2. Our file regarding the widow and the

daughter of Shri Subash Chandra Bose is placed below

and some papers have been flagged at random.

3. A cursorY glance of the file reveal the

follbwing facts in spite of the fact that certain

doubts have been raised from time to time:

a)It had been acknowledged that Frau Emilie Schenklwas the widow of Subash Chandra Bose and Anita Schenl,..1his daughter.

b)The family members of Subash Chandra Bose had also

accepted this.

c)Anita Bose visited India in 1960 and was stayingin the Prime Minister's House for some time.

MAICC had been sending hs.6000/- per xx annum toNetajil s daughter upto 1364; this was stopped in l965

when she got married.

'e)Netajils wife did not want any money.

f)Anita married Mr Martin Pfaff, an American national.

4. If approved, we may convey these facts to

the Ministry of Uwe Affairs.

I n thecourse o f my enquiry, ev idence was p rceuced t o sh ow thatdur ing h is s tay i n Germany , Netaj i marr ied his Pr ivateSecretary, F rau Emil ie Schenkl , and a daughter was born

t o h im. Ev idence was also p roduced t o p rove that Netaj i 'smarr iage was accepted by the m em b er s o f his fami ly and.some o f t he m ne t Mrs. Bose an d Netaj i 's daughter , Nita,i n V ienna. Later , i n 1960 , N i ta v i s i t ed India and waswelcomed by Neta j i 's family. One p iece o f ev idence p roduceda t the enquiry was f i l e No."2(67)/56-71-PM. Let ters wr i t tenby Neta j i ' s re la t ives were read out f rom th is f i l e a t p ike.publ ic e n qu i r y h el d by m e. I n the course o f my repor tsubmit ted t o the Government i n June 1974, I d i scussed thematter o f Netaj i 's marr iage on pages 5 1 and 52 .

As Neta j i ' s d i sappearance an d the mystery surroundinghis s tay i n G er m a ny were mat ters o f great publ ic i n te res t ,a t the request o f T ho mso n P ress ( India) Limited, I wrote abook, 'Last Days o f N e t a j i ' . I n this book I re i terated thestatement that Netaj i ha d marr ied F rau Emi l ie Scheek l an dhad ,a dauchter , Ni ta, by her . I n saying this I was merelyrepeating someth ing that ha d been g iven w ide publ ic i ty i n ,severa l newspape rs many years ea r l i e r . 1 .

Shri Dwi jendra N a t h R o se , a nephew o f Netaj i , however ,took s t rong except ion t o my s tatement and f i l ed a de fama-t ion case under Sect ion son/5n1 TOG i n the Cour t o f aMacisterate i n Calcutta. The case was against me and thepubl ishers o f the book M/s . Thomson Press. I n order t o

Reference enclosed copy of letter dated 1-9-79 and

of its enclosures, from Shri T.N.Singh, Governor of WestjEengal, addressed to the Bbme Secretary, regarding establi-

shment of identity of Nrs. ANITA F.F 13-T (daughter of Netaji

Subhash Chandra Bose).

2. This Ninistry have no records pertaining to Netaji's

,reported marriage to a foreign lady or birth of a female

child by that marriage. Intelligence Bureau has also been

consulted and they have no record in this regard. Before

sending a reply to the Governor on the above lines, thisinistry Yould like to be sure whether at any stage the

then Prime Ninister's Secretariat (now Prime Einister's

k Office) or the Ninistrv of External ffairs or the Cabinet

\Secretariat (R.A.W.) have been aware of visit to India ofEiss Anita in 1960 and information supplied in this connection

or if there are anv papers to indicate Netajils reported

marziage to a foreign lady and birth of a female child by

that marriage. We shall be grateful to have an urgent reply

To the best of my recollection, Sardar Patel in

his life time came to 'know of a daughter born to Netaji

Suba.sh Chancier E-ose in Germany as a result of marriage

with a foreidn girl. There must be some record in the

Home i:inistry as some money was remitted to her for her

education and maintenance. One Srat. Anita Pfaff came here and

met me. She was introduced to me by Dr. Sisir Bose as thedaughter o f Netaji. I had no reason to disbelieve him. Now

I have received a letter from one Shri A.run Gipse which

causes doubts on the whole -position. I hope it should be

i:ossible to trace from the records of the Home Einistry about

the real facts. I am enclosing a copy of the letter which gives

details in this regard.

I came to learn from the Calcutta dailies that you

have cordially received Nrs. Anita Pfaff, the so c alled

daughter of Netaji Bose. You have been miscarried by cheap

sentiment, because you do, not hnow the back -ground of this

canard as well as the character of Bose family of the day.

You are a freedom fighter and I being an executive

member of All India Freedom Fighter's Samity (Regd.) it is my

duty to bring you into light to establish the truth. The said

- girl is a posthumous child of one Co.Erizette of the then Asix

Power. her mother Lrs. Erizette died after a few months of

delivery. Liss Emdie Shenkle was intimate friend and close

-door neighbour to this Erizette fami ly and sh e took up the

orphan as adotped daughter. A conspiracy duly hatched up by

the Allies in Colaboration with Pro -British Congressmen to

assasin the thus character of ardent bachelor Netaji Bose.

For your personal satisfaction I will request you to

collect the dfficial data of Irs. Anita and her real identy

in the decade of sixties when she was brought to India by Nr.

Ilehru, the then P.1. of India, for the first time. What 1.v.s in

.her passport and visa papers ? just encuire from the 'lame Deptt.

and External Afairs 1A.nistrv. Also you should contact the

Austrian authority to :now whether any such ccirl did go through

any sdkol or University of Vienna or Austria whose father's

name was Sri Subhas Chandra Dose. Don't be misguided by any

member of so called Dose Family of the day. I was deeply

connected with senior members of Pose family of the past .
