Maneuver Pins

Page 57: Navigation Guide,2003 CTS Entertainment and Navigation ... · The 2003 CTS Entertainment and Navigation System Supplement

2-35

Maneuver pins are red “stick pin” icons on the map thatindicate changes in the road or special action that mustbe taken by the driver to remain on the currentlytraveled road. For example, the road may have a sharpcurve in it. The curve would not qualify as an officialturn on the planned route. However, the driver must beaware of the curve so that he or she can stay on theplanned route. Maneuver pins are always displayedalong a planned route, but voice prompts and screenpopups will only be given if these features are turned on.

As you are traveling, the current road is shown at thebottom center of the map screen. In addition in the uppercenter of the map screen will be the next maneuver.Anytime while on the route, you can press the NAV(navigation) Repeat button to get an audio prompt ofyour next maneuver.

Once your vehicle is near your destination, the systemwill say “You’ve arrived at your destination, endingroute guidance.” This message is dependent upon thespeed of your vehicle, not upon the distance of yourvehicle from the destination. Traveling at a higher rateof speed may cause this message to play sooner than ifyou are traveling at a slower rate of speed.

Back: This button always returns you to the previous screen.

Traveling Across RegionsIf you want to plan a route that will take you from oneregion to another, you must remember that all roads stopat the borders of a region. See “Regional Maps” in theIndex for more information. In order to plan a route thatwill take you across regions, you must use one of thefollowing methods:

Plan a route through a region and follow it until youreach the end of that region. At that time, you mustload the next regional CD. Repeat this procedureuntil you reach your final destination.

Use the tenth CD, which only lists major highwaysand city centers, to plan a route to one of the citieson the CD. Once you have reached the region ofyour destination, remove the tenth disc and insert theCD for that region. If you will travel through morethan one region, you must repeat the first procedureand load the various regional discs as required.

Thewaypoint(s) will be in maroon and from the waypoint(s)to the final destination will be blue. Once you havearrived at your final waypoint(s), the route to yourdestination will change to blue.

Different colors are also used to distinguish betweeninterstate freeways, state highways, county roads, majorstreets and secondary streets. Highways will be shownas a thicker line than a general street will.

Global Positioning System (GPS)The Navigation System determines the position of yourvehicle by using satellite signals, various vehicle signalsand map data from the map CD.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) locates thecurrent position of your vehicle using signals sent by theUnited States Department of Defense GPS satellites.GPS will appear green on the screen if the satellitesignal is received. GPS will be gray if no signal is beingreceived. See “Symbols” listed previously in this sectionfor more information.

At times, other interferences such as the satellitecondition, road configuration, the condition of thevehicle and/or other circumstances can interfere with the system’s ability to determine the accurate position of the vehicle.

The system may not be available or interference mayoccur if any of the following are true:

Signals are obstructed by tall buildings, large trucksor a tunnel.

Metallic objects are located on the dashboard.

Satellites are being repaired or improved.

After-market glass tinting has been applied to thevehicle’s windshield.

Do not apply after-market glass tinting to the vehicle’swindshield or place metallic objects on the vehicle’sdashboard. Glass tinting and metallic objects willinterfere with the system’s ability to receive GPS signalsand may cause the system to malfunction.

If you are experiencing a problem, see “VehiclePositioning” and “Problems with Route Guidance”following for more information.

Page 59: Navigation Guide,2003 CTS Entertainment and Navigation ... · The 2003 CTS Entertainment and Navigation System Supplement

2-37

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicle on the map may beinaccurate due to one or more of the following reasons:

 The road system has changed.

The vehicle is traveling on slippery road surfacessuch as sand, gravel and/or snow.

The vehicle is being driven on winding roads.

The vehicle is being driven on a long straight road.

The vehicle is approaching a tall building or a large vehicle.

Problems with Route GuidanceInappropriate route guidance may occur under one ofthe following conditions:

When the vehicle did not turn onto the road indicatedby the system,

when route guidance is not available for the nextright or left turn,

when the route may not be changed during automaticrerouting,

when there is no route guidance because of a turn atan intersection,

when plural names of places are displayed,

when a delay in automatic rerouting occurs becauseof high speed driving,

when automatic rerouting displays a route returningto a set waypoint which was missed originally,

when the route prohibits the entry of a vehicle due toa regulation by time or season or any otherregulation which may be given,

when a route cannot be found, or

when the route to the destination is not shownbecause of recently changed or unlisted roads on the CD.

If the System Needs ServiceIf you are still experiencing difficulty with yourNavigation System and have read the information listedhere, see your dealer for assistance.

Database Coverage ExplanationsCoverage areas within the United States vary withrespect to the level of map detail available for any givenarea. Some areas will feature greater levels of detail thanothers. If this happens, it does not mean there is aproblem with the system. As regional map CDs areupdated, more detail may become available for areaswhich previously had limited detail.

For more detailed information on database coverage, visit the Cadillac website at www.cadillac.com.
