by Anando’s children

What would you think if I sang out of tune ?

Would you stand up and walk out on me ?

FEELHanshi Khushi is an organisation which works with specially abled children. Their centre is in the same locality as our organisation, Anando.

We had heard that like us ,the Hanshi Khushi students love doing art and craft. But they are not able to do so often enough because there are not enough volunteers to help.

WE CAN HELP!That was our first thought when we heard about Hanshi Khushi’s dilemma.

All of us are artistic and good with our hands. We love messing around with paints and stuff!

We went to meet Urna Bose , the principal of Hanshi Khushi. From her we learnt more about the school and the students who attend it.

Mrs. Bose was delighted with our offer and suggested that we could help her students create craft items that could be sold at their annual sale before the Durga Puja vacation

We soon got to work. We decided to come in twice a week for an hour before we ourselves went to school.

At first we were a bit apprehensive. The children were so different from us….how would we handle them??

Page 7: New friends presentation

But then we realised that the Hanshi Khushi children did not need “handling” at all!

Sure, they needed some help from us but they were enjoying the activities as much as we were !

And…..

Page 8: New friends presentation

…it was so much more fun than we had imagined!

The HK students were teenagers like us…..

…and we could laugh and joke with them like we do with our other friends.

We enjoyed being teachers too!

Every week at our Sunday activity sessions with Anando, we touched up and completed the things we had made with the HK students earlier

With all our other friends joining in, we also made a set of jute dolls for the sale
