What is Interactive Art?
• The viewer is not only a bystander
• Both artist and viewers contribute to the art
• The goal of the piece is achieved through interaction
Adam Brown and Andrew Fagg: Bion
Art and Science
•They evolve together•Science provides art with the media
Our Project
Goals:
• To create a socially interactive art installation
Our Project
Goals:
• To create a socially interactive art installation
• How can we create behaviors that are engaging and expressive?
A social robot?
• How do we make a creature recognizably social?
• Now, how do we make a legless, floating creature unlike most things we’ve seen social?
• By exploring the boundaries of social behavior.
Our Project
Tertiary Aspects:
• Neutrally buoyant
• Ornithopter (winged propulsion)
• Expressed as artificial life
• Utilizes reinforcement learning

Current Status
• Building a prototype
• Learning reinforcement learning
• Working on structure/design
Future Work
• Ornithopter wing design (we get to play with toys)
