What’s new with PBIS????

Panther Parliament is our Student Government Association

at Fishkill Plains Elementary School. It is run by a teacher

advisor (Miss Scalzo) , as well as seven students from grade 5-

6.

The 5th and 6th grade students ran a fierce, fair, and

creative campaign in their respective classes. Now it’s time to

get to work.

Our representatives for the 2015-2016 school year are Dante

Mandile, Ciara Elliott, Delaney Mohl, Matthew Krauza,

Gaelen Kelly, Erika Huston, and Finn Sobel.

Throughout the school year, we will be having Pan-

ther Pride Days. We will do our best to give one week

notice for our Panther Pride Days. Each Pride Day is de-

signed to promote unity in our school, as well as raise money

for the community.

Our first goal is to raise $420. This is for foam

footballs, jump ropes, kick balls, and a compact ball locker to

hold all the equipment in. Therefore, on each Pride Day, we

ask that the children, who participate, to send in $1 in cash to

contribute to their playground equipment fund.

Our first Pride Day was a huge success!!!!

We raised well over half our goal and anticipate

being able to buy even more playground equip-

ment then expected!

Our next Spirit Day will be January

29th. It will be "Mustache Day". So, Panthers

prepare your best 'staches and mustache gear!

Our PBIS team has been working

on our final initiative! The Bath-

room Expectations Video will be

presented to all grades in addi-

tion to announcing our Lunch-

room and Panther Payment win-

ners in early February.

For the past eight weeks, the Wappingers

Central School District has been running a

special program by the Math & Physics Ex-

ploration at the Fishkill Plains Elementary

School for selected students from the 5th and

6th Grades. The program was developed by

Dr. Irwin Miller and previously tested in the

Poughkeepsie and Arlington school districts.

The program is run under the philosophy of

Common Core with an emphasis on learning

and studying techniques. The level of work is

at that of eleventh grade students, but they

are taught material that is well beyond what

eleventh grade students are learning.

Some examples would include: how to do 18 x

18 multiplications, how to solve magic

squares from 3x3 to 9x9, how to perform

mind reading tricks using number structure,

how to prove the rules for multiplying and

dividing fractions, how to do binomial expan-

sion and how to use it to prove trigonometric

formula.
