Hello Past, Present, and Future Members! It has been a busy few weeks for the Nevada Striper Club. Besides nearly getting blown away at the tournament, we held our Fundraiser Yard Sale at Dick Gagan’s house on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1. What a fantastic response from club members who donated items, came out to help set up/tear down, or stayed to help the shoppers spend their money. This was one of our most successful yard sales to-date! A very special thank you to Dick Gagan for the generous donation to the club from the sale of his motorcycle! But, the fun did not end there. On Wednesday, July 4th we participated in the Boulder City 4th of July Parade. A huge thank you to James Barrs and A1 Concrete Cutting for donating the use of the water truck, and to Robert Keyes for letting us use his boat (once again) in the parade. We had a small group, I was unable to stay for the parade myself, but these guys came out and represented our club in style. Our “floats” looked very patriotic and amazing. I understand the real water fight battle happened just outside of Mike O’s house. Our Special Guest at the June meeting was Ivy Santee, the Angler Education Coordinator for NDOW. Ivy has been a great friend to the Nevada Striper Club and we have worked together on many programs. Ivy has had her hand in just about everything, but she may be best known for her efforts with the Free Fishing Day events for kids and the Cast for Kids program. A bit of sad news, Ivy let us know that this will be our last year with her has she has plans to retire next March. We will be sure to see her a few more times before she goes though. Thank you for everything Ivy, we are sure going to miss you! Big News - we are trying our hands at a new type of fundraiser. With the help of our newest member, and marketing director, Kameron Hawkins, the Nevada Striper Club is going to host the first annual Nevada Nevada Striper Monthly Letter from President July 2018 ~ Volume 11, Issue 5

I understand the real water fight battle happened just outside of Mike O’s house.

Striper Club Golf Classic at Spanish Trails Golf Club. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21st. We will be setting up an information booth on the 1st tee to let everyone know about our club and are looking for other companies or groups to sponsor the other holes. At the end of the tournament, we will have food, awards, and a raffle. As part of our hosting perks, we will have 4 tickets for us to form our own 4-some. If your company would be interested in being a hole sponsor, a player, or raffle donator, please contact Kameron at 702-306-5370. We will have an email link put on our Facebook page and web site shortly that will provide more information and registration, and we will have posters to distribute too.
Our next meeting is scheduled for July 12th at Bass Pro Shop. We will be back in the upstairs Conservation Room, and the meeting starts at 7:00 pm. Our Special Guests for this meeting is Nick Duhe, the Boating Education Coordinator for NDOW. Here’s your chance to get clarification on boater safety questions or get a refresher some of the rules that might have been forgotten.
Pizza is on the menu for the weigh-in picnic.
Remember our motto: Sharing and Caring in Southern Nevada. We are here to educate and help fellow anglers learn the art of catching Striped Bass and have fun along the way.

Page 3 June Tournament Recap By Toby Chandler
This year will be one crazy season, membership has some club members returning and taking the top podium places on a somewhat regular basis. The Steckel’s, a father & son in the adult division, are doing rather well, welcome back guys. We can’t forget about Richard “Dicky” Gagan who surprised us and himself by finding a place on the podium after a 6-year drought. Congratulations on your 4th place finish Dicky.
The Tournament Director curse is still in play but seems to be affecting some of the other officers (Pres. & VP) Our old buddy Mr. Wind has been plaguing the last few tournaments, especially this last one. Friday the wind started blowing at around 25-30 mph and did not let up until Sunday. Some anglers fished from the shore, others hid in secluded coves and others just toughed it out.
Once again, the bait was easy for a few anglers, while others had empty nets and bait tanks. The water levels are continuing to drop about a foot a week. Monsoons have also started but the runoff does not seem to change the lake levels, only add muddy water and debris.
As a reminder to all club members the park rangers and other law enforcement will be cracking down on Styrofoam and glass containers this year. Also, no fish may be exchanged with anyone until all tournament activities are complete.
Calling All Cooks and Backyard Chefs, here’s your chance to share your mad skills with the club. Send us your recipe and have it featured here. (can be anything, it does not have to be fish only)
Grilled Striped Bass by Martha Stewart
Ingredients: 4 Striped Bass Filets (6 oz each), ¼ cup EVOO, Few sprigs thyme or oregano, coarse salt, 3 tbsp
lemon juice, 2 garlic cloves (smashed), lemon wedges and fresh chives for garnish
Directions:
1. Combine oil, lemon juice, thyme or oregano, garlic, and pepper in a large shallow bowl. Add fish to
marinade, and turn to coat; cover with plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator 30 minutes.
2. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove fish from marinade, letting excess drip off. Place
on grill, skin side down, and season with salt. Grill until skin is lightly browned and starting to crisp.
Carefully turn fillets, and cook until well browned and cooked through (center will be opaque), 5 to 6
minutes. Garnish with chives and lemon wedges, if desired. Serve hot or at room temperature.
