We appreciate all who come in to use library services and abide with the safety procedures in these challenging times. Thank you to the many donors who have sent in their generous Annual Giving gift. This year we are asking for help with COVID related expenses or for the exterior renovation project. The response has been incredible. If you would like to donate, please ask for an Annual Giving form at the Check Out Desk. Many thanks to all who joined us for our first virtual Literary Libations for a fun evening with author and food educator, Terry Walters, who provided tips on preparing healthy food. Great job done by the board members who arranged this wonderful event to support the library. October 27th is a very important day. It is the last day to register to vote for the November 3rd election. Our librarians can guide you through the various ways to do this, including providing a registration form that can be sent in the mail. Due to the pandemic, voters are eligible to vote by absentee ballot in Connecticut. Absentee ballot applications are being sent to every registered voter. They can be returned by mail or dropped off at City Hall. An absentee ballot will then be mailed to you. You can still vote at your usual election poll. Not voting is giving up your voice! —Pat Rutkowski, Director Words from Our Director Main: 20 High St. New Britain, CT 06051 Jefferson Branch: 140 Horse Plain Road www.nbpl.info 860-224-3155 Virtual Bingo: Halloween Edition Wed. Friends of the New Britain Public Library

Editor: Pat Rutkowski, Director Layout Design: Jason Villani

As we enter into the eighth month of restrictions we must all follow to protect ourselves and others from Covid-19, the Friends continue to try to find safe ways to support our library. In September, we held a pop-up mini sale on the library's front lawn and were very happy to see so many familiar faces after such a long time. On Saturday, October 3, from 10 am to 2 pm, we will have another mini sale, this time in the library parking lot, featuring only adult fiction, children's

books and DVDs, everything priced at $2.00 or less. Payment by cash only, and masks and social distancing are required. Rain date for the mini sale is Saturday, October 10.

Sadly, we are still unable to accept donations of books and other materials and the Every Day Book Sale remains closed until it is safe to reopen. Friends membership renewals will be mailed out in early November, and forms for new members will also be available at the library.

News from The Hive Update

As the Hive moves closer to launching, the committee is delighted to announce our logo designed by the library’s own Mahogany Rich. Mahogany is a Graphic Design major at Tunxis Community College and has

been working as our Library Aide since 2019. She was excited to sketch up some designs (using the New Britain bee as inspiration) for the committee which eventually became the Hive logo you see here.
