● Nepal Healthcare Equipment Development Foundation (NHEDF) ● Not-for-profit organization ● Established by biomedical engineers, doctors, nurses and social
workers ● Aims to provide quality healthcare services and thus save lives and
prevent permanent disability through appropriate care including provision of necessary biomedical equipments

● Quake-victims discharged immediately after treatment from KTM hospitals; even the most critical ones; helpless and homeless
● Long- term medical treatment and patient recovery is a major and growing concern for earthquake response community – estimated 18000 disabled
● There has been massive support provided by ordinary Nepalis ; more continues to be needed to rebuild and help patients heal.

● Our solution provides patients with sustainable medical facilities, food, 24/7 nursing, on-call doctors and volunteers for regular follow-up for patients needing long- term hospital care cannot afford to stay in hospitals
6/23/2015 4
● Step down facility that also employs family members of patients as non-medical support
● Helps support family as long as the patient is under NHEDF care ● Families have very few work options
6/23/2015 5
● Our step-down facility model can be scaled up near hospitals in earthquake affected areas reaching those still in need.
6/23/2015 6
● NHEDF supports a stronger health system by offering Care Attendant training to family members, physiotherapy services, lab services and other medical services which earthquake survivors struggle to access.
6/23/2015 7
• NHEDF addressed this problem; converted its office to medical shelter and step-down facility
• NHEDF has been active aiding the helpless and homeless and moving to responding to changing patient needs
• To our knowledge, NHEDF is the only non-government funded shelter providing step-down facilities; International organizations like HI and International Organization for Migration (IOM) rely on us to provide quality facilities for the patients they send to us – the demand for our services is there and growing!
