ISSUE 4 A KERN COUNTY PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION PUBLICATION
All I can say is “Where’s the snow, where’s the snow, where’s the snow?!” I know Winter doesn’t officially start until December,
but there is usually snow by now. Hopefully we’ll see some in the Kern mountains in January!
I hope everyone completed their MCLE compliance for the 2012-2014 period—December 31, 2014 was the deadline to get your
required MCLE in as a California paralegal under Business & Professions Code section 6450. If you keep track of your attorney’s
MCLE and he or she is in need of ethics MCLE, sign them up for our January 8, 2015 ethics MCLE luncheon! Diane White of Brown
Armstrong will be speaking to us at noon at Coconut Joe’s. Please note that the deadline to RSVP for the luncheons has changed
due to an excessive amount of late RSVPs. Please make sure you e-mail Sasha before 5:00 p.m. on the Monday before any lunch-
eon to make sure your reservation is timely.
Our Community Affairs event for January is a blanket drive for the Bakersfield Homeless Center. Donations of new or gently used
blankets may be submitted at the January general meeting in January. If you are not able to make it to the January meeting, please
feel free to contact either Kristen or me and we will make sure to arrange to have your blankets included with the donation. We
will also be accepting cash donations at the January luncheon as well.
At our last luncheon in November, Jason Lee shared some information regarding the changes in the law and processes that affected
the Kern County Recorder’s office. We have shared those notices with you on pages 7 and 9 of the newsletter. Make sure you
check the new rules and policies before filing anything in the court’s and the recorder’s with the new year approaching!
I’d like to thank everyone who donated an Opportunity Drawing item for the Holiday Luncheon—the event turned out great! We
were able to raise a total of $2,008, which will be equally split between each of the charities.
Happy New Year everyone! ~Makala E. Reha, ACP
