Tue., Jan. 14;  Winnipeg 1 at New Jersey 5     The Devils closed out a home-and-home set with the Jets, while opening a season-high six-game homestand.  The decision gavethe club three straight victories, as well as a 5-1-0 mark in its last six contests. New Jersey won the season’s series 3-1-0, including oneovertime win.     The Devils took a 4-0 lead on goals by Ilya Kovalchuk (2), Petr Sykora and David Clarkson.  Kovalchuk’s second tally came withthe man advantage and gave him a team-leading 19 on the season.  Patrik Elias, who received his 1,000 games-played NHLMilestone Award prior to the game, notched the club’s fifth goal, while adding two assists.  He extended his point-scoring streak to sixgames (4g-6a-10pts).  Clarkson also picked up an assist for his fifth multiple-point game of the season.  Martin Brodeur (20 saves)earned the win in goal for New Jersey.  His shutout bid was snapped with 8:29 remaining in regulation.   Injuries     C Adam Henrique (slight groin strain, 2 gms missed) is out on a day-to-day basis.  C Travis Zajac (soreness, 7 gms) is out 2weeks.  He was placed on the club’s I.R. List Sat., retroactive to Jan. 2.  D Andy Greene (non-displaced toe fracture, Dec. 6 at Tor., 19gms) is out another 7-10 days.  He was placed on the I.R. Jan. 7, retroactive to Dec. 31.  On Jan. 4., C Steve Zalewski was recalled from Albany. On Dec. 29, D Alexander Urbom was assigned to Albany.  He had been previously recalled from Albany Dec. 9, along with D MattTaormina.   Coming into tonight     The Devils enter tonight’s game following a 5-1 win Tuesday night vs. Winnipeg.  Tuesday’s decision extended the club’s winningstreak to three games, and with a win tonight will match the team’s season-high four-game winning streak (Dec. 12-17). Now 26-17-2=52pts through 45 games, New Jersey did not record its 26th win last season until game no. 60 (26th win in game 62).     The Devils are 5-1-0 in their last six decisions on home ice, and 3-1-1 in their last five on the road. The club is 15-4-2 in one-goaldecisions, with a league-leading .714 win percentage.  New Jersey is 3-1 in overtime and 8-1 in shootouts, with an NHL-leading 24points after regulation (tie, Ott.).     For the Devils, tonight’s game is the second of a season-high six-game homestand.  New Jersey will continue the current standSaturday afternoon vs. Philadelphia (1:00 PM, MSG Plus, SportsRadio 66 WFAN). Season’s series     Tonight’s game between the Devils and Bruins marks the third of four meetings between the two teams this season, and thesecond/final contest to be played here at Prudential Center.     Boston leads the season’s series 2-0-0 following a 6-1 win Jan. 4, outscoring New Jersey 10-4, while holding a 64-61 edge in shots. Nick Palmieri (2g), David Clarkson (2g) and Zach Parise (2a), lead the Devils with two points each, while Patrice Bergeron (2g-1a)and Gregory Campbell (1g-2a) have three points each to lead the B’s.  Johan Hedberg (0-1-0, .892 save % & 4.06 GAA) and MartinBrodeur (0-1-0, .778 save & 6.00 GAA) have shared the goaltending duties for New Jersey, while Tim Thomas (2-0-0, .934 save %& 2.00 GAA) was in goal for Boston.     The Bruins lead the all-time series 48-41-15, but the Devils are 22-22-7 in their previous 51 home games.     The fourth/final game of the series will be played Mar. 1 at Boston. Shorthanded Story     The Devils scored a shorthanded goal in a franchise-record four consecutive games Jan. 6-11.  The franchise’s previous record ofthree games was accomplished three times (including Col.), last time Mar. 24-28, 1992.       Jan. 11 at Edmonton, the team scored its league-leading 11th shorthanded goal of the season, its most since 12 in 2008-09 andafter scoring just five all of last year.  The franchise record for shorthanded goals in a single-season is 18, set in 1987-88.  Conversely,Jan. 2 at Ottawa, New Jersey gave up its NHL-leading 12th shorthanded goal (franchise record for single season: 19, 1992-93).     New Jersey’s penalty-killing unit did not allow a power play goal at home until the second period Dec. 8 vs. Ottawa, a stretch of tengames and 39 attempts.  This stretch of ten home games is tied for the longest in franchise history, accomplished twice previously: Dec. 28-Feb. 4, 2003 (0-28) & Oct. 30-Dec. 6, 1997 (0-22). Elias appears in 1,000th Game     On Jan. 6 vs. Florida, center Patrik Elias became the third player (K. Daneyko, 1,283 & M. Brodeur, 1,156) to appear in 1,000games in a Devils’ sweater.  