4. July Sorting materials in to groups

Class Activity :- Sorting material based on given properties – texture appearance, hardness, solubility, floatation, transparency, conduction of heat and electricity, magnetic property etc. Field trip :- A visit to the grocery shop, chemist shop, school library etc to show the importance of sorting things into different groups

5. July Separation of substances

Class Activity :- various mixtures are made in the class and different groups of children are asked to separate the mixture. * Winnowing using roasted peanuts, chana etc. Lab Activity :- To show techniques like hand picking, sieving, filtration, sedimentation and decantation. * To show difference between the miscible and immiscible liquids by using mixtures of oil and water, milk and water etc

6. July Changes around us

Class Activity :- * Paste your photograph from the time you were 1 year old to date and write 2 changes you noticed each year in yourself. * Making of boat, aeroplane from the same sheet of paper by folding. Home observation :- * making of a salt solution –a saturated salt solution. * Observe the inflated balloon kept in refrigerator. Lab Activity :- Experiments showing reversible and irreversible changes. E-learning :- Showing modules of physical and chemical changes.

7. 28 August Living and Non living things

Field trip :- Visit to central agricultural research institute or a fish / poultry farm to observe growth patterns. Lab Activity :- * Lime water test to show that exhaled air

8 August Getting to know plants

Field trip :- Visit to a garden to show the different and diverse form of plants and enable them to identify herbs, shrubs, trees , climbers, creepers etc. Lab Activity :- Cutting of balsam and dipping in coloured water to explain conduction of water. Class Activity :- Different leaves are put on the table and students identity the venation patterns in them. Project :- Making of herbarium of five different types of medicinal plants and discuss their medicinal value. E – learning :- showing various modifications of stem, root and leaves.

9 August Body movements Class Activity :- Collect pictures of five vertebrates and five invertebrates and paste them in your note book. * Observing x-ray sheet of different parts of human skeleton Home observation :- Feeling of own body to understand muscle movement. Lab Activity :- Human skeletal system shown to explain the different parts, joints etc.

10 August Living organisms and their Surroundings

Class Activity:- Paste / draw pictures of animals of different habitats Field trip :- A trip to zoo / Aquarium Group discussion :- Discuss habitats of different animals and their adaptations.

Lab activity :- Activities showing passage of light through transparent and translucent objects and how opaque objects block light. Project :-Make a pinhole camera.

14. November Electricity and circuits

Class Activity :- Making of lemon / vinegar battery in class * Making different combinations of electric circuit using battery, switch, conductors, insulators and bulb to see in which all cases the circuit is complete and bulb glows. Lab Activity :- * Showing and electric switch to explain how it works. *Working model of a torch. Field trip :- Electric supply unit / school transformer. Home Observation :- Observe the electric bell (under parental guidance) E – Learning :- Power point on safety rules while working on an electrical appliance

15. 15 December Magnetism Class Activity :- * Various shapes of magnets are shown to the students. * Activity showing magnetic force is maximum at poles using iron fillings. * making of temporary magnets – single touch and double touch

January Air Around Us Class activity :- Draw different layers of atmosphere. * Conducting experiments based on application of air pressure. * Making of posters to create awareness about air pollution. Lab Activity :- Experiments to show the presence of exygen using candle, glass and trough with water which explain why does the level of water rises in the glass. Project :- prepare a wind vane. E-Learning :- Film documentaries can be shown on pollution of air.

18. 20 February Garbage In, Garbage Out

Field trip :- Visit to a super market to check on brands which use packaging materials which can be recycled. * A recycling plant to see how waste is recycled. Class activity :- Making of green and blue dust bins for the class for disposing biodegradable and non biodegradable waste. *Best out of waste by the students in the class. *Making poster – Give waste another chance. *Hand on experience of making compost from biodegradable substances in school. Project :- Making a list of materials of daily use which can be reused at home itself.

1. April 24 Nutrition in plants

Field trip :- A trip to kitchen garden / school garden / farm / nursery to observe various categories of plants. Laboratory:- * To show permanent slides of stomata. * To show sun light is necessary for photosynthesis. * Only green plants can photosynthesize. Lab / Class:- To show variegated leaves, cuscuta . Home observation: - Compare a small green plant like tomato or tulsi with pitcher plant and a dodder plant. Diagrammatic representation :-Flow chart to show various types of nutrition in plants. E- learning:- Showing students various categories of plants.

