Homeschool Co-op Introductory Meeting

Welcome! Prayer

Introduction: Name, area of residence, greatest challenge/concern for your child(ren’s)

education this year, your greatest talent, gift, or area of expertise

Opening Questions:

How would you like to have an education solution that is stable, and mostly unaffected by

the ever changing laws and decisions of the government today?

How would you like to feel confident you have chosen the safest and healthiest option for

you and your family in the midst of a global pandemic?

How would you like to build your own schedule this year, that includes your choice of an

individualized plan for the education of your child(ren) that best suits your family’s needs?

How would you like to offer your child(ren) an education that includes a Biblical worldview,

offered in a loving, Christian environment?

How would you like to buy your children rain boots and winter coats instead of the latest

$100 hoodie or $150 pair of shoes for their back to school wardrobe?

How would you like to be partially involved in the education experience by using your own

gifts, talents and abilities with the age groups, subjects and tasks you are most comfortable

with and enjoy?

How would you like to help create a fun, exciting outdoor Learning Adventure Center that

includes separate areas for creative play (i.e. Roadway, Construction site, Bug and Flower

Garden, Dino Land, Mud Pie Kitchen, Weather Station, Water Play, Sand Play, High School

Science Lab, High School Kitchen Prep, Wood Shop, Mechanics Shop…) and Carpet Ball.

“Loose Parts” which are smaller items for play, themed for each area, are kept in water-

proof bins and have to be checked in and out by the child, teaching responsibility, and acts

as reward after a focused time of learning. Several of these areas are designed specifically

for preschoolers to enjoy creative play while parents oversee seatwork of older children.

How many of you believe other people have knowledge and skills in areas you don’t, that

your child could benefit from?

Page 3: New Hope 4 Education

Legal Structure—New Hope 4 Education is:

• An outreach ministry of New Hope Church, a 501(c)3 non profit organization

• A “Homeschool Co-op”

“Homeschool” allows parents to choose their children’s curriculum. Parents are

allowed to receive “tutoring” help from others as long as the parents provide 50% of

the education oversight

“Co-op” signifies, parental involvement as one parent oversees or teaches the chil-

dren in their area of expertise, while another teaches in theirs. Other opportunities

for parent involvement is reading to, teaching, or playing with younger children,

keeping the learning and play areas clean and tidy, supervising play time to keep

everyone safe and encourage creative thinking and imaginative play

Core Values

• It is the desire of New Hope 4 Education;

To offer an affordable, Christian education alternative to the public school education

being offered today

To provide a smaller, more intimate setting, for safer, social interactions, and to cre-

ate a more stable environment in response to the frequent changes due to the Covid

19 crisis

To offer an outdoor, education experience (whenever possible) using nature to en-

hance the learning environment, promote creativity, and inhibit the spread of germs

To promote a healthy curiosity, experimentation, and appreciation for the natural

wonder of God’s beautiful creation

To engage the often dormant, wealth of knowledge, information and resources avail-

able within our own community to enhance the education of our children and

grandchildren

Theme Verse:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Proverbs 9:10

Business Plan

Created and Directed by: Kelli R. Lieder

Mission Statement: New Hope 4 Education exists to support families choosing to homeschool

their children by providing affordable, loving, daily oversight, and weekly, group, specialty ses-

sions in an atmosphere that promotes health, creativity, respect and appreciation for the

beauty of God’s creation.

Problem: 1.) Constant changes and complications due to Covid-19, have made an unstable,

sometimes unreasonable, stressful environment for learning 2.) Absence of Christian morals,

values and truth being taught today in the public schools

Our Solution: New Hope 4 Education is offering several affordable options, that include a

Biblical worldview in a healthy, outdoor (as weather permits) environment.

Target Market: We want to help parents who are not satisfied with the schedule, demands,

curriculum, and instability of the public school system, and/or those who want their children

to learn a Biblical worldview, in a loving environment, surrounded by the beauty of nature.

The Competition: Homeschool co ops are becoming more and more prevalent as a much

needed solution for the education problems of today. Finding one that is a perfect fit for you

and your child is foundational to your homeschooling success.

Revenue Streams: Families may choose oversight for seatwork for up to 4 days per week at

$25 per child per day. Due to homeschooling laws, the parents must provided a minimum of

50% of their children’s education. So it would be necessary for parents to oversee 50% of

their work at home, or, for a discounted rate, volunteer 50% of their time at the co-op doing

tasks that are more in line with their own gifts, talents and abilities.

