As the body of Christ, we are called to serve one another in

practical ways with the gifts God

has given us. As we do, the body

grows and becomes stronger.

“All of you together are Christ's body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27, NLT). Service is essential to the growth and health of the body of Christ. Your service to the church is necessary! Unfortunately, the reality is that so few members of the body serve.

If one part of our physical body, such as the lungs, fails to function, the entire body suffers. If our lungs become independent of the rest of our body, we will eventually die.

It is the same with the body of Christ: If one part fails to function, the entire body suffers. Perhaps this is why many Christian churches do not grow and eventually die, because

not everyone is serving — or willing to serve. Are you serving? Or are you standing on the sidelines watching others serve? We are called to serve! It is not a suggestion but a command (Galatians 5:13), and Paul writes it as a command because he knows how essential your service is to the

body.

Because if each person does not do his or her part, the body will suffer and die. The body of Christ needs you!

“God has given each of you a gift from his

great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one

another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others?

Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen” (1 Peter 4:10-11, NLT).

Pastor Mike Speegle will be here with wife Lori for his first official New Hope Sabbath as our senior pastor.

Don’t miss this special time, and the specific opportunities below, to welcome the Speegles into the church community!

GIFTS FOR GOOD EATINGWe’d like to welcome the Speegles in a big way — through their stomachs! Get a gift card to your favorite local restaurant (suggested amount at least $25), and write on a separate card why it’s your favorite. We will collect the cards on July 6 and present the gift that day. If you won’t be here July 6 but still want to contribute, you can drop off cards at the church office during the next week or after that day.

LUNCH ON THE LAWNBring your lawn chairs and fill up your picnic baskets! Join us for a casual lunch out on our beautiful property starting right after first service. We’ll supply the canopies, drinks and all eating utensils; you bring your food for your family, chairs, blankets and casual clothes. Let’s enjoy this informal time to get to know our new pastor!

To understand the pain caused by Hannah’s childlessness, one must realize how important it was in Old Testament times that women have children. A barren woman was an embarrassment, even a disgrace. Adding to Hannah’s pain were the taunts of Elkanah’s other wife, Peninnah. Even Elkanah’s love for Hannah and his words of encouragement could not comfort her.

Hannah provides us with a great example of what we should do when we are hurting. “In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed” (1 Samuel 1:10). She poured out her heart — even her bitterness — to God. It was a prayer of frustration, pain, anguish and sadness. God wants to hear from us when we’re hurting and, yes, even when we’re bitter or angry with Him.

Hannah’s prayer and God’s answer tell us an important truth: When we experience pain and sadness, anguish and despair, we have

a God who understands. Jesus has experienced those things too.

Knowing that God is right there with us, listening and answering our prayers, gives us comfort and peace.

God cares about our human hurts. Turn to God and leave your pain with Him today.
