Fiji Hub Achievement Report February 2014 GVI provides crucial renovations to Navunisea District School GVI puts the finishing touches to classes 5 & 8 When GVI arrived at Navunisea District School in 2013 the school compound was looking worn out and in need of significant repair. The paintwork in the classrooms was tired and worn, many of the black boards were broken, there was a lack of chairs for children to sit on and the access to class 7 was considered hazardous. With the help of GVI Charitable Trust donations and some volunteer elbow grease, the school has undergone a revamp as part of GVI’s longterm objectives to improve the school environment and facilities. In December 2013 GVI repainted classes 3&4, teachers and students said it was remarkable how a fresh coat of paint lifted the atmosphere of the learning environment. When GVI returned to Navunisea in January it was clear that the school had suffered further damage due to severe weather. GVI set out to provide the needed renovations in time for the new academic year. Classrooms 5 & 8 were first on the list. These classrooms also act as the school hall and had seen the most wear and tear. Over a week GVI volunteers transformed the dark and dull classrooms and into bright, fun spaces for the pupils to learn in.
