3 Design and function

The static frequency converters series SRF are used for speed control of the electric external vibrators series NEG / NEH. Special applications require frequencies that cannot be achieved with normal multipole external vibrators. The special feature of these frequency converters is to be found in their robust and uncomplicated structure. The fully equipped units are intended for fitting on walls.

Low-loss power electronics permit operation with input voltages with high tolerances. These frequency converters produce constant three-phase voltages with frequencies of 0,5 Hz to 120 Hz. So the rotation speed may be easily set without problems. The permitted temperature range lies between 0 ºC and +40 ºC.

The mains voltage and mains frequency must match the nominal voltage and nominal frequency shown on the type plate. ± 5% voltage variations or ± 2% frequency variations are permitted.

4 Safety

Electrical components powered with electrical voltage when the main switch is turned off, are marked with a special sticker.

In the event of failure to note specially marked areas there is a potential “risk to life” or “risk of injury.” In these areas, only maintenance staff may carry out maintenance work. Maintenance staff must work only in accordance with the relevant safety measures.

The operator must monitor the condition of the unit with the greatest care. It is mandatory to observe the protection measures. If there is damage to or if there are faults with the unit, these are to be repaired in the correct manner.

The operators may only operate the unit i.e. the operator has no authority to open the cabinet or to work on the vibrators. In the event of technical problems, the maintenance staff must be consulted.

Incorrect work on or modifications to the electrical or mechanical presets of these units may lead to consequential damage, which is both expensive and likely to lead to long machine downtimes. The guarantee is invalidated. The consequences are to be borne by the party to blame.

The prescribed safety procedures must be strictly observed. The unit may only be operated if all connection cables are connected and there is/are no damage or faults.

The mains voltage and mains frequency must match the nominal voltage and nominal frequency shown on the type plate. ± 5% voltage variations or ± 2% frequency variations are permitted.

Before installation and start-up it is essential to read the concise instructions for the frequency converter completely and carefully. Strict observance of these instructions is to be ensured by the operating company. The non-compliance leads to the rejection of any claims.

Changes to the unit may affect the characteristics or destroy it and cause rejection of any claims. The non-compliance with these operating instructions also leads to the rejection of any claims.

5 Transport and storage

The units are packed ready for installation. The type plate is in the SRF. When transporting the SRF ensure that the SRF is not subjected to any major impacts or vibrations which might damage the unit. The unit should be stored in a dry, clean environment.

If the SRF has to be kept in storage for a lengthy period (up to max. two years), the temperature in the storage area must not be below +5 °C or over +40 °C and the relative air humidity must not exceed 60 %.

The cabinet and the vibrators are only to be moved with the aid of the eye bolts provided for this purpose. The appropriate lifting gear is the usual equipment such as blocks and tackles or cranes. To move heavy weights, suitable steel cables or lifting straps that are of adequate dimensions for these weights are to be used. The cabinet and the vibrators are to be handled with great care during transportation. The cabinet and the vibrators must not be stored in the open air. In the event of storage of the components in the open air, the electrical components (in the cabinet and the vibrators) are not protected against corrosion.

Check the packaging for possible signs of transport damage. In the event of damage to the packaging, check that the contents are complete and undamaged. If there is any damage, inform the shipping agent.

6 Installation

During installation, a suitable power supply cable should be used. Cables and earth wires are to be connected in accordance with the regulations. The electrical cables are to be laid with care. Here one should ensure that the cables are not worn through by vibrating parts. There should be a check at regular intervals (as a rule every six months) to see that the electrical cables and their plugs are in perfect condition. Any faults discovered are to be corrected immediately. Protect the cable from high temperatures, lubricants and sharp edges.

During operation of the SRF the compliance with the EMC regulation must be ensured.

The mains voltage and mains frequency must match the nominal voltage and nominal frequency shown on the type plate. ± 5% voltage variations or ±2 % frequency variations are permitted.

When working on the SRF, it must be safely disconnected from the electrical mains. You should proceed as follows: 1. Switch off SRF

2. Secure against switching on again

3. Confirm that the unit is not live

The NFU must be considered as a com-ponent: it is neither a machine nor a device ready for use in accordance with European directives (machinery directive and electromagnetic compatibility di-rective). It is the responsibility of the end user to ensure that the machine meets these standards.

DANGER

The drive must not be used as a safety device for machines posing a potential risk of material damage or personal injury (lifting equipment, for example). In such applications, overspeed checks and checks to ensure that the trajectory remains under constant control must be made by sepa-rate devices which are independent of the drive.

