ensure you have a favourably enjoyable week. Please do not hesitate to approach us if you need our support. It is my pleasure to extend thanks to our adjudicators whom are visiting our wonderful province from various locations in New Zealand, and we hope during your stay you find time to enjoy what New Plymouth has to offer. Welcome to this year’s competitors, parents, caregivers, teachers, family and friends. The committee values your participation, and support and hope you all enjoy a fun packed week of great competitions. A special thank you also goes out to those repetitive competitors, whom continue to support our event and in doing so ensure the continuation of the Festivals' success. Good luck to all the competitors, enjoy your week and the people around you, and I hope you all get a little spare time in which you can enjoy other performing arts available throughout the festival.
Enjoy

ADJUDICATOR PROFILE:
BALLET & MODERN DANCE: Shelley Coutts, Invercargill – RAD RTS Distinction, Teaching Member of NZAMD and AJDA.
Shelley has operated her own Dance Academy in Invercargill for the past 15 years, where she actively teaches RAD classical ballet, contemporary and jazz genres. Previously to this Shelley and her Family lived in Wellington for 10 years where she actively taught classical ballet at the Debra Harris School of Ballet.
Shelley’s passion for choreography, artistry, clean technique and costuming sees many of her students competing successfully at local and Regional competitions, South Island Ballet Awards, PACANZ nominees (both solo performers and troupes) and groups performing annually in the ‘Christmas in the Stadium’ variety show – which performs to a live audience of 3000, and was live streamed in December 2017.
2017 was a real highlight for Shelley, which saw 3 of her female students obtain their RAD Adv 2 examination, and Dominic Burrows accepted into the New Zealand School of Dance as a full time Classical Major.
Both Shelley’s daughters danced to Advanced levels, and competed Nationally with Ballet, jazz and contemporary dance so it is fair to say she understands the preparation time and dedication that all
students and parents put into competition work.
Shelley also works Part time as a Teacher Aide in a local Primary School, and in her spare time loves cooking, gardening, sewing, and family time.
Shelley is really looking forward to visiting New Plymouth and adjudicating at the 2018 Competitions.
TAP DANCING: Michelle Heath, Auckland
Michelle has been dancing since the age of 2 and has completed all examinations in Tap, Ballet and Jazz (BBO and RAD). Her teachers were Pat McMinn and Jillian Andrews, she has also danced with the New Zealand Ballet Company in her early years. Michelle spent time in England and Australia, and on her return to New Zealand started teaching at Waitakere City School of Dance and has continued there for the past 10 years. Michelle teaches BBO Ballet and her students sit exams yearly, she also teaches Tap, Lyrical, Stretch & Limbering, Contemporary and Jazz and competition work. Michelle has adjudicated in numerous competitions in New Zealand, her latest being Westport in April 2018. The overall level of dancing at competitions has surpassed the standards required at exam level and as an adjudicator Michelle finds it fantastic to watch. Michelle has enjoyed watching the changes to dance over the years and is excited for what the future will bring towards the dancing world.