An additional source of income is the Fridays R4 Fun days of special interest learning. The cost

is $10 per child, plus a $25 registration fee. Parents can choose to teach one session per child

attending, to erase the cost. Teaching arrangements must be made in advance. Children under

the age of 5 must be accompanied by an adult. This weekly event is open to anyone and eve-

ryone.

Marketing Activities: Word of mouth and social networking are the two, most effective meth-

ods of marketing. Fund Raisers could also be used to raise awareness and funds for the Co-op

and could also be used as a practical businesses teaching tool for high schoolers.

Business Plan & Structure

Expenses: To start with, expenses will be kept to a minimum by using

natural resources and an outdoor setting (as weather permits). Utilizing the

knowledge and wisdom of volunteer parents, and others from the community, will also help

keep costs down. The main expense is the salary of the Director, responsible for initiating,

researching, creating, organizing, marketing, navigating, advising, monitoring curriculum

content, and even teaching in the co-op as needed. When weather forces the co-op indoors,

utilities will be another expense to consider. Supplies will need to be purchased occasionally

for certain classes and activities. For more specialized classes, parents may be asked to pay a

supply fee.

Goals:

• To give Children the Opportunity

• To walk with wise men. For he who walks with wise men, will be wise, and if you

instruct a wise man, he will be wiser still.

• To socialize with others, enjoying fun with friends in a safe, nurturing, chaperoned

environment

• To give Adults the Opportunity

• To work in the are of their God given gifts to equip God’s people for works of ser-

vice, so the body of Christ may be built up.

• To sharpen one another, for as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Until we all reach unity in the faith, and knowledge of the Son of God and become mature.

Volunteers are valued, and appreciated, at New Hope 4 Education. Thank you for helping us

support families during these difficult times. You do not have to be a parent of a school aged

wise, knowledgeable, respectful, Christ-like adults.

Special Guidelines

for Extra Curricular Tutoring and Group Lessons

Dig deeper with private tutoring and advanced, specialized training.

If you have a skill you could teach, and an audience who is interested, we can provide you the

opportunity and space. Each instructors would set their own rates. If your trade allows, make

it more economical for families by teaching multiple students at a time. Offer multiple classes,

divided by age groups to encompass the largest audience. Parents are welcome to sit in on in-

struction time. Income received through this type of instruction would be split; Half of each

child’s tuition goes to help support New Hope 4 Education and covers the cost of space, utili-

ties, and insurance, the instructor keeps the rest. This provides an opportunity for additional

income and can also help offset the cost of your child’s tuition. Class times can be held in pur-

suant of regular daily instruction times.

Homeschooling Styles and Curriculum Options

By Whitney Wakley

Each family and child is unique- your education can reflect that. You have choices! More choices than you can

imagine.

A good place to start is by finding your educational approach, or philosophy. This helps narrow down those

options. (For more info on these and other helpful topics visit www.hslda.org)

Most basic fit into:

• Classical- goal of training the mind. Breaks education into a trivium, or three-staged process. Focuses first

on absorbing facts, then thinking through arguments and final in high school learning to express them-

selves.

• Charlotte Mason- learning through real or “living” books with an emphasis on the child’s whole self, not

just the mind. A “feast of ideas” from a wide range of sources.

• Unit Study- taking a topic and incorporating all learning in relation to it. For example, with a child who

loves horses you can incorporate history, reading, writing, math, geography and more all in relation to

horses. History of horses, breeding, where they came from, read classic stories about horses and write an

essay about it, research the cost of horses and calculate how the price has changed over time, make cal-

culations for exchange rates for horse values in other countries and so on Traditional (think textbooks

or “school at home”)

• Mixed or Eclectic- a combination of any of these! Once you have an idea of your approach, choosing cur-

riculum becomes a little easier! www.cathyduffyreviews.com is a great source for finding out more about

curriculums. Reviews discuss content, level of parent-involvement and preparation, religious perspective,

if any, presented, and the educational method and approach used.

• Boxed Curriculum- one company produces and/or packages everything you need for the entire school

year. Pros: it’s easy, no decisions or multiple selections required. Lesson plans are often already made

and included. Available in many of the educational approaches. Cons: can be quite expensive and not al-

ways customizable if say a child is ahead in one subject but needs help or review in another.

When you’re ready to purchase, check out Facebook Marketplace and some of the other Facebook Curricu-

lum groups. You can get great deals and save a lot by buying items used!