2 Safety

Designated use: Frequency converters are intended for assembly into machinery. This machinery uses vibrations for sieving, loosening, con-veying, compacting and separating bulk material. Any other use is considered improper use.

Qualification of the personnel: Assembly, commissioning, maintenance and repair of the frequency converters must be performed only by authorized qualified personnel. Any handling of the frequency converters lies within the responsibility of the operator.

Accessories which ensure the correct operation and safety must provide a pro-tection type required for the specific use.

CAUTION

Before installation and start-up it is absolutely necessary to thoroughly and carefully read the brief instruction for the frequency converter. The operator of the system has to ensure that these instructions are strictly complied with. The failure to observe these instructions causes the rejection of any warranty claims.

The failure to observe these operating instructions also causes the rejection of any warranty claims.

DANGER

Improperly performed work or modifications to electric or mechanic pre-settings of the units may result in subsequent damages that are ex-tremely costly and lead to long machine downtimes. The warranty ex-pires and the consequences must be borne by the person responsible.

IMPORTANT

The mains voltage and the mains frequency must correspond to the nominal voltage and the nominal frequency indicated on the type label. - 15% / + 10% voltage deviation or ± 5% frequency deviation are admissible.

DANGER

Electric parts which remain energized even if the main switch is in the off position are marked with a special label.

Disregard of the especially marked areas may eventually result in danger to life or risk of injury. In these areas maintenance works must be carried out exclusively by maintenance staff which have to comply with the safety measures at any time. The operating personnel are only allowed to operate the system, i.e. they must not open the switch cabinet or work on the vibrators. In case of technical problems they have to consult the maintenance staff.

DANGER

The operator of the system has to monitor the state of the system with utmost care. Compliance with the protective measures is indispensable. Should there be any damages or faults in the system, these have to be properly repaired. The system may only be operated if all connecting lines have been com-pletely installed and there are no damages or malfunctions.

Page 29: Netter Static Adjustable Frequency Control NetterVibrotron SRF · Netter Static Adjustable Frequency Control Series SRF July 2016 No.1451E Page 1/23 These operating instructions apply

6

DANGER

When the drive is powered up, the power components and some of the control components are connected to the line supply. It is extremely dangerous to touch them even if the motor has been stopped. The drive cover must be kept closed. In general, the drive power supply must be disconnected before any operation on either the electrical or mechanical parts of the installation or machine. After the NFU has been switched off and the display has disappeared completely, wait for 10 minutes before working on the equipment. This is the time required for the capacitors to discharge. The motor can be stopped during operation by inhibiting start commands or the speed reference while the drive remains powered up. If personnel safety requires prevention of sudden restarts, this electronic locking system is not sufficient: fit a cut-off on the power circuit.

DANGER

The drive is fitted with safety devices which, in the event of a fault, can shut down the drive and consequently the motor. The motor itself may be stopped by a mechanical blockage. Finally, voltage variations, especially line supply failures, can also cause shutdowns. If the cause of the shutdown disappears, there is a risk of restarting which may endanger certain machines or installations, especially those which must conform to safety regulations. In this case the user must take precautions against the possibility of motor restart after an unforeseen shutdown, in particular by using low speed detectors which cut off power to the drive.

4 Design and Function

The frequency converters for wall mounting in the IP54 housing of the series NFU are used for speed regulation of electrical external vibrators of the series NEG / NEH. Special applications require frequencies which cannot be achieved with normal multipole external vibrators at line fre-quency. These frequency converters are charac-terized by their robust and compact design. The completely equipped units are de-signed for wall mounting.

Low-loss power electronics permit the operation at input voltages with high tol-erances. The frequency converters generate con-stant three-phase voltages with frequen-cies of 0.5 Hz to 120 Hz, thus permitting speeds of 30 to 7200 revolutions per mi-nute for a two-pole NEG / NEH. This makes it possible to easily adjust the speed. The permitted temperature range is between 0ºC and +40ºC.

5 Transport and Storage

IMPORTANT

Check the packaging for possible signs of transport damages. In the event of damage to the packaging, check that the contents are complete and undamaged. If there is any damage, inform the shipping agent.

The units are packed ready-to-install. The type label is fixed to the NFU. When transporting the NFU, it should be ensured that the device is not sub-jected to severe impacts or vibrations which might damage it.

The device should be stored in a dry and clean environment. If it is necessary to store the NFU for a longer period (up to a maximum of 2 years), the temperature in the storage room must not fall below +5°C or ex-ceed +40°C and the relative air humidity must not exceed 60%.

