Ii restores the flow of energy. I have come to believe that it as an effective way for "Chitta Shuddhi" - transliterated in En- glish as purification of the mind. Practice of Reiki therefore clears the mind of impurity and makes ,your life happy and blissful," Ajit Telang, a well known Reiki Mas- ter observed during a talk with this paper last week. Telang, who is a spiritual prac- titioner of Reiki, became a full time devotee in 2002 and has since been teaching this benefi;: cial science for resolution of con- - flicts and stress management. Initially he said he was drawn to Reiki when he observed a friend who seemed always happy, alert and cheerful, never showing any , signs of stress or fatigue. Out of curiosity Telang asked the cause of his friend's ever-joyful dispo- sition and was told he was regu- larly practicing Reiki. _ Telang wanted to begin the learning of Reiki, but it did not happen. When yet another event closely related to him oc- curred in the death of his 80-year old aunt, who was suffering from an incurably painful disease, his decision was reinforced. Know- ing the history of her ailment, he asked his relative whether her end was painful. The reply startled him as he was told that his aunt had a perfectly peaceful and painless death. Telang real-_ ized later that she was practicing Reiki. He did not delay thereaf- ter and began learning it. As a person exposed to other eastern traditions of Yoga, Tantra, Ayurveda etc., Telang said that Reiki may well be called - as "Chetna Tantra" or science of positive energy. The roots of Reiki could be traced to Atharva Veda, one of the four Vedic Samhitas sacred to Hindus and the earliest work known to man. Master Telang said that many positive results of Reiki had been documented, including re- laxation, increased immunity, re- duced heart rate, improved blood pressure, reduced pain and re- lief from anxiety and depression. Telang has been conducting training sessions regularly for corporate groups and individu- als on spirituality and its appli- cations in day-to-day life. He has visited many countries including Switzerland, Germany, UK, USA and Singapore. He has also been teaching Spiritual Outlook for Management - Enterprises (SOME), a program designed by him. This program is designed to teach stress and conflict, man- agement to small and medium corporate staff. More than 15000 participants have undergone training in Reiki and nearly 1000 in SOME sessions. The name Reiki comes from the- Japanese pronunCiation of two Chinese characters that are said to describe the energy itself, rei' (meaning 'soul') ki (meaning 'life force) akin to Pranayam. Master Telang, however, says that Reiki is comparatively less in vogue in Japan, being more popular elsewhere. Reiki has been gaining popularity world- wide within hospitals Comparing Reiki to "Rudra", the Vedic God of Energy, Telang invited the community members to attend the Rudra Yajna to be held at Manav Seva Mandir on June 18. He said 24 hour Akhand Datta Yagawill also be performed at Manav Seva Mandir from Thursday 9 am to Friday 12 noon. A month long Reiki Seminars are scheduled at Manav Seva Mandir, Bensenville.
