TraditionalSamplingObservationalmethods(Altmann,1974;Martin&Bateson,2007)

Ethogram– adetailedcatalogueofbehaviors,usuallymutuallyexclusiveandasobjectiveaspossible.Ideally,itshouldbeabletoinstructtwodifferentpeopletorecordthesamebehaviorsthesameway

Typesofsampling:

- Alloccurrence

- 1/0sampling

- Instantaneousscansampling

Mostlyuseintuitiontodecideuponsampling,timescales,durations.

Goals:

Describestructureinmonkeymovement

- Relatepatternattributestofunction◦ behavioralstate,terrain,individual characteristics(age,health,rank,etc.)

- Informfuturemeasurementandsampling