2. April Nutrition in animals

Field trip :- Visit a doctor and find out under what conditions a patient requires a drip of glucose. Laboratory:- * To observe permanent slides of paramecium / amoeba / hydra. * To test the action of saliva on starch. Lab / Class: - To show student model of human digestive systems and various organs involved in it. Home observation :- * Collect the information and compile importance of vitamins in diet / fruits and vegetables should we eat to get vitamins. * To show students model of permanent set of teeth of humans. Diagrammatic representation :- * Draw a flow chart to show the organ involved in human digestive system including their function / role in digestion. E- learning :- Showing students various categories of animals and their feeding habits.

3. May – June

Fibre to Fabric

Field Trip :- Visit a textile shop, collect pieces of clothes of various types and paste them in scrap book with details for kind of fibre, origin (animal / plant). Laboratory:- * Burn test of various fibres * To test the tensile strength of fibre and absorbency of different fabrics. Lab / Class: - *To make tie and dye pattern on a piece of cloth. * To show chart of life cycle of silk moth.

4. July 28 Heat and its effects

Field Trip :- Visit any veterinary doctor discuss and find out the normal body temperature of domestic animals and birds . Laboratory:- * To demonstrate thermal expansion in solids / liquids / gases * To show that heat travels through solids by conductions and through liquids by convection. Lab / Class: - * To find temperature of hot water. Home observation:- * Experience that a black body absorbs and emits heat better than a white body. Diagrammatic representation: - * Draw a flow chart to show the various forms of heat transfer and its affects.. E- learning :- Showing students various modes of heat transfer (pictures and diagrams with elaboration on sea and land breeze).

5. July Acids, bases and salts

Field Trip :- Bring the soil sample of your area find out if it is acidic, basic or neutral. Discuss with farmers if they treat the soil in any manner. Laboratory:- * To show various acids, bases or salts * To show indicators and their action e.g. litmus, phenolphthalein and methyl orange. * To study neutralisation reaction Lab / Class: - * To determine the nature of the given solution (acidic, basic or neutral) using china rose indicator Home observation:- * Observe the change from milk to curd. * Observe change in turmeric water mixed with lemon juice, vinegar, curd, sugar solution Diagrammatic representation: - * Flow chart to show categories of acids / bases with examples. Field Trip :- Visit a chemistry laboratory and try to find out different types of physical and chemical changes. Laboratory:- * Chemical reaction between copper sulphate and iron nail * To show that burning of magnesium metal is a chemical change. * To prepare crystals of copper sulphate by process of crystallisation Lab / Class: - * Displacement reaction Home observation:- * Observe change in colour in browning of apple, brinjal or potato . Diagrammatic representation: - * Chemical equations related to decomposition, displacement, double displacement, rusting. E- learning :- Showing various capsules related to chemical reactions in our daily life.

7. August 28 Weather , climate and adaptations of animals to climate

Field Trip :- Visit any lake / wetland area / bird sanctuary. Observe the birds carefully through a pair of binoculars. Laboratory:- * To show maximum and minimum thermometer, hygrometer, rain gauge Lab / Class: - * Paste pictures of animals living in polar region and desert region and compare their adaptation. Home observation:- * From a weather report in a daily newspaper note down the maximum and minimum temperature, humidity. Plot graph for the changes during this period. Diagrammatic representation: - * Draw flow chart to show adaptive features of animals living in different regions(polar / desert / tropical) E- learning :- Various study capsules related to change in adaptation of animals due to change in weather of a place.

8. August Wind storms and cyclones

Field Trip :- Visit to Met department. Laboratory:- *To prove that air exerts pressure. *To show that air expands on heating and contracts on cooling Lab / Class: - *High speed winds are accompanied by reduced air pressure. Home observation:- Interact with parents and ask them about

23 Light Field trip :-Visit to science centre to see distorted and funny images in mirrors, find out kinds of mirror used there. Laboratory:- *To observe concave , convex lens, plane mirrors and the images formed by them. * To show light gets reflected from plane mirror. * To show that white light consists of seven colours. Lab / Class: - * To study nature of images formed by smooth curved surfaces. * To study the converging action of convex lens and diverging action of concave lens. Home observation:- * Make a newton’s disc to show that seven colours combine to form white light. Home observation:- * Collect information about climate change at any two places in the world correlate it with deforestation, compile your findings and prepare a report. Field Trip :- Survey a locality make a note of all the open drains and manholes find out if these open drains are treated with disinfectants. Lab / Class: - * Class discussion-- Health hazards due to open drains and stagnant waters. * Adopting good sanitation practices should be our way of life. Home observation:- * Trace and inspect the flow of waste water in and around your home. Find the problems caused by open drains leaking pipes or stagnant waters.