The vibration drives may only be moved by using the eye bolts provided for this purpose. As lifting gear the usual equipment is to be used, such as pulley block or crane. For moving loads suita-ble steel ropes or lifting slings are to be used which are sufficiently dimensioned for these weights. The vibration drives have to be handled very carefully during transports. The frequency converter and the vibra-tion drives must not be stored outdoors, because the electric components and the vibration drives are not protected against corrosion.

(1) These power ratings and currents are for a maximum ambient temperature of 40°C and a switching frequency of 4 kHz in continuous operation. The switching frequency is adjustable from 2 to 16 kHz. Above 4 kHz, the drive will reduce the switching frequency in the event of excessive temperature rise. The temperature rise is controlled by a PTC probe in the power module. Nonetheless, the nominal drive current should be derated if operation above 4 kHz needs to be continuous: Derating curves are shown on page 11 as a function of switching frequency and ambient temperature.

Wiring recommendations

Power

The drive must be earthed to conform with the regulations concerning high leakage currents (over 3.5 mA). When upstream protection by means of a "residual current device" is required by the installation standards, a type A device should be used for single phase drives and type B for 3-phase drives. Choose a suitable model incorporating: • HF current filtering• a time delay which prevents tripping caused by the load from stray capacitance on

power-up. The time delay is not possible for 30 mA devices. In this case, choosedevices with immunity against accidental tripping, for example RCDs with reinforcedimmunity from the s.i range (Merlin Gerin brand).

If the installation includes several drives, provide one "residual current device" per drive.

Keep the power cables separate from circuits in the installation with low-level signals (detectors, PLCs, measuring apparatus, video, telephone).

If you are using cables > 50 m between the drive and the motor, add output filters.

Control

Keep the control and power circuits away from the power cables. For control and speed reference circuits, we recommend using shielded twisted cables with a pitch of between 25 and 50 mm, connecting the shielding to ground at each end.

19

Electromagnetic compatibility

Principle

• Grounds between the drive, the motor and the cable shielding must have "highfrequency" equipotentiality.

• Use shielded cables with shielding connected to ground throughout 360° at bothends for the motor cables, braking resistor (if used) and control-signaling wiring.Conduit or metal ducting can be used for part of the shielding length provided thatthere is no break in continuity.

• Ensure maximum separation between the power supply cable (line supply) and themotor cable.

9 Start-up / Operation

DANGER

During start-up of the NFU the regulations and requirements of the local engineering associations resp. CENELEC members (e.g. VDE) and the known accident prevention rules have to be complied with.

CAUTION

Before installation and start-up it is absolutely necessary to thoroughly and carefully read the brief instructions for the fre-quency converter. The operator of the system has to ensure that these instructions are strictly complied with. The failure to observe these instructions causes the rejection of any warranty claims.

IMPORTANT

When operating the NFU, it has to be ensured that the EMV directive is complied with.

DANGER

Works on the switch cabinet and the electric equipment must always be performed by experts. Experts have to check the following points with the switched off system:

• Mains voltage; for standard devices of the type NFU it must be: 230/400V -15% / +10%, 50Hz / 60 Hz ± 5%.

• The cables must be undamaged and laid in compliance with the known regulations and standards (e.g. VDE, OEVE, SEV).

• Mechanical blockages (e.g. transport clamps, brakes) must have been released.

• Any faults which might have occurred have to be eliminated immediately.

• The system must be in proper electric condition.

• Protective measures for the system and grounding of devices have to be present.

• The shielded data lines (i.e. the marked lines) must be laid in a separate cable duct or tube (separately from the power cables). If this is not possible, the data lines must be installed in grounded steel pipes.

CAUTION

In case of major disturbances NetterVibration should be informed. Any kind of intervention may only be performed with our express consent. Any kind of intervention or modification to the frequency con-verter’s settings without consent of NetterVibration causes the rejection of any warranty claims.

Brief instructions for display of the frequency Checking the vibrator frequency After switching on the main switch:

1. Display shows rdY (ready) 2. push ENT button 3. Go to the SUP menu (by using the triangle arrow ) 4. Display shows SUP 5. push ENT button 6. Go to FrH (by using the triangle arrows ) 7. Display shows FrH 8. push ENT button 9. Display shows the output frequency of the NFU

CAUTION

The frequency displayed on the operating panel is the frequency of the converter. It is not the frequency of the connected vibrators.

The frequency displayed is the output frequency of the NFU.

In order to obtain the vibrator frequency the displayed frequency needs to be divided by one of the divisors shown below (1 – 4).

It depends on the connected external vibrator which of the divisors is to be used:

• NEG 50… Divisor = 1

• NEG 25… Divisor = 2

• NEG 16… Divisor = 3

• NEG 12… Divisor = 4
