ADVANCED DISTRIBUTED CONTENT MANAGEMENT WITHOUT THE COST

Modern teaching technologies demand the instant transfer of knowledge to multiple audiences and depend on networks of communication.

With NEC, dynamically-driven content can be targeted to specific groups of people. This means that important meetings, appointments, directions, general information and importantly, site alarm information can be communicated using our large format displays and projectors to a target audience at scheduled or managed times. Whether in foyers, libraries, reading rooms, cafeterias or training areas, we have the perfect display solution from a range of over 100 products.

Using the complimentary Image Express Utility (IEU) software as well as the PC control utility, installed projectors or displays can be centrally controlled over the network and their status checked. Furthermore, it’s also possible to transfer presentation files and display them on all available networked projectors and PC screens. Various moderator modes allow, as appropriate, networked participants to be connected into the presentations or teaching materials.

In Training mode, the networked student/pupil participants can be switched into Live mode by the instructor, so as to actively take part in a presentation or exchange information with one another using Chat mode. Meeting mode allows every participant to become an individual presenter, and also has a function that creates “meeting reports” in the form of screenshots or short notes. These can be called up again at any time on any of the PCs. This powerful, highly motivating experience, has been developed to deliver more effective teaching without an extra price tag.

THE VISUAL FUTURE WITH NEC

Page 5: NEC Display Solutions EDUCATION DISPLAY SOLUTIONS

3D is being pioneered in many schools around Europe and has quickly emerged as an ideal format for break out sessions that replace traditional hands on sessions. With 3D the viewer’s can grasp a subject as if they touch it and enjoy the process more with the ability to create and deliver a complete experience and not simply a dimensional view of the subject.

For instance in Biology explaining the process of cell division with a 3D re-enactment is so much more rewarding than paging through two dimensional text books and diagrams.

3D THE BENEFITS

GREATER REALITYWith easier visual understanding of an object’s dimensional characteristics, objects no longer appear a fixed distance away, but distances appear between them, with the viewer perceiving themselves as physically amongst the displayed content.

GREATER ATTENTION3D is interesting and captivating, it is new and inspiring, in particular Education audiences find the learning experience more inspirational, more enjoyable and therefore more memorable.

GREATER EFFICIENCYIn a similar time to conventional filming, 3D passes considerably more information to the viewer in a simple to grasp manner, it therefore effortlessly accelerates learning without making the experience more trying.

INCREASED EMOTIONWhether it is interest, admiration, attraction, curiosity, or fear or awe, high quality 3D media powered by the latest 3D projection systems adds to the emotional experience to the extent that conventional viewing can seem comparatively unrewarding.

POPULAR APPLICATIONS OF 3D IN EDUCATION

Ideal applications include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Anatomy, Geography, Mathematics, Engineering, Architecture and the Arts. NEC 3D ready value and ultra short throw projectors together with a NEC 3D Starter Kit represent the ideal introduction to 3D for the classroom. A simple, low cost PC based solution that includes the projector, viewing glasses, 3D player and other 3D media. Working together with Texas Instruments, NEC are piloting 3D installations into educational establishments across Europe.

DLP® LINK 3D PROJECTION

This 3D Solution is the ideal introduction to 3D with low cost powerful single projection and when combined with the NEC 3D Starter Kit, is everything you need to enjoy 3D out of the box. DLP® Link Glasses are interchangeable between DLP® Link projectors.

The benefits of DLP® Link for 3D projection include easy installation (no stacking of two projectors necessary), no special screen, and no special filters or signal emitter. DLP® Link delivers 3D from one projector rather than the more expensive traditional 2 projector method. With DLP® Link technology, a single projector produces the images for both eyes. The impression of 3D is created by the interaction with the active LCD shutter glasses. This solution is cheaper and more user-friendly than traditional 3D stereo-projection.

The Ultra Short Throw Projection concept places the projector so close to the board that the path of the light from the lens to the image is guided so as not to cross the traditional space used by the teacher or presenter during presentation. This means that the presenter’s shadow is not cast on the displayed image and the presenter is not also disturbed by the glare from the lens, which in traditional set ups is placed directly to his front.

