The National Service Scheme is a government-sponsored public service program conducted by
the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The NSS unit of Lakshmibai college comprises of a
team of enthusiastic students that enjoy social work and as sensitive humans consider it their
responsibility to bring about necessary changes in the society, to the best of their capabilities. To
be the change we wish to see in the world is certainly possible and the volunteers of this unit
make immense efforts to do the same. The unit has different projects and volunteers with their
own rational will, work selflessly towards the betterment of their respective choice of projects.
Red Dot Project, Saksham, Samarpan, Shiksha Cell, Umang, Urvar, Technical wing and
Editorial wing, are the broad projects that have their own importance and uniquenesses.
RED DOT PROJECT -
It is one such project that in itself reflects the motto "Not me but you" of the National service
scheme. Here, students produce low cost sanitary napkins within the college premises in the most
hygienic, affordable, efficient way possible and later distribute the manufactured napkins to the
underprivileged women in Wazirpur which is the adopted village of this unit. When the Red Dot
Project was established, it gathered a lot of appreciation from different media agencies, which
uplifted the spirits of NSS volunteers, thus they consistently work hard to push the bars further
high.
SAKSHAM -
The driving force behind project Saksham is the need and importance of inculcating creativity,
confidence and a strong personality amongst students that fail to afford quality education and
exposure. Volunteers of this project frequently visit different government schools and organize
various activities that promote both the physical and mental growth in children. Improving the
younger generation is definitely the most ideal way of developing India and the NSS unit has
begun the wave of change.
SAMARPAN -
The art of selfless service and warmth is witnessed in the project Samarpan. Volunteers promptly
and enthusiastically help their fellow college mates that are specially - abled by composing
assignments, notes and other requirements that improve their studies and enable them to do
extensively better both in academics and extra-curricular activities. Lending a hand is simply the
most subtle form of social work and the unit believes in this very fervently.
SHIKSHA CELL-
Volunteers of Shiksha cell are deeply committed to social service and this is very evidently
reflected in the project itself. These volunteers visit the adopted slum Wazirpur every weekend to
teach the underprivileged children thereby enhancing their grasping capacity and improving their
learning techniques. They are committed to bring about revolution and have oiled the spark of
learning amongst the underprivileged children of the slum and soon it is sure to spread like
wildfire.
UMANG -
Umang is one of the most powerful projects that is in it's most effect under the NSS unit of
Lakshmibai college. A team of vocal and powerful actors perform impactful plays (Nukkad
Natak) on social subjects to bring remarkable changes in the mind-set and approach towards life
of different people across the city. Actions speak louder than words and the volunteers here pitch
eye opening plays that leave the audience with goose bumps and heart-melting emotions that
certainly deep down alters their way of living in some way or the other.
URVAR -
Hard work, Creativity, Warmth, Dedication, theatre, art, you name it and the unit has room for
everything in it. Urvar has in it, volunteers that create art and symbolize social work. It isn't easy
to craft materialistic items without polluting the environment in any manner. But the volunteers
in urvar are artists that curate posters and different materialistic items that are required during
campaigns and rallies in the most efficient way possible. They ensure to reduce the amount of
wastage as much as possible and most likely use, re-usable and recyclable materials for the same.
Besides these projects the unit consistently organizes different campaigns and rallies very often
to address the different needs during odd hours. From cleanliness drive, donation drives, Traffic
awareness to Blood donation camps and many other different subjects, the unit creatively
organizes various activities that bring about basic changes in the mind-set and approach of the
colleagues. These are subtle changes but at least they are "Changes".
Subsequently, The NSS Unit of Lakshmibai college feels immensely proud to have had
volunteers represent not just the unit but also the college and even the state at different
competent events and competitions . Varsha Pathak was selected for the National Integration
Camp 2018, Riya Kumari was selected for Republic Day Parade Camp 2019 and Tanushree
Mishra was selected for the National Integration Camp 2019. Tejashwi Sinha and Kulsum Jahan

Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in the honour of the 48- member Youth
