Networking Essentials provides both theory and practice in a condensed and focused manner. The course is designed to provide the tools necessary to not only understand Ethernet technology, but also how to commission, manage and monitor infrastructure equipment. After attending, participants should have a better overall understanding of data transportation via Ethernet. Objective In this course, participants will learn the essentials of Ethernet and IP networking. The curriculum begins with cabling and works up to switching and routing, covering types of traffic that exist in the network, the associated addressing and how the devices themselves handle or distribute the traffic. The Practical portion provides instruction on how to commission an Ethernet switch as well as how to segment and manage traffic for efficiency and performance. There are hands-on sessions for troubleshooting, switch security, traffic segmentation via VLANs, traffic filtering and network resiliency via redundancy. Who Should Attend End Users, System Integrators, Controls Engineers, Distributor Automation Specialists, and anyone who wishes to properly troubleshoot, maintain, evolve, and support an Industrial Ethernet network. Prerequisites No previous knowledge of the subject is required. The participant should bring a laptop with Ethernet connection and an operating system CD. Administrator rights are required.
