National data collection programme developed in relation with the Council Regulation (EC) No 199/2008.The task is to maintain communications and data collation gathered from different sources for transmission to the Commission and other specified parties, to promote co-ordination and harmonization of scientific data collection, to collate cost and administrative information from the different Bulgarian institutions involved in the Programme and to ensure that activities are being effectively carried out within the different Bulgarian organizations.PartnersMinistry of Agriculture and FoodBulgarian Academy of Sciences Institute of Oceanology

Database structureAll data collected by the information system includes GT, KW, catch data, days at sea, type of nets, landings and other transversal variables. All the data comes from VMS, logbooks, first sale notes, buyers notes and transport declaration.

Economic VariablesThe data for Economic, transversal, technical and biological variables, was provided by two sources. The first source is the Logbooks, Sales notes and FVR, all of these data are based in the NAFA information system. The second source of information (economic variables) is the questionnaires collected by NAFA staff under the national data collection programme.

Aquaculture and Processing sectorThe information is collected through questionnaires for economic statistics. For the years 2011 – 2012 the questionnaires are prepared including all the variables and the data is aggregated.

Aquaculture is one of the most important sub-sectors in the country for several reasons. First, Bulgaria has traditions in the field of aquaculture and the presence of a suitable water resources for development of farms. Aquaculture includes both cold-water species (eg trout) and warm temperature species (eg carp, sturgeon, etc.).. Today and for future, containment farms would still find better prospects.

Recreational FisheriesAccording the Bulgarian legislation recreational fisheries in Black sea does not require special license and is limited only with the use of forbidden fishing gears.

Research survey at seaThe surveys carried out by Institute of Oceanology Bulgarian Academy of Sciences /IO BAS/ with research vessel “Academik. Vessel characteristics: Lengh – 55,5 m.; engine power – 736 kW; tonnage – 1225 t.; crew size – 22; operating costs per day 5 531,77 euro. Scientists who perform the surveys are d-r Panayotova and d-r Raikov.

Effects of fishing sector on marine ecosystemIn recent years anthropogenic pressure on the marine environment reaches high levels. The sea provides resources for many important economic sectors such as commercial fishing, research and exploitation of oil and gas exploration and shipping.
