Keeping home cool in summer is necessary to everyone. We are in a situation where you can’t survive in this hot weather conditions without air conditioners. Keeping our house cool with air conditioners is much cost and not good for environment. 

It is not good for health, to breathe dry and recycled air pushed by the air conditioners is health hazardous. By following some natural tips you can keep your home cool. These are cost effective, environment friendly and healthy.

If sun light enters into house, that increases the heat in your home.  30 to 40 percent of heat comes from open windows. Close windows during day time which gets direct sunlight into home. 

The south and west sides of home will generally be the hottest so we need to set up awnings or shelter on south and west facing windows to reduce heat gain. Light colored fabric reflects the sun, so use them as curtains for windows and doors.

Open the Windows at Night

Open all the windows in the evenings. Cool air blows in the evening time.  Keep windows open so that hot air in home blows away and cool air reduces room temperature.

Turn off All Heat Sources

Turn off lamps, computers, TV and other heat generating electronic sources when you are not using them. Because these generate a lot of heat. Use compact fluorescent and LED bulbs. 

They consume less power and run much cooler. Make your laundry, ironing and food preparation in cooler parts of the day.

Velvet, silk fabrics are beautiful .These can feel a bit heavy for the summer months. It’s better to bring up to date your pillows with respect to various seasons. Use light colored Breezy fabrics like linen and printed cotton pillows and bed sheets.

In winter season run an electric fan in clockwise direction, it forces the hot air downward.
