He has attended the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, the Higher Command Course in Mhow and the National Defence College Course in New Delhi. He has been a Company Commander in counter insurgency environment in Nagaland and in the Siachen Glacier. He has commanded a Special Forces Battalion in the intense counter terrorism environment of the Valley Sector in Kashmir and also in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. He has commanded a Mountain Brigade & an Infantry Division on the Line of Control. The General Officer has tenanted the appointments of General Staff Officer (Operations) in Sector Headquarters Rashtriya Rifles. He has had two tenures each in Military Operation Directorate and Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff. Besides, he has been an Instructor at the Commando School and Indian Military Training Team. An alumnus of the National Cadet Corps, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, AVSM, VSM has now taken over the reins of National Cadet Corps – The premier youth organization of the country, as its 34th Director General on 27 Sep 2021.

The organisation provides an ideal platform for you to showcase your potential in
nation-building, NCC promotes the spirit of Secularism and United India by
organizing NIC (National Integration Camp) all over the country. It also allows
you to serve as an Indian Ambassador in a foreign country through the Youth
Exchange Programme (YEP). Republic Day Parade camp (RDC) and All
India Thal Sainik Camp (AlTSC) are one of the most prestigious and biggest
camps In NCC across the nation, as it provides ample opportunities for cadets
for their integrated personality development. NCC cadets are given the
opportunity to participate in a host of Adventure Activities such as Trekking,
Para Sailing , Para-Slithering , Para-Basic etc. NCC is a Reputed body which
holds the ground as the second line of defence. In India, since its Inception, many
youngsters are trained for basic military assistance in case of any National
emergency. It also provides young aspirants With a special NCC entry to join
the armed forces.
The main benefit of NCC apart from personality and skill development is the
Certificate that you get. It is not only beneficial for defence forces but it also
provides you with an upper hand in most of the Government exams. For the CDS
exam conducted by UPSC, there is a reservation accorded to NCC 'C' certificate
holders.

BENEFITS OF NCC
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a voluntary youth developmentorganisation. It has enormous potential for nation building.
NCC provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their all-rounddevelopment with a sense of Duty, Commitment, Dedication, Discipline andMoral Values so that they become able leaders and useful citizens oftomorrow. The 5 aims of NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time andcontinue to meet the requirements expected of It in the current socio—economic scenario of the country. NCC aims at developing character,comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook and spirit.
National Cadet Corps was Introduced in the year 1970 in Deshbandhu
College and since then it has brought glory to College's name. NCC is one of
the most active student group of the college. The College has Senior Division
(SD) and Senior Wing (SW). Deshbandhu College's Senior Division comes
under 4 Delhi Battalion, Okhla, Commanded by Commanding Officer Col.
A.B Hangal and the Senior Wing comes under 4 Delhi Girls Battalion,
Safdarjung Enclave, commanded by Commanding Officer Col. Virender

•There are a total of 32 seats which are set aside for cadets who hold NCC
Certificate, provided they have scored 50% in graduation with at least a 'B’
grade in 'C' level examination. If all this suffices, then they are eligible for
SSB without even qualifying for a CDS written exam. All they have to do is to
clear the SSB selection process.
•Other than the armed forces cadets also get a preference over other
applicants In CRPF and BSE
•Other than defence services there are several central and state Government
organizations who give a preference to NCC cadets.

