2 INTRODUCTION This Bushfire Management Statement (BMS) has been prepared to enable the Newbury Buddhist Monastery to respond to the requirements of Clause 44.06 Bushfire Management Overlay (known from this point on as Clause 44.06), and associated Clause 53.02 Bushfire Protection: Planning Requirements (known from this point on as Clause 53.02) for the installation of new buildings to be used for accommodation and meditation at 107 Beaches Lane, Newbury.
3 METHODOLOGY The BMS is in two parts

Part 2 A Bushfire Management Statement describing how the proposed development responds to the requirements in Clause 53.02 and 44.06.

5 LOCATION
The site is located in the farming area of Newbury (See Figure 2) approximately 7 kilometres south of Trentham. There are areas of forest to the north west, east and south west of the site.
The site could be vulnerable to runs of fire from the north west and then south west following a wind change, which often occurs on high fire risk days in summer. This is described in further detail in the Bushfire Hazard Landscape Assessment

There are older buildings are in the south western part of the site close to Beaches Lane. These include accommodation blocks (photo 1) sheds (photo 4). There are more recently constructed buildings in the north eastern and central parts of the site (photos 2 and 3). There are large tanks in the north east area (photo 5).
Site topography The site is dominated by a south west sloping ridge line. To the south east of the ridge there are overall downslopes of 5 to 10 degrees and 0 to 5 degree slopes to the west.
Vegetation The site is mostly covered in grassland (photo 6, 8 and 9) with managed gardens around existing buildings. There is forest in the northern and southern parts (Photo 7)
