NELBA NOTES, September - October 2012 3
July MeetingsTransition Team: It was noted that the Transition Team consists of Vicky Weber, Chad Douglas, Chief Russ Rakestraw, Kim Dodson, Leslie Underwood, Carolyn Pfister, Dave Eggleston, Linda Rudloff and Michael Tigue.
At the July transition meeting (7/19/12), it was determined that Louisville East Chamber of Commerce would be the name of the new organization. Carolyn Neal Pfister would be the Executive Director of the new organization and committee structures were decided. There was a motion to use LABA’s bylaws as a guide in creating the new bylaws. John Blackford motioned to approve, Chad Douglas seconded. All were in favor.
Committee Structure: All Board members will serve on a committee. The committees will need to meet within the first two weeks of August, with the first initial meeting scheduled by Carolyn, and meet every month moving forward. At the initial committee meeting, a chair needs to be determined. At this time in the transition, the Budget & Finance Committee is critical. Those board members that have not been assigned a committee will be, moving forward.
Board Structure: It was decided that an Executive committee would be nominated and would consist of a Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. The Board will stay as is, with a full merger of all three Boards’. Vicky proposed that in the future, the board consist of 12 members with a maximum of 18, including the Chair, Chair Elect, Secretary/Treasurer.
August Luncheon: It was determined that the August Luncheon would be a joint luncheon with NELBA at the University Club and we will discuss committees in detail to the membership following the speaker.
Roundtable: Add bullet points on the website regarding merger for the membership to view. Be consistent with all organizations until merger is in effect. When we launch new organization, we need to think big. We must stand out to make our mark. NELBA has a graphic designer who is member that has agreed to tackle the new logo and image.
The new organization should push for advocacy and education. Business Advocacy Committee was added to the committee structure, with Michael Tigue volunteering to Chair that committee.
We should pursue support funding through our local Metro Government Council Representatives.

It’s time for the NELBA Board of Directors Election
One important aspect of the NELBA Annual Membership Meeting in September - besides the great speaker, fabulous food and superb networking - is the election of the members of the NELBA Board of Directors. Elected directors serve a two-year term. We will evaluate any changes to this as we discuss merger with our neighboring organizations, LABA and Middletown. Directors’ duties include attending monthly lunch board meetings on the first Wednesday of every month and chairing or participating in at least one standing committee. The returning members are: Chad Douglas, New York Life, President; Leslie Underwood, VP, Commonwealth Bank & Trust; Ellen Wade, Sec’y, TJ Unitarian Church, Lisa Montgomery, Mary Kay, Inc., Rob Watson, McBrayer, McGinnis, Leslie & Kirk, PLLC, and Doug McPherson, LikesLocal. We thank retiring member Charlotte Buster, Retired Business owner.
The slate of nominees is:
Linda Rudloff – Renewing Director
Linda is the Financial Center Manager for the St Matthews Branch and the Riverfront Branch of Your Community Bank with twenty three years of banking experience. The other two branches are located in Eastpoint off Old Henry Road and
Riverfront on Main Street. Linda specializes in consumer and small business banking.. She serves as the treasurer of NELBA, has been in charge of the NELBA Banner Program and has been an active member of The Holiday Taste committee since joining the association.
Linda does Jazzercise for exercise and fun and loves traveling to Portland, Oregon to visit her two grandsons.
Stacey Rothballer - Renewing Director
Born and raised in Paramus, New Jersey, Stacey’s a true (east coast girl) “Jersey Girl”. She holds a degree in both Business Management and Marketing from Johnson & Wales University. Stacey and her husband
Bill have been Louisville residents for over 17 years. She and Bill currently live in PeWee Valley, with their two children. An outgoing and sociable person, Stacey
enjoys being an active and productive member of the community.
After 20 + years in the banking industry, Stacey decided to make a career change and do something she truly loves. In 2010, Stacey started her own business and is a Long Term Care Insurance Specialist. She continues to educate and inform people, but Stacey is always up for a challenge. Stacey is also the Business Director for Magnolia Springs East that will open in October 2012. Stacey is involved with the American Heart Association and NELBA. As a NELBA board member, she takes an assertive role in assisting NELBA reach its full potential. Stacey has chaired the Program Committee as well as the Holiday Taste Committee for the last few years. Always striving for the next challenge, Stacey hopes to continue her service as a NELBA board member.
Billy Garland, New Board Nominee
Billy S. Garland, originally from North Georgia, now calls Louisville home. After successfully graduating from the University of Louisville in 2011, meeting his beautiful wife and beginning a career in this city is truly proud to call himself a
Louisvillian.
Billy began serving as the sales and marketing manager for Buca Di Beppo on Hurstbourne near the end of September 2011. Since then he has seen true growth within his company, but also within himself since becoming an active member of NELBA
Billy has been involved in multiple NELBA events and currently serves on the Golf Scramble Committee. He is tremendously excited to have the opportunity to serve as a new member of the NELBA Board, and looks very much forward to dedicating himself to enhancing the marketing/branding of the organization once his position becomes more solidified.

Our September Annual Dinner Keynote Speaker
Thursday, September 20th 5:30am-7:30pm
Keynote Speaker: Doug Proffitt, WHAS News Anchor
Doug Proffitt anchors the 5, 5:30, 6 p.m., and 10 and 11 p.m. news each weeknight. Doug has covered every major story in that time frame, which includes The Carrollton Bus Crash, Standard Gravure shooting, The Presidential nomination of Bill Clinton in New York (1992), The Winter Storm of 1994, Hurricane Fran (1996), the Flooding of 1997.
A few years ago, after a weeklong series of his reports,

What’s New In NELBA
FIRSTLIGHT LIGHT HOMECARE OF LOUISVILLE announces a new Alzheimer’s /Dementia care program that consists of a pool of selected caregivers that will go through a rigorous training program that features on-line classes, videos, The Who I am program, “A Personalized Engaging Approach to Alzheimer’s/dementia Care” and something very unique to Louisville a day of hands on training at a local Alzheimer’s/dementia care facility that allows the caregiver to become a FirstLight Certified Dementia Caregiver. FirstLight HomeCare is a non-medical agency that provides first-class personal service for our clients so that they may enjoy warmth, independence and relaxed comfort in their own home or any setting. For more information call 502.632.0448 or visit www.firstlighthomecare.com.
THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION has established an Aid and Attendance or Housebound Pension Benefit Program that may assist veterans in the purchase of personal care services in their community. This program allows eligible veterans and surviving spouse’s access to a VA pension benefit so that these individuals can pay for quality personal care.
If you are a veteran, or the surviving spouse of a veteran,
you may be eligible for the Veterans Care Program, a federally funded pension plan designed to help pay for the in-home care of qualifying veterans or their surviving spouses.
The first question to answer is…..Did you or your spouse serve 90 consecutive days of active duty and was at least one of those days during a U.S. declared war? If you answered “Yes,” then it makes sense for you to continue the questioning and see if you meet the remaining criteria. The final outcome will depend on:
• Your financial assets • An assessment of your physical condition and claimant • Your marital status…and • Your gross income and medical bills
FirstLight HomeCare will be honored to provide you and other veterans you may know, with the information and support you need to fully understand the Veterans Care Program benefits you may qualify for.
Call Jennifer Welscher of FirstLight HomeCare of Louisville at 502.632.0448 and she will be happy to provide answers to your questions.
