NEONWEB- A Virtual Canvas! What is digital art?

As Wikipedia defines it, Digital Art is an artistic work or practice that uses digital

technology as an essential part of the creative or presentation process. It can be purely

computer-generated or taken from other sources, such as a scanned photograph. Though

technically the term may be applied to art done using other media or processes and merely

scanned in, it is usually reserved for art that has been non-trivially modified by a computing.

It can take various forms:

• Illustration – vector drawings

• Digital photo manipulation

• Digital painting

• 3D modeling

• Web site design

• Computer generated images

• Animation

It has been indefinitely argued that digital art is not real art since it is computer generated and there are infinite copies and there is no ‘original’.

Art is self-expression. It is like a creative abstraction of reality meant to convey some sort of message to some sort of an audience. Whatever tools you use to render that abstraction, however you choose to convey that abstraction, and whomever you choose to direct that abstraction does not conflict with the definition of art.

Art media have evolved over centuries, new, more flexible media replacing older, less flexible ones. Today our world runs on computers and, naturally, software and programming are the most advanced art media available to the contemporary artist.

The Quintessential Question: Is Digital Art really art?

In most people’s minds, there seems to be a certain degree of bias when it comes to digital art vs traditional art. The problem lies in the fact that they completely misunderstand the medium of art. It seems to arise from our conventional mental picture of what an artist is, with a canvas, palate and a paintbrush! The ultra-creative person is surrounded by his tools and amalgamating all the messy and disjointed components into something that beholds us. We

see the artist as someone that spends intensive labor and is physically laboring on his art as well as mentally.

When you think of digital artist, what comes to mind? For most people it is probably this: A guy sitting in front of a computer lazily working with fancy software that we can not afford and he can easily undo or correct his mistakes with a push of a button.

But the world of digitised arts goes far beyond this! Digital Art brings together Art, Technology, Math and Science. It requires a creative spirit and the knowledge of art, design and computers.

To popularize the Digital Arts and to empower the digital artists, NeonMob was developed. It is looking to change the way we perceive digital art with a platform dedicated to digital art collectibles.

The company offers tools to creators to build out a collection of and then users can pay to collect those works. NeonMob has set up an authentication program to ensure that each piece of art collected on the platform is the user’s work, also the ownership is verified both on and off the NeonWeb platform.

NeonMob offers a compelling platform to artists, who receive up to 70 percent of every sale that happens on NeonMob, The artist himself decides the price of each of his art and the quantity to be sold. NeonMob has the opportunity to keep costs low without ever building or distributing a physical product. In short, artists can actually make liveable money off of their work.

But at the same time, convincing users they want to spend money on collecting digital art may be a tough sell.

“We have all different types of art that appeal to different people,” said Duca. “Everyone appreciates art even if they don’t consider themselves a collector, and when we delight people with a fun user experience, we find that they get more excited about the idea of collecting the art that they enjoy. We’re trying to show people that collecting online can be just as satisfying and or more satisfying than offline collecting.”