He is the 271st player in NHL history to reach the 1,000-game milestone & the tenth to do so while playingfor New Jersey, following N.      Prior to Tuesday' night's game vs. Winnipeg, Elias received his NHL Milestone Award from NHL Senior Vice President of HockeyOperations Jim Gregory. Milestones     On Jan. 14, Petr Sykora recorded an assist to reach the 700-point mark in his NHL career.     On Jan. 7, Patrik Elias appeared in his 1,000th NHL game.  On Dec. 28, he recorded two assists to reach the 500-assist mark in hisNHL career. On Dec. 17, he scored two goals to tie/surpass John MacLean (347) for the most goals in franchise history.  On Nov. 2,Elias passed MacLean for the most PPG in team history with his 93rd.     On Jan. 2., RW Dainius Zubrus posted his 200th career NHL goal. On Nov. 16, he appeared in his milestone 1,000th game.  OnNov. 8, Zubrus posted 1g-1a-2pts to reach/surpass the 500-point mark in his NHL career.     On Nov. 12, D Anton Volchenkov appeared in his 500th NHL contest.Approaching     Bryce Salvador needs 2pts for 100.     Cam Janssen needs 5 games for 300. What’s new?     Devils’ Head Coach Peter DeBoer is the 15th individual to stand behind the team’s bench.  He is joined by Asst. Coaches LarryRobinson, Adam Oates, Dave Barr & Goaltending Coach  Chris Terreri.     LW Zach Parise was named the team's ninth captain.  C Patrik Elias and LW Ilya Kovalchuk are serving as alternates.     D Adam Larsson was selected in the first round (4th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut Oct. 8. Ironman streak     When Travis Zajac's consecutive games-played streak came to an end, David Clarkson became the Devils' new ironman, havingplayed in 147 consecutive games.  On Dec. 16, Henrik Tallinder ended a stretch of playing in 217 straight contests overall, including111 with NJ and 106 with Buf. Henrique and Larsson All-Star Rookies     On Jan. 12, Devils C Adam Henrique and D Adam Larsson were among 12 rookies selected to participate in the 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend, Jan. 26-29 in Ottawa.  A total of 36 All-Stars and 12 rookies were selected by the NHL, joining the first six playerselected by fans in 2012 NHL All-Star Fan Balloting™, presented by Sirius XM.   Henrique is tied for the lead among first-year players with 13 goals and is second with 34 points.  Larsson leads all rookiedefensemen with 13 assists and 15 points. World Junior Championships     The 2012 IIHF World U-20 Junior Championships got underway Dec. 26 in Calgary & Edmonton, Alta.  Devils’ prospects whoparticipated in this year’s tournament were:  D Jonathon Merrill (USA, 2nd rd./’10) & G Scott Wedgewood (Canada, 3/’10).  Merrillfinished the tournament with 0g-4a and 6 PIM in six games for the United States, while Wedgewood went 2-0-0 with a .956 save %,2.42 GAA and one shutout in three appearances for Team Canada.  In the Gold Medal Game on Jan. 5, Sweden defeated Russia, 1-0in OT;  while Canada defeated Finland, 4-0, for the Bronze Medal. Henrique named Rookie of the Month     Devils’ C Adam Henrique, who led all rookies in scoring with 5g-8a-13pts, while posting a +9 rating in 14 games, was named theNHL Rookie of the Month for December. Rookie point-streak     Devils’ C Adam Henrique was held scoreless Dec. 10 vs. Montreal, snapping his season-high seven-game point-scoring streak (2g-7a-9pts).  The team’s rookie record of eight was accomplished three times previously:  Travis Zajac (Mar. 15-30, ’07), Scott Gomez(Nov. 12-Dec. 1, ’99) and Kevin Todd (Dec. 8-21, ’92).   Larsson’s point-scoring streak     With his second goal of the season Nov. 26 vs. NY Islanders, Adam Larsson tied a team rookie defenseman record by recording apoint (1g-4a-5pts) in his fifth straight game (S. Niedermayer, Oct. 31-Nov. 13, 1992 & B. Driver, Jan. 14-23, 1985). Brodeur saves and assists     G Martin Brodeur recorded his 39th career assist Dec. 28 vs. Buffalo, his third point of the season.  On Nov. 16, he notched aPPA.  He now has 8 career PPA;  as well as 2 SHA & 29 at even strength.  One of his even-strength assists came in OT, his lone pointin the extra session.  Brodeur has posted assists in back-to-back games once, Feb. 26-28, '98.