Despite its space saving format, the U Series delivers uncompromising image quality with ‘BrilliantColorTM’ colour replication, various automated or manual image adjustment and compensation features, with advanced connectivity including HDMI and control by LAN, and includes an integrated speaker and all housed in an attractive cabinet ideal for even the most stylish rooms with a tidy cable.

IDEAL FOR INFANT OR WHEELCHAIR USER PARTICIPATIONHEIGHT ADJUSTABLE BOARDS

For Education customers an optional height adjustable whiteboard can make the U Series perfect for infant or wheelchair user participation. Options available are both motorised and light weight manual with a total adjustment height as large as 50cm between raised and lowered positions.

M SERIES | ECO PERFORMANCE

THE MULTI-PURPOSE M SERIES

With an impressive range of standard, wide and short throw models and brightness levels, suitable for a wide range of classroom environments, All M Series projectors incorporate new NEC innovations such as 75% AV Mute and longer lamp life support as well as all the advanced connectivity and functionality you can expect for today and tomorrow.

The entry level M260X is particularly suited to smaller classrooms and small to medium sized meeting rooms, whilst the high brightness M420X with it’s 4200 ANSI Lumen output is ideal for even mid to large size lecture halls. The wide models are ideal for displaying wider Powerpoint presentations and today’s video media in its native format and the short throw models provide a flexible value short throw solution with virtually no glare and shadow, ideal for classroom environments.

USER CENTRIC DESIGN

At the heart of the M Series concept is flexibility and we have taken major steps to bring the control of the projector completely within the hands of the presenter whether working via a connected notebook, a local area network or even an installed USB device. This user centric approach is also applied to the intuitive remote and clear easily accessible surface control button arrangement and eco innovations such as 75% AV Mute that can be operated with a simple slide of the front cover or pressing the convenient AV Mute button.

Features such as front ventilation to direct heat output away from attendees, Direct Power On (AC & Computer input) capability, Auto vertical keystone function, 27 OSD languages, an on screen connection guide if no signal is received, USB display function for future-proof connectivity, Viewer function for PC-less presentation and remote mouse function for presenting with projector remote all help assured faster more focussed presentation without setup issues.

AFFORDABLE BUT UNCOMPROMISING ECO CLASSROOM PROJECTION

The NP216 Series is a competitive entry level SVGA and XGA Range of DLP projectors designed for low budget classroom installations as well as for portable usage where quality is still demanded. The network capability of the NP216 and the integrated speaker makes them also very suitable for education. They offer an excellent price/performance ratio, advanced eco-friendly features and very low cost of ownership due to low power consumption and up to 5000 hours lamp life.

Suitable for average sized meeting and class rooms with normal lightning conditions. Using Eco mode reduces power consumption and increases lamp life.

VALUE | PROJECTOR RANGES

UP TO 20,000 ANSI LUMEN PROJECTION SOLUTIONS

SINGLE INSTALLATION PROJECTOR APPLICATIONS

NEC Installation Projectors deliver outstanding performance in heavier duty environments that require higher brightness. Models are available include standard XGA models and WXGA for playing back the latest media in its native format. Individual brightness is as high as 5000 ANSI Lumen.

PROJECTOR STACKING SOLUTIONS

Stacking is a low cost, flexible way to achieve up to 20,000 ANSI Lumen from our standard projectors. It involves placing up to four projectors across for instance, an auditorium, so that brightness can be multiplied and redundancy is achieved in the event that one projector is not operating.

With stacking, as the projectors are ordinarily spaced out horizontally, the on-screen image isn’t blocked when the presenter walks past the front of the screen as the unblocked projectors still can project their image filling up to 75% brightness in the shadowed area.

In addition NEC has created simple to use but powerful Stacking Correction software so that you can quickly and easily achieve a perfect set-up. A stacking configuration is easy because of the Geometric Correction Processing built into the projectors, the camera for the processing and the newly developed dedicated software when installing the projector. Since the adjustment data will be stored in the projector, the PC and the camera are no longer required after initial setup.

NEC Stacking Solutions operate with differing ANSI Lumen Projectors. So NP2250 units can for example be combined with NP3250 units. Projectors can also be temporarily removed and used individually and a stacking solution can still work when one projector fails.

