The Central Nervous System

• Where is it?

• What does it do?

Page 3: Nervous system of the shark

Where is the Nervous system?

• There system is up and down the brain, spine, and all over the body nerves

• The nerves on the body tells the shark what to do.

THE BRAIN!

• The Brian is made up of three major anatomical regions: The forebrain, midbrain, and the hindbrain.

Page 6: Nervous system of the shark

What is a spinal cord?

• The spinal nerves are grouped into bundles.

• The spinal cord is about 16.9 and 17.7 inches on average

• The brain and the spinal cord make up the center nervous system

Where is the spinal cord

• The spinal cord is a long column of neural tissue that starts from the base of the brain.

• The spinal cord runs down the center of the protective spinal column and if extends form the neck down to the lower back.

PERIPHERAL?

• What groups do they have?

• What do they do?

Page 9: Nervous system of the shark

Peripheral

• The peripheral system does not include the brain and spinal cord

• Made up of three main nerve groups the sensory nerve, the motor nerve, and the autonomic nerves

Page 10: Nervous system of the shark

Extra nerves.

• Chemoreceptor can sense chemicals

• Photoreceptor can sense light and they are found in the retinas of your eyes

• Nocicepters are free nerves endings that can sense pain.

Page 11: Nervous system of the shark

Motor Nerves

• Motor nerves: nerves carrying messages to muscles form the brain to the spinal cord.

• Motor nerves are involved in reflex action and voluntary muscular control.

• Motor neuron disease is a degeneration of the nerve witch causes muscle loss.

Page 12: Nervous system of the shark

Sensory nerves

• the sensory nerves transmit impulses inwards from the sense organs to the central nervous system which includes the spinal cord and the brain. This keeps the brain informed of what is happening to and inside the body through the receptors.

Questions/Quiz

• Where is one of the main parts of the nervous system is...B. brain

• The nerves and nervous system will get info of what's happening inside and_____.

• A. outside