The basic requirement for ALC (Advance leadership camp) is BLC (Basic
leadership camp) where you can learn a lot of leadership skills which will
help you a lot during your SSB or any other interviews for job. Then after
that you should qualify for ALC. If you perform well in ALC you can get a
chance to attend IMA or OTA camp, where you will get a wonderful chance
of staying and learning with the Gentlemen Cadets. Six Advance
Leadership Camps(ALC), are conducted every year, which a total of 1350
cadets attend to focus on personality development, leadership skills and
orientation for induction into Armed Forces.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE:Considering the manifold benefits of trees,including that they release oxygen into theair, absorb unpleasant odour as well as harmfulgases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxideand sulfur dioxide from the air and purifyit, protect us from dangerous ultra-violet rays,provide us with food and the pivotal role is playedby trees in preventing soil erosion, maintainingecological balance and most especially inreducing / minimize the effects of global warming.
SWACCHTA PAKHWADA:
Swachhta Pakhwada started in April 2016 withthe objective of bringing a fortnight of intensefocus on the issues and practices of Swachhtaby engaging GOI Ministries/Departments intheir jurisdictions. An annual calendar is precirculated among the Ministries to help themplan for the Pakhwada activities.
VIGILANCE AWARENESS
WEEK:
Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) is beingcelebrated every year since 31 OCT 1999 andcoincides with the birthday of SardarVallabhbhai Patel, known to be a man of highintegrity. In pursuit of the vision of theGovernment of India to make a New India bythe year 2022, which is the 75th anniversaryof our independence, the Central VigilanceCommission, as the apex integrity institution ofthe country, endeavors to promote integrity,transparency and accountability in public life.
EXERCISE NCC YOGDAN:
National Cadet Corps (NCC) has offered ahelping hand to civilian authorities in thecountry’s fight against COVID-19 by extendingthe services of cadets under ‘Exercise NCCYogdan’. It has issued guidelines fortemporary employment of its cadets toaugment relief efforts and functioning ofvarious agencies involved in battling thepandemic.
BLOOD DONATION:
Cadets of Deshbandhu College NCC contributetowards the society by donating blood every year.Cadets voluntarily participate in organizing blooddonation camps and help the needy people.
INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY:
International Yoga Day celebrated annually on21st June since 2015 , following it’s inception inthe United Nation General Assembly in 2014. Yogais a physical, mental and spiritual practice whichoriginated in India.
TRAFFIC POLLUTION MANAGEMENT
RALLY:
In Support of World Environment Day
Deshbandhu NCC organized mass awareness
rally and cleanliness campaign. During this
event the cadets of Deshbandhu NCC held an
awareness rally, telling people the side effects
of air pollution and the method to eradicate it.
WATER CONSERVATION
RALLY:Water Conservation Day was celebrated by
NCC cadets by conducting a rally on the
occasion of WORLD WATER DAY. The
cadets educated the residents about the
importance of 'water conservation' and also
asked them to make their family members &
neighbours aware of the cause. Various
banners like 'Jal hai to kal hai', 'Jal hi Jeevan
hai' etc. were carried to make one & all aware
about the importance of water in our lives.
STATUE CLEANING:Cadets of Deshbandhu College NCC
undertook a nationwide drive to clean statues
of prominent personalities and spread
awareness about imminent people. Cadets
every year undertake the noble task of
cleaning statues of national importance.
Cadets make sure the statues are washed
properly. Not only the statues but all history
plates below each statue were also cleaned
very meticulously. Cadets spread the
message of "Swachh Bharat".
SELF-DEFENCE
WORKSHOP:Self-defence workshop is conducted every
year for girls. The training was conducted to
boost the self confidence of the girls and to
make them able to act in unfavorable
situations. This year it was conducted online
due to covid. The safety of the girl child
should be given maximum priority and hence
the workshop was seen as a boon to the girls
who often have to travel away from their
homes for studies and work.
YAMUNA CLEANING DRIVE:
A campaign SWACHH YAMUNA ABHIYAN
was conducted on 9th and 10th of April. Many
cadets volunteered themselves and
contributed their efforts in order to clean river
Yamuna. There was a 5 km walk where all the
volunteers were accompanied by the team of
Kalash Padyatra on the roads of Delhi with
campaign banners.
KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS:
Kargil Vijay Diwas named after the successful
Operation Vijay is celebrated on 26th July
every year. On this day in 1999 India
successfully took command of the high
outposts in Kargil district of J&K which has
been lost to Pakistan. Kargil Vijay Diwas is
celebrated every year on 26th July
Deshbandhu NCC organized guest lecture, to
remember the supreme sacrifice of war
heroes.
LOGO MAKING COMPETITION:
The Gallantry Awards Portal serves as a
dynamic, interactive and participative platform
that aims to instil a sense of patriotism,
devotion and dedication among the
citizens.The portal facilitates the citizens to
give their foremost tributes to the valiant
Gallantry Award winners of the country by
making innovative logos.
"DESH" is our annual NCC Fest which comprises of a series of inter-
college competitions. The event is organized in the even semester of
college. "Desh" is open for all the cadets in Delhi University or any other
college in Delhi. It is a talked-about event amongst the cadets majorly due
to the cash prize and trophies given to the winners. The event is planned,
prepared, and executed by the cadets of Deshbandhu College NCC under
the guidance of our Principal, ANO, and Incharge. The event begins with
Flag Hoisting and an opening ceremony by the dignitaries of our college
followed by competitions, special performance by Deshbandhu College
N.C.C cadets, and is ended by a cultural program followed by a prize
distribution ceremony. The event is not only a great platform for cadets to
enhance their Squad Drill and Quarter Guard skills but also providesthem with a space to explore their caliber and learn new things.
