A warm welcome back to our new season of quilting adventures at NMQG. I

hope you have found time this summer, despite the heat, to catch your breath

and that you come to this quilting season inspired and ready to be creative.

We had the privilege of travelling to Newfoundland this summer with our

daughter and her family, their first visit to this awesome province.

Everywhere we went we saw creativity - in nature, in quilt shops, in craft and

pottery shops and in the homes we visited. In Gros Morne's Rocky Harbour all

the beds in the cabins where we stayed had beautiful homemade quilts and a

plaque on the wall acknowledging the 81 year old lady who had made them.

Springdale's This 'n That Quilt Shop kept a "bit" of my money but I have some

beautiful batiks and a few new patterns to show for it!

Speaking of inspiration, the programs and courses organized by the program

committee for the upcoming season look very exciting. I'm curious to see

what the challenge and outreach committees have in store for us. A BIG thank

you to all the committee members who work so hard to keep us challenged,

educated and entertained.

It is with fear and trembling that I approach my term as President. But then

I remember that I'm not alone. Past presidents Marie and Karen are

wonderful support and you are all friends. I'm confident that together we can

make our beloved guild a place where we can inspire each other, share our love

of quilting and help others.

I'm looking forward to our time together at the September meeting.

Outreach Summer Projects

Thank you to members who worked so diligently over the summer on the kits and No Nonsense block packages

(nine patch or hourglass) that were handed out in June. We will accept them in October if you could not get to

complete them before now. We have a few more kits needing some work - available to take home if you prefer

to work that way. Please help as these jobs are small. Sinful Comfort kits and Walk About kits will be available

as they are prepared. We record who takes fabric bundles and kits – so if you have had one for any length of

time – we may be asking for their return.

QUILTS OF VALOUR PATTERNS: I have had several ladies ask for packages of the 14 blocks and they will be available at the Tuesday meeting at a cost of $4 per package to cover photocopy charges. If you wish to have the patterns and have not ordered your package, please do so as soon as possible so that you will not be disappointed this month. Northcott designers have created the fabric "O Canada" in support of Quilts of Valour, and Quilts of Valour Canada asks that blocks being sent to them, only be made from the O Canada fabric. If there is interest in making more blocks to send to Quilts of Valour, please let me know. If, however, you wish to make the blocks for a quilt for yourself, or to gift to someone yourself, you can use your stash. Please note the blocks MUST be 9 1/2" so they will fit together, - 9" finished blocks in the quilt. Evelyn B. 367-2187 - [email protected]