MORE THAN AN ECO LABEL

NEC is committed to where possible gaining the independent TCO Certification for our projectors, so our customers can receive independent and measured evaluation before making a purchase. TCO Certified goes beyond green by combining features such as high performance and ergonomic design with one of the toughest environmental requirements on the market. TCO Certified makes it easy to choose equipment that is designed for the benefit of both the user and the environment. TCO CERTIFIED PROJECTORS

A TCO-labelled projector is certified to reproduce excellent images to a maximum projected image size, the TCO Image Size. In addition, the projector complies with stringent environmental requirements such as low energy consumption and minimal levels of environmentally hazardous substances.

There is also an ‘ECO mode’ requirement so the projector can be set to lower luminosities, thus reducing noise, energy consumption and increasing the life of the bulb. The label also requires manufacturers to prove they are working pro-actively on environmental improvements to the production process and social responsibility issues.

NEC PROJECTOR TCO CERTIFICATION

As a manufacturer, NEC are committed to TCO Certification where practicable throughout our projector ranges in the same way that we are committed to TCO Certification for our desktop display ranges.

THE EX SERIES HUMAN SENSOR

This innovative energy saving feature recognises a student’s presence and powers the display down to a standby mode when they leave and re-powers the display when they return.

This means that displays automatically power down during class break out sessions and when the class ends, delivering real operational savings with nonoticeable loss of performance.

Page 14: NEC Display Solutions EDUCATION DISPLAY SOLUTIONS

NEC have made a commitment to sustainable and responsible policies for over a decade. The NEC ‘Green Vision’ initiative concentrates on delivering better productivity with increased sustainability in terms of product performance and reduced impact on the environment. We continually strive for improvement, by developing ECO Solutions that are simple to operate, offer real savings to the user and the environment and do not compromise performance.

ECO INNOVATION IN PROJECTION

Since our introduction of ECO Modes to our projectors, the concept has been widely accepted by the industry, but during 2010/2011 we are releasing new ECO features to our projectors which are both simple to operate and capable of generating major savings.

PROJECTION DYNAMIC ECO MODEIn addition to ECO Mode and the new ECO Mode 2, a new innovation is Dynamic ECO Mode that adjusts lamp brightness where power is not required by content displayed.

DESKTOP DISPLAYS WITH WHITE LED BACKLIGHT

The LED Backlight not only offers improved performance, but also draws less power and most importantly it replaces CCFL backlighting and is therefore free from Mercury and Halogen, significantly reducing any harm to the environment associated with this display.

1 2 3

ECO INNOVATION IN DESKTOP DISPLAYS

With the launch of the EA Series, NEC paved the way for the adoption of displays that allow the user to manage their environmental impact, this initiative has been continued with the implementation, where possible of ECO Modes, Carbon Meters and Sensors into our new display products. With the latest LED backlight technology the EX231W operates on a very low power consumption level, while we also eliminate hazardous substances like mercury in the backlights. Sustainability is at the heart of the product concept with human, luminance and ambient light sensors, to detect changes in light and the presence of a viewer, so the display constantly adjusts to the power level needed and no more.

Due to the extremely light and thin concept and packaging innovation, we use less materials in production of the display itself and in it’s transportation. There is less ‘difficult to dispose of’ waste, less consumption and we can ship 100 EX Series displays using the same resource as was previously required to ship 60 displays.

DESKTOP DISPLAY ECO SENSORSFeatures such as the Ambient Light Sensor and the Human Sensor which powers the display down to stand by when the user leaves their seat and re-powers the display on their return, actively reduce costs of operation and costs to the environment.

ECO INNOVATION IN SIGNAGE SOLUTIONS

Larger screens are generally run for longer durations and also require greater power to reproduce an image especially where they are placed in bright environments.

Our ECO Innovations, targeted at reducing power draw when it is not required. Ambient light sensing, which is incorporated into most of our large format models, works with a sensor on the front of the display that detects the ambient light conditions and where possible lowers the brightness so the screen image is still clearly visible but less bright.

In-built ‘ECO schedulers’ allow the operator to define when the display should be on and off, or operate in an ECO mode or at lower brightness. The user can also at any time select ECO mode reducing the power use until reset and carbon savings can also be read, via the in-built carbon meter accessible in the OSD.
