MAY 8-10, 2020 (Friday evening through Sunday lunch) New Creation and the Alchemy of Love A weekend workshop with .O and George Schaefer Early Friends discovered that there is an Inward Guide that can lead us into ways of living that are sincere to the Spirit of Christ. This became the bedrock of Quaker religious experience and remains so today. When we center ourselves in silent worship, sinking down to the source of being, what arises is a felt-sense of presence: a Spirit that we trust to lead us to greater love for others and ourselves. For this reason, early Friends often spoke of living in the new creation — not a mystical otherworldly place, but a reality pregnant with potential. It is this unitive attitude towards God and the world that informs the Quaker approach: we return to the Spirit! Join us as we explore living and loving in the new creation, opening our eyes and our hearts to the deep and creative intelligence of love. George Schaefer is clerk of Abington Friends Meeting (PA). Since 2009, he has served Philadelphia Yearly Meeting as Care & Aging Coordinator providing pastoral care and support to meetings and members. A clinical social worker, George has explored intentional community and its power to heal and restore relationships. .O models and teaches the transformative power of Love. Under the care of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, .O’s ministry, “Love and Respect Transform,” involves climate justice work with Philly Thrive and co-facilitating Alternatives to Violence Project trainings, among other things. A dynamic group facilitator with years of experience in body wisdom, stress reduction, and the healing powers of love, .O has worked with such organizations as Women for Sobriety, Women Within, and Interim House (a drug and alcohol treatment center).
