The role that the Nervous system plays is extremely important because it carry`s the messages from the brain to all parts of the body. This is what allows us to move. Nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord.

Role the Nervous system

Page 4: Nervous system

The major parts of the Nervous system are the spinal cord and the brain.

Your spinal cord is a long white bundle of nerves that is connected to your brain. There are two main types of nerves that make up the spinal cord; sensory nerves and motor nerves

Major organs in the nervous system

The brain is an essential part of your survival. Nerves reach from your brain to your face, eyes, ears, nose, and spinal cord, which controls movement and all senses.

The Brain

Page 6: Nervous system

The organs in the nervous system work together by sending messages and triggers through the body to help with movement. The brain sends out these signals to the spinal cord and the body responds accordingly.

When a part of your body makes contact with something excessively hot or cold, you immediately withdraw your hand. This happens because, heat and pain receptors in the skin sent messages to the spinal cord, which were transferred to motor neurons that eventually connected to whichever part of your body that’s being effected from touching hot or cold.

The nervous system is connected to the skeletal system because the nervous system sends signals to the spinal chord, which is one of the many bones in the skeletal system.

How is the nervous system connected to other body systems?

Page 9: Nervous system

The nervous system is also connected to the muscular system because when the brain informs the spinal system to move in a certain way, the muscle system is partially in charge of those movements. When the muscles contract, they move the skeletal system, which is a major part of the nervous system.

Page 10: Nervous system

The brain is composed of several different types of tissues, like all organs. One type of tissue that the brain consists of is nerve tissue. Nerve tissue is made up of neurons (nerve cells)

Neuroscientist A neuroscientist is a neurobiologist

(someone that works with the nervous system) that works with brains.

Neurosurgeon Someone that does surgery on the nervous

system (especially the brain).

Name two disorders that affect the nervous system

Ataxia Is a disorder that makes you have less coordination.

Epilepsy Is a condition in the brain that makes people more prone to having seizures.

Eat a well-balanced diet and drink lots of water and other liquids. Don’t use cigarettes or other tobacco products.

How to maintain a healthy nervous system

Page 14: Nervous system

One- the brain stems job is to take care of the things we don’t think about, but are crucial to our survival, such as breathing or our heart rate.

Two- The spinal cord runs from the brain down to just below the ribs.

Three- If there is no blood flow, then there is no oxygen and that part of your brain can actually die.

Four-The weight of the human brain is about 3 lbs. Five- The spinal cord is the body's main nerve trunk.- It is

about 18 inches long.
